Did you like the part about Blackburn getting a kill on the guy on his way back home, canopy slid back, feet on the dash, and a cig' in his mouth? Similar to your first contact with Storch eh?

Yeah ... that was good, too.

Blackburn related the same event in his book as follows:

"I was elated with my temporary wingman, and I was all set to tell him that he had earned a trial slot as a section leader. When he approached me following the debrief back at Piva Yoke, he had a "look" on his face, and I thought he was going to ask for the lead assignment I had decided he had coming.

'Skipper, you're nuts! I want out of this. Now!'

I was more than just miffed; I felt betrayed. My startled, immediate response was an inadequate 'So?' Then I recovered and told him to go pack, that he could fly out to the rear before sunset. However, the last thing I said to him was from the heart: 'I am sorry to lose you."
