(1) With full flaps, it will lift off runway at 75mph.
(2) Dives well up to 550mph
(3) 35 eny
(4) Turns a bit better than P51D, being that its 700 pounds lighter.
It is slower than the P51D up to 25k though.

Don't forget it climbs quite a bit better than the -D too.
At mid-high altitudes there is no non-perked fighter I'd rather fly. Don't blow E and keep it FAST.
In fact it is my favourite fighter, despite the 4 0.50's.

Damn guys, put a cork in it will ya? Somebody might hear!
All right people, the P51b sucks and isn't a threat to anyone. Just ignore it, people, and move along now. MOOOVE ALONG!

P51s are food :) Bring me more, even more food pls. :)

Actually the D is the better climber.

I think the D pony climbs a tad better.

Yeah, the B was so good that the US had to come up witht he D to make fights more even.
:D

I honestly can't feel that much difference in handling between the B and D when both only have 4 guns. I don't like the rear view from the B, nor the smaller external bombs, nor the lousy 'high-drag' rocket tubes, nor the poor acceleration (which is much worse than the D). In the 15-17K range though the B is faster and climbs a bit better, I never typically venture that high and the D is superior anywhere below those alts. Not saying the B is bad though, it is still a very dangerous aircraft, but it doens't tend to quite have the flexibilty of the D model.

Eny is 3 times that of a P51D. That right there is incentive enough.
-
I don't have the info in front up me but if memory serves the D climbs better up to 8k or so, above that the B is better.

LOL! Yup your getting there. I'll take my B model and run rings around the D in climb, speed, & turns. However, everything has it's Envelops. The D has it's place to shine too. To start with, 6 50's on the D vs 4 50's on the B.
If I have my choice I'll take a C with a Malcom Hood :)

Airframe-wise, the only difference between the B and C was the factory that built them. Malcolm Hoods were fitted to both. Later B models and most C models were powered by the same V-1650-7 engine as the D model. However, they were lighter and more stable in the yaw axis. Many pilots were reluctant to surrender their well sorted Bs and Cs for the new P-51D. Indeed, some like Bud Anderson preferred the B/C with the Malcolm hood over the P-51D.
As far as the the AH P-51B goes, I prefer it to the D too. Its superior agility shows when you go head-to-head with a P-51D.
My regards,

With no intention of steeling this thread SunTracker... But have you tried the F6F?
I am a strong advocate of the P51D... IMHO it is one of the most versitile fighters/attackers in the game.
I flew the F6F tonight for the first time in a long time... I mean really flew it/faught/turned it for all its worth...
I found it to be most forgiving in low and slow turn fights and can E Fight like a champ:aok
I like the 51B... Its 4x50s seems to be more leathal at times than the 6x50s on the Delta 51. I could be imagining things but the guns on the 51B have surprised me more than a few times in the past.

I find I use the B for air to air, either escort or air base defense... and I use the D for ground assaults due to the fact it carries much more ordinance.
