Title: Windows XP problem
Post by: AdmRose on March 19, 2004, 09:50:19 AM
I just got a new Soyo P4I 845PE mobo w/P4 1.8GHz and it boots up just fine, but when I get to the OS selection screen (its a dual boot HD, 98 and XP) and select XP, the computer restarts. I can get into 98 just fine but it won't recognize the CDROM drives. I read that XP may not start up if it was installed on a different chipset (it was, on an ALi chipset, this board is all Intel) and would have to be reinstalled to work. My questions are:

1) Can I reinstall XP without losing all my files?
2) Would repairing the old installation work?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Your system is bluescreening right after trying to boot XP.  By default XP will simply reboot if this happens.

You can try a repair install, but I think most likely you will need to do a clean install of XP.
