Hey guys, havent seen this posted, so i thought i would, this game is simply amazing! Im currently upgrading the comp rightnow so i havent go to expierence it in its full glory, but from what ive got, its awesome, just thought id let everyone know, you guys should check it out.
Ive been waiten for a good vietnam sim for awhile!:aok
-
or can ya download a demo or something about it?
-
I was about to post the same topic. :D
Went out and bought it today - FANTASTIC game!
I wasnt expecting much beyond BF1942 - I WAS expecting the same crappy infantry play.
Neither held any water. The new engine is great, the gameplay is much improved, and its FUN.
Well worth it. The only problem I have is that the EA version of chopper control is seriously dumbed down compared to DC.
-
its boxed, but you can go to the website and check out some in-game vids of it, if ya want.
-
Kinda reluctant to buy it after playing BF1942... which was disappointing, too arcadish not enough simish. Especially after having played Day of Defeat forever and two days. But I no longer play DoD due to the release of Steam which basically killed all HL games for dial-uppers.
So, can anybody compare BFV to BF1942?
-
death to dial uppers.
So this is a new game engine? Is it as lame(cheap tactics) as BF and DC?
-
Its just as 'arcade-like' as 1942 - but all the problems gameplay wise in 42 have been ironed out.
They dotn even feel like the same game. But no - its not a sim. Just good gook-blastin' fun.
-
Is it any fun driving the tanks in vietnam?
-
Sour, tell me,
If one of your guys gets wounded, are you able to call in a dustoff? The chopper arrives 10 minutes later but not there’s another problem.. Someone has to pop off smoke.. green for safe red for hot or he won’t land. If you play the role of medic, does your command bar fill up the entire screen?.. determine what the wound is.. then select the right procedure?.. Is the wounded soldier screaming in pain, drawing enemy fire to your position?
Are the missions varied? In one, you are tasked with setting up a small relay tower on the top of a mountain?..
Reason I ask is all this is available now in Operation Flashpoint Resistance. The scripting language is limitless.
I’ve tried several of these first person shooters -- “Call to Duty“, “America’s Army”, the demo of “BF1942“ and felt put off by the small maps and heavy mission scripting. Ended up going back to Flashpoint because of the freedom you have to conduct your mission.

Why would you buy an arcade gaming knowing its an arcade game expecting a sim? funny stuff.. isn't that what the demo for.
BFV is great.. Love the option of replacing the in game songs with your own mp3's

what does driving the russian tanks feel like? is it cool?
-
I only get about 10 ft then I'm nuked by the LAW/ Grenade launcher class. THey need to balance the M-60 class. The tanks are cool but the textures are blurry not sharp. The Cobra on the other hand is awesome. way better than the EOD version which was also great.
-
does driving and using the tank feel ok or is it just crap ? how does it feel when you drive across terrain? like in AH?
-
BF1942 never pretended to be anything other than an arcade game.
It did exactly what it said on the tin. With all the mods etc its become an amazing game.
-
BFV is really good for graphic updates, as the terrain is terrific, but it is limited. It's Vietnam as you know. Weeds, and wooden bridges are very cool, but wear off in time. For what it is, it's well done.
So is the new interface. The "Q" key funtion is nice, but overall I'd say I like BF1942 WWII maps and the DC MODS as much, maybe better, pry because after time they are as much fun, and it's more varied. That and I get killed in BVN all the time by nme I can't even see. The AI seems bugged, where in BF42 it was you never got shot unless you could see your attacker.
It's still worth getting to see if you like it, and I bought it just to support the company.

Well, first off. Its exclusively multiplayer - so there are no 'missions.'
In addition to that, I dont think OFP is the target for this game. "realism" isnt exactly what they were shooing for, an in that aspect, BFV doesnt hold a candle to many other games.
If "fun" is what youre looking for, however, I dont think you can do much better. :aok

I personally have had a blast, but I'm sure a patch will be on the way to address some balance issues;
1. US M-60 class; ridiculously overpowered. No one uses the regular M-16 troops cuz the M60 just destroys all AND has the LAW which means you can kill tanks.
2. UH-1 gunship 2nd seat machine guns kill MiGs like they are made of paper. My friend and I were doing so well that people refused to fly them in our server cuz we'd shoot em down quick.
3. Mi-8 attack is way too powerful. If there isn't a phantom around, then the US can't stop from being destroyed at will. I went something like 54-3 the other night with it and singlehandedly won the map we were on.. lang valley or something. The US also has the Cobra but the heat seekers are the 2nd gunners secondary fire so its a lot harder to coordinate.
4. personal rifles do jack against aircraft;; which is realistic, but as said above the heli's really can be used quite effectively. my friend brought his machine over and between the two of us, we were unstoppable.
anyway, its really quite fun

I;m having a blast chopping up GI's with the machete. Lay in the grass.. let em run by and then pull a Jason Voorhees on em!
-
Can you use a joystick for flying the aircraft in vietnam? Flying with the arrow keys etc is fricken hard! (specially with the jets!)
-
Nevermind i figured it out!:)
-
I stil wish teh choppers felt like DC.. they are way too 'stiff' and dont obey the laws of physics.

Been playing this game daily since the release. I'm gonna stick with the NVA team. USA is just to over powering with the helios and the deadly accurate at any distance sniper M-60. It takes skill to get the job down with NVA infantry classes. Fear the bungie sticks!
