Sounds like her politics were interfering with her ability to contribute:

"One member of the committee, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Blackburn failed to attend a number of council meetings after disagreeing with other members on policy."

No, cancer is so rare that I have never had any friends or relatives die from it.

However, I am glad that this woman can return to her important cancer research instead of wasting her time as a tool for the DNC.  This may actually be one of the best things chimpy has done.

Gee Funky, I'll bet she did that.  Too bad she can't use certain cell lines in her work now.  Ole GB in his obvious wisdom made that illegal too.

hmm... seems she was hired for two years and her term was over... not only that but as funky points out... she was more concerned with politics than her job... seems that now she can go back to her work.   Who got hurt here?

Who got hurt?  Any member of John Q. Public who has a genetic predisposition to cancer or exposure to carcinogenic material.

Blackburn is an active and brilliant individual doing ground-breaking research.  Who better to advise politicians who are unfamiliar with the area?

I would imagine Blackburn saw the office as a mixed blessing.  On the one hand, it gave her the opportunity to provide information; on the other hand, it took time away from research.

So far as Blackburn's career, yeah, being dismissed is a big plus -- she'll have more time to devote to research.  But it's a big minus for us since it means the politicians will be more clueless than usual (hard to imagine.)

Good point, Pongo.  I remember being 5 or 6 and figuring out that I was mortal.  Guess the current admin is still working on that one.

I gotta ask.. Do you really think that the President's Council on Bioethics had anything to do with that idiotic decision regarding Stem Cells?

That was right-wing-anti-abortion-Jerry Falwell-700 Club nonsense and no member of that council could have done watermelon about it.

I would imagine (don't know) that most of the council on bioethics supported unrestricted stemcell research.

As for the Jerry Falwell group, well,  your guess is good as mine.  Hell, ole Georgie likes to pray in public, so anything is possible. ;)

the lady was obnoxious and had poor work ethics... her term was over so she got let go.   If she really is worth a damn then she will do great things now that she has the time.   Doesn't seem she was cut out for commitee work... big deal.

Where does this rate?

An apparel merchandiser for President Bush's re-election campaign sold fleece pullovers with a Bush-Cheney logo that were made in Myanmar, even though the United States has banned imports from that country, campaign and company officials said yesterday.

The merchandiser, Ted Jackson, said his company, the Spalding Group, sold up to 10 Bush-Cheney pullovers made in Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. Each cost $49.95.

Last summer, Mr. Bush signed legislation that barred imports from Myanmar to pressure that country's military dictatorship to take steps toward democracy.
