I am now debating cancelling my AH account when the next billing period comes around...
First, they insist on keeping that worthless excuse for a map nicknamed 'Pizza' in rotation. Even though the vast majority hate that map.
Then, they refuse to do anything about the collision model, and give you the same standard response 'net lag' when you ask anything about it.
Add the fact that they are spending all their time creating AH2 rather than fixing AH1... seems like you'd fix you xurrent product before moving on to the next... but it doesn't matter, AH2 will replace AH1 in 'two weeks'.
Now, they go and remove nighttime from the MA... why? Havn't seen a single explaination??? Other than HiTech's post saying he 'wanted to tsee the other side of the fence whine.'
Kinda gettin feed up with the way things work around here... figure I'll take my little $15 and go elsewhere, adn when I get there, be sure to tell them WHY I am there and not here... nothing like word of mouth advertising eh?

You, and by extension, all of us really have two choices: play the game as it is loaded, or quit. It is as simple as that. If you could find something more enjoyable to do with the time you would have otherwise committed to AH, then do it! I don't like all maps and often get frustrated, but then again, two days later there I am logging in for more.
Its up to you.
-
I guess you were'nt around when we got a update every 2-3 months, adding new planes, maps and features for almost, whats it been since this came out, almost 4 years.
as a matter of fact, i think the updates on AH2 run just about the same time cycle, maybe even quicker.
HT announced that development on AH would stop so he could concentrate on 2.
Never mind the fact there's nothing out there thats even Close to AH1
Stick around, make the investment in patience and you might be suprised shortly down the line

That there tells me you don't have any clue what you are talking about or what you are asking for.
I, for one, am very glad they are ignoring you're demands, and of those like you, to change the collision model.
-
In five years that I'm in AH I've never seen HTC let pass more than two months without arranging or fixing or adding something new.
Now they are working hard to AH2, that seems an answer to our requests in AH .
Lets them work, and show at least a bit of respect for their working, then will come the time for us to judge.

As my father used to say to me, You will either eat what's on your plate or you will starve to death...
You whines/gripes are done with as little taste as humanly posible.
People complain too much about what is wrong with this game and never look at what this game has that many/none of the other flight sim/games DO NOT HAVE...
I say good bye and good riddens to yet another whiner... If you are thinking about leaving due to those reasons you are better off not playing at all then to sit around and moan about it...
BUT... I am not HiTech. Big difference there. He cares about what you think. I do not.
As for those who look at this game just as a glass being half full rather than half empty. I you...
that is all

OK... so you are syaing a collision model that has one plane destroyed and the other receive NO damage is OK???
Explain the logic behind that if you please.
@Morpheus... I'm glad you don't care what I think, because I quite frankly could care less what you think. Your father was a smart man, my parents and grandparents told me the exact same thing.
Btw... I have went about 'complaining' the proper way in the past... by bringing it up as well as possible solutions to the problem through the proper channels. I just figured I'd try teh capitalist way as a final ditch (money talks).
And I do acknowledge what AH offers that others don't, but at that same time I have to acknowledge the problems associated. You have to weigh the pro with the cons.

Madman, give the MA a break for a while. Have you considered trying some of the many special events?
Scenerios, Snapshots, Squad Ops, and Saturdays the CAP event takes place. Currently it starts at 1730 (530 EST) in the SEA. You should come check it out. Special events may be the answer.
-
Madman, the current collision model is the best it can be with the possibillity of 400 people online in the same map.
If you don't like the collision model, then don't put yourself in a place to collide.
-
Then, they refuse to do anything about the collision model, and give you the same standard response 'net lag' when you ask anything about it.
Madman, the standard response "net lag" is the correct response.
What happens is, that what you see on your front end (your screen) is not quite the same as the other guy sees on his front end (his screen). This is because the two people may have 100-200ms ping times to the HTC server, and although this isn't a very long time it makes differences. So when you collide in a plane coming at you, you die becasue you hit him on YOUR front end, due to internet lag (read ping times for now) he may or may not see the same thing on his front end. He may infact be only 10 or 20 yards away from you on his front end but that's enough to avoid colission.

Let me take this a step further. YOU see a ram. Your NME does not. YOU rammed them in other words, so YOU get the damage. If YOU do not want damage, try to get BEHIND your nme as opposed to nose to nose, and the problem is solved. In general, the only ramming I tend to get is from the debris of the planes I shoot. I almost ALWAYS avoid ANY sort of nose to nose situation (unless I'm fighting JB42, in which case I TRY to HO him. heh that really pisses him off) and I maybe get rammed 1/2 dozen times a tour max, and those are mostly in furballs. Quit HO'in, and you will see far fewer rams. Don't blame "net lag" because you decide to go nose to nose with your enemy. Get some ACM. Can't get rammed if your behind them.

p.s. what I.D. do you fly in the MA under? I would be curious to see what your stat's look like.

Well Mad I can appreciate where you are comming from with Pizza Crap and the Fuel pork issues.
As for the Collision model well, flyingaround said it all there.
As for AHII, it is the way to go. AHI has a great server and the fact that they can handle the traffic they are is amazing and awsome, but AHI is out of date and has lived well past it's time. I applaud HTC for moving onto AHII even tho my patience wains from time to time, especially when Pizza Crap and Big Isles is up. Even the small maps with the majority of the fields a sector or more apart can be brutal.
The fact that he reduced the night time is one thing that gave me new life in a dulling atomosphere and the quality of AHII beta17.
For the guys that think giving the shove to people considering leaving, well that is just stupid. The more people paying HTC the better for the community. Your ignorance in this matter is just a blight on you.
Hold in there Mad it's going to get better. Try the other arenas when it gets bad. Sometimes I have found some great battles after leaving the MA to the dweebs. I'm not going to lie to ya tho, somtimes it just gets worse when you cant find a decent fighting environment anywhere lol.
I.E.
This past Wednessday, the 13ths sqd night, we were up in the MA and it was the typical MA (Vagina map knights down to a few bases, fuel porked everywhere. BORING!!!!) so we logged for the slot in the CT. OK first it was all allies against a few axis. So we changes to axis and so did everyone else so it was all axis and a few allies. Very Boring again. So we decided to go to the DA. Luckly there was a decent amount of people going at it between the Free For All fields. So that salvaged an otherwise crappy night on the AH server. A few of the guys still logged in disgust, which I couldn't balme them for.

We've all got our own personal list of things that irk us about the game. From graphics, random disconnects, AI ack, etc etc.
If you think saying "I quit unless you fix this NOW" is the solution...well, sorry.
Take Oct's advice. Take a few days off then return. Its how I play now. A few days on, a few days off. Otherwise, the game ticks me off.
They are working hard on AH2. The beta's are slowly getting prettier every release.

Thanks to the people who actually used Reason... I guess I might try some of the things you suggested.
But to Mr Flyingaround... i know ACM, I have known ACm, and will always know ACM, I could prefrom tons and tons of ACM in my sleep in a C-47 if necessary. BUT... in the MA ACM is of little use due to all the smacktards that wouldn't know ACM from ATM.
If someone points their nose at mine and I see tracers, I'm gonna fire back... normally this person opens fire at d1.2 for some reason, so i return fire at a reasonable distance. If they do not go down on that pass, I will eventually work my way on to their six or get some nice deflection shots and take them down... Most of the fighter jocks in the MA have the attention span of 2year olds and will lose track of well flown planes quickly making them easy prey.
On collisons: Like I've stated in many other threads... the current model punishes players because we are not all plugged into a SuperLAN and have to use the internet. I just do not see how people like you can call this the best way to handle collisions? Either both planes should take damage or neither should... it's that simple. Don't punish one player and reward the other because of their latency. That's all I am asking for is a fair system to handle collsions. Either both take damage or neither.
-
MadMan, such a colission system wouldn't work, there would be too many intentional rams I believe, sure thing it happaned in real life, some russians did it when they ran out of ammo and germans in the Sturmstaffeln would do it if they failed downing the bombers with guns. But in AH there would be too many rams as you really don't have to care about dying, all you have to do is re-up again, takes 20 seconds and you're in the air again. Just imagine a raid inbound a field, bombers coming in, all you have to do is ram em to knock em down.
in a perfect world with no internet lag and everybody has got <10 ms to the server it would work, but not when there are people all over the world.

Thank you for proving my point. I THOUGHT I had you pegged for a HO'r. This is why you get rammed so much. Quit using that ACM in your sleep and start using it while flying. When they go guns blazing at 1.2 here's some tips.
http://www.netaces.org/genmerges/openmove.html#title
also at http://www.netaces.org read the bit on LEAD TURNS. I'll give you a quote from the last paragraph.
The moral of the story is, DONT JUST FLY STRAIGHT AT HIM! Timing is everything here. Head on shots may get you some hits, and even some kills, but they will work against you as often as for you.

Just to reiterate
The collision model is the best possible solution. Have flown other models and they are not as good. This one is by far the "fairest" solution
You are colliding because you are going for HO's
When you see the other guys shooting you know you have him beaten in the first merge - simple as that.
When you see the other guy come at you HO shooting from 1.2 you know more than likely, you are going against a very ordinary (at best) pilot.
If you shoot back you are more than likely, a very ordinary (at best) pilot.

Nobody is attacking you Max, and even though you have resorted to childish digs, I will try to help one last time.
1. The planes are not actually ramming. What you and your nme see are 2 diff. things.
2. Due to the lag, both planes are not in the same place on both peoples front end.
3. What you see as a Ram, wasn't, if your opponent isn't taking any damage. THEIR computer didn't see the ram, YOURS did.
You rammed them.
4. If you insist on going nose on in your merge, rams will happen over and over. going for the HO, you set yourself up for a collision.
5 .By using some basic tactics, you avoid this situation completely.
It's not AH's collision model that is at fault here, it's lag. You have been told how to avoid it. Don't blame AH for what YOU choose to do Mr. "ACM in your sleep". If you are unable to see this, then the heck with it. PLEASE quit. Far 2 many HO dweeb jousters flying Aces High as it is.

The thing that amazes me everytime I see guys on the buffer complaining about being HO/rammed etc is that in all the times I have died in collisions over the years (possibly hundreds ) there was probably a handful of times that I could blame somebody or something else or it was just a very unlucky accident.
99% of cases it's my own fault .

In point of fact, if you bothered to take your own advice, you would find answers to most of your problems already posted in the BBs. Since you don't, one can only assume you are better off arguing with your cousin (at least he won't tell you to STFU! :D).
-
Shane, nice self portrait there, bet you pick up all the chicks.
FlyingAround, the thing is, on these collisions, I do NOT see the plane ramming me on my screen, just wondering if the my FE and my computer screen are seeing two different things.
On a side note: I've also learned one more thing... next time I have a problem with something, I think I'll just take it straight to customer support. Most of the people who post on this BB add zero to any discussion.
-
the FE *is* your computer/screen.
you don't have any problems that a few more months won't cure. nor are any of your problems unique to you. do a search on all the topics you've whined about.
and fwiw, none of them are "problems" per se, but rather merely the whining of an evolving seal. cheer up, it'll get better once you get past the HO's suck and spin o death phases. (disbale stall limiter, if you haven't. if you don;t even know what i'm referring to then all i can do is refer you to the post above and rtfm while you're doing it.

Good .. save us the time reading your pompous whines ... err ... problems.
"Talking to you reminds me of my two year old cousin arguing, except he occasionally has valid points."
The way you have presented your whine .. err .. problem tends to lead one to believe that you have spent too much time arguing with 2 year olds.
Oh ... by the way ... 2 year olds don't argue ... they whine.

see slap shot, exactly waht I mean... you added absolutely nothing of value to this thread. Why did you have to post that? Was in necessary?

I dont agree with that "common" argument about the collision model.
Your FE is your plane, your bullets, your rockets, your bombs and so on. If your FE sees your bullets hitting the enemy, it takes damage (I hope), if your FE sees your plane hitting the enemy, may only yours takes damage.

Basically this thread has NO VALUE.
Lets see ...
I am now debating cancelling my AH account when the next billing period comes around...
Quality introduction to a so-called "problem".
First, they insist on keeping that worthless excuse for a map nicknamed 'Pizza' in rotation. Even though the vast majority hate that map.
Nice delivery on a very well thought out and insightfull piece of information. Follows right in-line with your intro ... pissy.
Then, they refuse to do anything about the collision model, and give you the same standard response 'net lag' when you ask anything about it.
They dont do anything because there is NOTHING WRONG with the collision model. If you dont understand 'net lag' then you will never understand the collision model.
Add the fact that they are spending all their time creating AH2 rather than fixing AH1... seems like you'd fix you xurrent product before moving on to the next... but it doesn't matter, AH2 will replace AH1 in 'two weeks'.
Another thing you dont understand ... software developement. Once a NEW version of software is developed, you don't go back and waste time on the older version. Only exception is if something is DRASTICALLY wrong, and there is nothing DRASTICALLY wrong in AH1. What you may interpret to be wrong is not the measure that HTC would use.
Now, they go and remove nighttime from the MA... why? Havn't seen a single explaination??? Other than HiTech's post saying he 'wanted to tsee the other side of the fence whine.'
You haven't read much of the other posts covering this topic. In the beginning .. THERE WAS NO NIGHT.
So, HiTech decided to suspend night for awhile. Why ? ... cause he can ... also alot of people want to see it go away. All those that are whining that its gone seem somewhat selfish to me, and to those that cant stand NIGHT. HiTech did not say that it was a permenent change so why get all in a tizzy over it.
Kinda gettin feed up with the way things work around here... figure I'll take my little $15 and go elsewhere, adn when I get there, be sure to tell them WHY I am there and not here... nothing like word of mouth advertising eh?
Nothing but sour grapes and a threat here ... If we can't play the game the way I want to and use my rules, I am going to take my ball and go home and tell on you.
Do you know how many people have threatened to do the same ? ... plenty ... did their leaving change anything ? ... nope ... and neither will you exit.
You see ... You never really presented a so-call problem in your orginal post ... its nothing but an emotional whine and if you expect people not to respond to your whine in the same matter that you presented it, then take a deep breath before you post again.
As far as your prowess in ACM ... I never, and I repeat never, get rammed or HOed unless I present my nose directly to the enemy nose. I would believe that your posting style, flying style and ACM are greatly effected by your emotions ... very angry ... which leads to all your problems.
Take chill, dont be so serious, and have fun.

You know what is funny?
Go to any board for a company no mater what product they sell, Software, hardware, cage monkeys, sheep whatever.
You will always get guys like this that come and rant, make themselves seem so ****ing stupid, to everyone, not understand why no one takes a word they have to say seriously and then call everyone else *******s.
This is the same type of jerkoff, who will write a letter to a CEO over software he bought out of the discontued bin for 5 bucks and demand 500$ service "cause the customer is always right", they think that statement gives them the right to be *******s.
I always have to wonder how these guys are in real life, I suspect they are the brooding depressed people that hate life because nothing lives up to their standards, and they do not understand that when something they do not like gets implimented (night) it might be because the majority feel a different way and they may not be right.
