Hehehe... I liked this one:
Quote
Putting all of this into perspective: You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter twin-turbo Corvette Z06. More than a mile up the road, a Top Fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a measured quarter-mile as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the Vette up through the gears and blast across the starting line and past the dragster at an honest 200 mph. The "tree" goes green for both of you at that moment. The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down, but you hear a brutal whine that sears your eardrums, and within three seconds, the dragster catches you and beats you to the finish line, a quarter-mile from where you just passed him. From a standing start, the dragster spotted you 200 mph and not only caught you but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a mere 1320 feet.

The noise top fuelers make is insane, you can almost see the sound waves.

they don't use overhead cam motors.

My buddy owns and drives a top gas dragster in the "nostalgia" class (front engine)   even at 180 mph it is pretty cool.

I was hooked right off the bat:
Quote
One Top Fuel dragster's 500-cubic-inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the first four rows at the Daytona 500.

A stock Dodge Hemi V-8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's supercharger.

Hmmmmm Scratches head ..... with nitro even a small 4 banger will turn a full size blower .In the early days the cam wasnt much over stock either.

"they don't use overhead cam motors. "

Hmmm rings the good old cammers timing chains and gear sets.
It almost takes longer to time the cams then it does to do the RnR of the clutch.

They kept more to the conventual style hemi's because of the intensive damage that would happen to the cam shaft and cyl heads after a hickup in the cammer motors .
the KB/chrysler/donovan  hemi's ussually just bends a push rod and then windows the block as it spits the piston .

oh yea btw a top fuel car abtains 90-95 % of its top speed by the 1/8th mile mark the rest of the time your trying to get the darn thing stopped.

They didn't mention how loud those top fuel dragsters are. Loudest noise I've ever heard and I've stood next to SR-71s, F-111's, and F4's taking off.
