I just don't get it.
Why the hatred by the right wingers?
Here is a woman who basically espouses almost all of the conservative ideals and lives them.
She cleaned up daytime TV almost singlehandedly by introducing a talk show that maintained a G7 rating. Before her, almost every new show was a Jerry Springer clone.
She Walks the walk when it comes to family values.. including fighting for 'at risk' kids and pushing adoptions of older children in need.
She has become a financial success through hard work and prudent choices.
She has publicly apologized for her misinformed one sided stance on handgun control.
So tell me... why the hate?
-
Though she has softened it up somewhat, I dislike her for her rabid anti-gun stance.
-
I dislike her because she is Gay and anti gun.
Sorry but you asked.
-
MT
Do you have a link for this "She has publicly apologized for her misinformed one sided stance on handgun control."
That was my main reason for not liking here. I saw her show when she ambushed Tom Seleck on guns and he walked of the set. She came of as a total *****.
-
I never paid much attention to her until her interview with Tom Selleck. At that point I found out on ignorant, selfish, and close-minded she was. If you watch that interview, you'll see she was out looking for a fight. Ironic too, since she uses armed body guards, but hey, thats okay for a Limosine liberal! Its not okay for YOU though...

I saw it too. It was right after the Columbine killings. I saw here apologize to Mr. Seleck on her show, and later say she was wrong on gun conmtrol during her interview with Bill O'Reilly.

personal attacks are bad.

Big hugs
-
I bet much of the hate for her is because she is unatracive and loud mouthed! lol.
Interesting. MT do you think she changed her mind for real, or changed her mind because she got so much flack for her stance that it was hurting her show or rep?
-
I nevar had a problem with two ton rosie. Liked her actually, then she mouthed off in a bad way about me and my guns and I havent payed any attention to her since then.
Does she still have a talk show?
-
She made a lifetimes worth of money in 6 years on her show, her change of heart was not economically driven.
I think she is a person who wears her feelings on her sleeve, and probably acts out of emotion as often as insight. This is what brought her fame, and it is what developed her anti-gun stance. She canceled her show the day after Columbine. She broke down in tears the next day. I am pretty certain it wasn't an act. I think she often spoke without thinking and this is the result. By and large however, she is a very good person. She doesn't deserve the hate.
And BTW, if you hate her because she's gay.. that makes you a bigot. Just so ya know.

I never saw this, probably would have a different opinion of her...but, she politicizes everything she does. I prefer someone who is in the entertainment business to entertain. If you want to become a politician, then run for office.
-
I would like to say I had disdain for her.
I never hated her. I can say I hate no one, other then MAYBE OBL.
Hate is a horible thing to have in your life. I know. I did not hate just anyone, I hated my dad, It was a burning living thing, luckly for me, it did notlast long, and we worked things out.
I am not sure some people here really know what hate is.
-
no real hatered for her from me, she just gets on my nerves, if I was going to siit down and listen to what someone had to say, she would be near the bottom of the list of people I'd want to be talking.
btw- I do have to agree with you about her cleaning up daytime tv. I saw her show a coulpe times and it's one of the only daytime shows on free-tv that I'd let my kids watch. also it seemed like many of the other shows cleaned up somewhat after she was on.
-
LOL a freekin lesbian a real roll model for kids:rofl

I find her annoying and unfunny. No real hatred, just sick of her exerting her existance on media culture(oxymoron?).
-
I seen her attack sellec on a clip... I disslike her for that I have no idea what her current views are but at the time she had ARMED bodyguards. I don't know how you would respect someone so hypocritical and condencending.
lazs

She's a kook. She called the gay people getting married in San Francisco "Law abiding citizens."
I could go on with the things she said.. I think we've all heard them.

"This is unbelievable. I am outraged and beside myself. This is a travesty. Shame on the federal government." — Stewart's friend Rosie O' Donnell, in a statement issued through her publicist.
Rosie is like a dog that won't let go of its toy. At first it is sort of entertaining, in the end she ends up being annoying and you want to smack it on the head.
-
LOL a freekin lesbian a real roll model for kids
I don't aprove of her sex life (not that it's any of my bussiness), and wouldn't hold it up as an ok example for my kids. but she doesn't make an issue of it on the show (does she even still have a show?) and everything considered I'd rather have my kids watch her than springer.
-
The problem with Rosie is that she's rude. You don't invite someone on your daytime tv show for a friendly interview, then turn around and attack them for something they aren't (Rosie kept trying to cast Tom as a spokesman for the NRA, which he kept saying he wasn't - he was just a regular ol' member). Tom did the right thing by leaving. Rosie's behavior was uncalled for and Tom did the right thing by not even dignifying her with a fight.
I thought she was annoying when she did the emcee job on the cable tv Friday night comedy shows (I think it was HBO or Cinemax). Then she went to MTV and later to motion pictures as, ta-da, the loud-mouth obnoxious fat friend of Madonna.
-
I looked for info about this show, and the transcript I found doesn't mention Tom Selleck leaving in the middle of the interview. Is this the same one y'all are talking about?

Chair
Thats it, but that one ends a bit different. He did for sure walk out and I remeber it being much more abrubtly.
-
I don't hate her. I reserve that emotion for times when it's important.
But, after she went into her Washington DC anti-gun rant while be protected by armed guards I totally lost any interest in anything she does or says.

Overall, I was impressed with her in the Bill O'Reilly interview last year.
Yes, she's done a lot of good and strikes me as a decent person.
But there's also a fair amount I disagree with her on. And in today's society, if you kindly disagree, that gets blown out of proportion into "why do people who share the same views as me not see things her way"
-
Didn't someone on the BB once say let's send her to Canada.
One mad cow for one mad cow.......I second the motion.
-
Reasons for not liking her...
- saying that we should stop teaching math in schools because we have calculators (hell, that would stop most advanced research)
- she arrogant, obnoxious and loud (vs the marginally acceptable person on her show)
- she's hypocritical (the gun issue as others mentioned)
- doesn't have restraint (she claimed her gun position was 'uninformed', that means she was ignorant)
- she's a lesbian (I don't care if it's not PC...nature doesn't let gays marry, care for young, or propogate)
- she acts rather self-important just because she's a celebrity (a little humility would be nice since it is the people who made her a celebrity)
There. MT if you wish to call me a bigot because I don't like her since she's a lesbian. Then I will be considered a bigot by you.
OTOH, if you to consider me a small shrubbery because I don't like her since she's a lesbian, then I will be considered a small shrubbery by you. Either way, it doesn't matter.
She will still be a lesbian, I will not accept homosexuals as I do heterosexuals and you will consider me whatever you will consider me. Nothing will change.

To say 'almost singlehandedly' is a bit disingenuous.
You give her too much credit. Oprah carried much more weight (sorry for the pun) than Rosie did for this IMO.

OMG we agree now thats weird

Drunky, you will probably not like me either....because deep inside, I'm a lesbian too. (smells like fish, tastes like chicken!)

I like Rosie and feel sorry for her regarding her childhood.
The gay thing is still wrong...like her, dislike the lifestyle.

I will give an extreme example for my thoughts:
Just because enough people are vocal that having sex with children is 'normal' and they deserve rights, marry children, etc ad naseum, then I guess everyone else will just kowtow since it's the PC thing to do. Never mind that a line has been crossed.
I would imagine that thirty years ago everyone would think of homosexuals marrying as far fetched as my extreme example above.
Call me a bigot. If that is what will happen for standing up for my beliefs then so be it. Ostracize me as a bigot if that makes you feel correct.
P.S. Don't bring in the race issue (well, fifty years ago no one would have thought blacks would be treated equal).
Nature doesn't have a problem with humans of different colors or races. Nature does have problems with homosexuals.

True, but you obviously forget the "old" Oprah. She was the queen of the dirt slingers. That was how she toppled Phil Donohue, and that was how she rose to the top. The good stuff came later. Mainly in response to Rosie.

Nature does have problems with homosexuals.
Evidence of homosexuality abounds in nature. If it's procreation that is your bugaboo, I guess you hate all those women who've had hysterectomies too.

And you really cant compare humans to penguins can you?
Although my ex mother in law does look like a penguin and..... oh well nuther story.
Humans have souls and rules of life that we should atleast make an attempt to live by.
And being Gay breaks every single one of those rules.
I'm not going to apologise for believing in the Bible and most of it's teachings.
But on the other hand I don't think gays should be descriminated against either.
But the whole marraige thing is a freeking joke and should never be allowed.

EVERY one of those rules? Killing? Gluttony?
Wait, which commandment in specific does it break? Because the only part of the Bible that really goes into this is Leviticus, and a bunch of THOSE rules seem to have been 'deactivated' by the church, including prohibition on shellfish, the requirement that you grow a beard, etc.

Ya might wanna read Romans.
Also ya might wanna read about the whos ,and whys, and wherefores, regarding the church rulings and the laws.
So far a genuine scientific reason has been found for many of those laws.

Of course, even a blind chicken stumbles across a piece of corn once in a while.
It's a guide book with some good data, plus a LOT of editorializing thrown in. It's essentially an ancient Almanac (SAFETY TIP: Some shellfish can have disease, so try and avoid it to stay safe!) that a bunch of people have killed others over, and to this day are trying to use as a club to knock everyone into submission.

WTF is this inane tripe??? I hope you are not basing your arguement on women with hysterectomies and a single homosexual pair of penguins.
No, I don't hate women with hysterectomies and I don't see these penguins redesigning someone apartment, filing for marriage, or telling society that they have to be accepted and anyone that disagrees is bigoted or simply just plain wrong.
First, it appears you are trying to be cute about women. It's just stupid, so please stop it.
Second, if you were to compare the number of 'partnered' homosexual penguins to the whole number of penguins it would be extremelyl insignificant. It wouldn't even be a stretch to consider it an extremely rare singularity.
Third, nature does have hiccups. There are miscarriages, stillbirths, SIDS, deformities, diseases, syndromes, et al. These are not what is typically considered normal, hence the name abnormalty.
These anomolies happen simply due to statistics. You produce enough penguins, then eventually you will have a gay penguin. Enough monkeys type on a typewriter, then you will have a Shakespearen work.
Lastly, I haven't heard any 'intelligent' reason that I have to accept homosexuality as 'normal'. Call it PC, be militant and tell me that I have to, argue about women with hysterectomies and partnered penguins...there just aren't enough compelling reasons.
Just because there are gay people who say that they deserve this and that doesn't make it right. And for society to kow tow to them is pathetically sad simply because they are afraid of upsetting people or being sued.

MT, you manage to address one of my reasons. How about the rest?
Or is being gay simply a buzz word/hot topic to be defended now that we are all being PC or sued these days?
What if I said that I don't like her because she is also fat? Am I bordering on the PC threshold?

"She has publicly apologized for her misinformed one sided stance on handgun control.
If this is true, then she just becomes another TV personality that I 'surf' past. I have no feelings about her (good or bad).

Can find no reference to the calculator quote.. maybe she was joking, she did work as a pretty successful stand-up comic for a while.
Go look up hypocritical. Saying "I was wrong" is not it.
She spoke about something she wasn't an expert on... gotcha.. the *****!
Acts self important... You never saw her show did you? Her success was due in large part to her awe at the celebreties she was interviewing. She was the ordinary person put into extraordinary circumstances. Self-important doesn't apply.
and you're still a shrubbery!

Was in the Houston Chronicle...I actually cut it out and taped it to my cubicle wall for others to see. This was about four or five years ago.

You are correct. In as much as saying, "I was wrong" is not it. Using armed guards while denouncing guns is it.
She spoke about something she wasn't an expert on... gotcha.. the *****!
I find this irreprehensible. If you find the backlash undesirable, then don't speak before you are well informed...especially if you are a celebrity. If you are a celebrity and spout off from the hip, expect to get ***** slapped from time to time for your ignorant remarks. What is it about that celebrities that they think that they have all the answers and that only theirs are correct anyways?
Acts self important... You never saw her show did you? Her success was due in large part to her awe at the celebreties she was interviewing. She was the ordinary person put into extraordinary circumstances. Self-important doesn't apply.
Yes it still does apply. I commented on her deamenor off camera as opposed to on camera. Hmmm. Just because Jeanine Garrafalo kisses a man in "The Truth About Cats and Dogs" doesn't make her heterosexual. It's her off stage/camera/film actions that define her. Case in point, Rosie in real life is not the 'charming' person you see on her show. Rossanne also comes to mind.
and you're still a shrubbery!
I don't mind that.
At least I can sleep at night, even as a shrubbery, knowing that I stand up for what I believe in and haven't rolled over and blindly, docilely, and obediently accepted whatever crap is pouring out of the media.
Realize that my values are not dictacted by the current societal menstral flow. Just because it's vogue to be gay doesn't make a) it right or b) that I will accept it.
Keep in mind, even if the whole world were to argue that white is black, gravity goes up, 1 + 2 = 4, and that Ryan Seacrest actually is talented...it still doesn't make it so.
I argue again...what if most of the world thought that sex with children was 'normal'? Would you just blindly give your sons and daughters up to the crowd or would you say, "No...this isn't right"?
-
Rosie is hard to look at. Harder to listen to, and harder yet to associate with.
More power to you if you find her appealing.
When I look at her, all I can think about is how long it will be before she'll fall asleep and how much inertia it will require to tip her into what she's been shoveling.

This is true for everyone, celebrities just have an outlet. Deep down inside everything thinks that what they say is right. Oddly enough, if they found out they were misinformed some choose to apologize to whomever they made the statement.
Celebrities have media outlets common people don't. They spout their opinions, and just like everyone else, believe they are the truth. If they find out they are wrong, some apologize.
