Here is an interesting site about the Bf-109 and Spitfire.  It includes a description of flying each.

And this site has transcripts of Mr. Quill's reports on various Mks of Spitfires, including the IX and XIV. Anybody who is interested in this data, click on the link below.  Jeffrey Quill was the chief test pilot through most of the Spitfires development, from proto-type through post-war.
