Title: Initialization Failed
Post by: ChasR on March 23, 2004, 10:12:42 PM
Just did a fresh install of Win XP.  Downloaded AH but it wont start, gives me a white screen and error message:
Initialization Failed with -5
MainSN_FAILED -2
Ideas? Fix?

Did you install your sound card drivers?  The sound card initialization failed.  Check DXDIAG (Start->Run->DXDIAG) under the "Sound" tab and see what it says.

How stupid of me.  Didn't install Creative SB drivers and had on board sound disabled in bios.
Thanks.

I have a different kind of problem:
I've been having sound problems with my computer, and it is interfering with Aces High. When I start up my computer, I recieve a "Plug and Play" error sign, and am prompted to press F1 to continue or F12 to go to System settings. I find nothing in settings that can help me, so I continue by pressing F1. I start up normally, exept I have no sound, just Beeps that come from my computer. I then try to open Aces High to play.  Every time I open AH, it gives me an error sign that reads "Initialization failed with -5 mainSN_FAILED -2", and an "OK" sign under it. When I click "OK", it closes Aces High. I have gone to sound settings and found that no sound device is listed in settings. Also, there is no Sound tab in DirectX. Any suggestions Skuzzy (Or anyone else who knows better :D )

**(Added)**Also right now I am starting to hear little spits of sounds coming from my speakers...

If the sound card is not showing up in DXDIAG, then you have one of a couple of possibilities;

1)  The sound card drivers are not loaded for the device.
2)  The sound card is dead.
3)  You have multiple drivers loaded for multiple sound cards that are not installed and it is causing failures.
4)  Your sound card is sharing an interrupt with a device that does not share interrupts well.
