Saw this at slashdot, so it may be difficult to reach for a day. Good read and it's written by Intel's chief IA32 architect through the Pentium II, III, IV.

You can do get quite a bit more out of a machine if you bought the right stuff. Thats the trick... GL cranking your dell up 60 percent beyond what it's locked down to.

AMD and Asus all the way for me, my AMD 2100 has been o/c to 2.15 Ghz since the first day it was turned on (more than a year ago). My Ti4200 vid card went 300/500 at the same time and hasn't looked back since. AquaMark with the AMD 2100 o/c and ATI 9800 Pro (stock) was 34k+.
The best thing i evar did was hookup my s/pdif and Svideo and play movies straight from the HD.
How well do Pents o/c now?
cheers...

Pents don't oc as much as AMD chips.. The Barton 2500 used to be the best option but they locked them down last aug after folks where getting 4.5 gigs plus out of them. The best AMD chip now is the 2600 M which remains unlocked. If you crank it up it will outrun a fx51 oc'd by a decent margin. Not bad for a 120 dollar chip.
