Title: Request for additional sounds
Post by: Octavius on March 23, 2004, 11:32:30 PM
The addition of a wider variety of sounds would benefit everyone.  They will allow for fine tuned customization.  Sound is a huuuge factor in many games for me.   It offers the opportunity for much more immersion.  A few ideas for extra sounds have already been mentioned.  I'll list what I think would add another dimension to the game:

1)  Ambient sounds - another thread had discussed this already:  flowing water, crickets, birds, artillery and gunfire in the distance - anyone who has played Combat Mission knows what I'm talking about. ex:  bird.wav, circket.wav, ambience.wav, monkey.wav?

2)  Interior/Exterior sounds - This allows for a muffled 'inside the cockpit' sound for engines/gunfire/bombdrops/whatever.  I think it will give players a greater sense of being in an enclosed area.  The glass damage effects (blood/oil/bullet holes) give this effect... sounds will enhance this.  ex:  20mm.wav (external), 20mm_i.wav (internal)?

3)  Multiple engine sounds - Damaged or rough running engine sounds would be another great addition.  Take a bullet to your engine block and your oil begins to leak... eventually it will overheat and seize up.  I'd like the transition to be noticed audibly :)  eng_d.wav?

4)  More diverse damage sounds -  Multiple bullet hit sounds per round type.
ex:  hit20mm_x.wav  where 'x' = 1-5 sounds
hit50cal_x.wav where 'x' = 1-5 sounds
etc...[/b]

5) more suggestions?

As I've already stated, sounds are an important issue and I hope this is considered :)

Whatya think?

I'd love to hear the field AA guns fire.  It's kind of strange sitting in the tower, in a gv, or on the rearm pad and seeing your field's AA fire but hearing no sounds.

mitsu sound offers multiple engine sounds unique to each aircraft. However, I would love to see muffled cockpit sounds where the sound changes depending on which direction your facing.

A softening or dimming of sounds when blacking out :)

Of course, this would need a gradual high G blackout time instead of the current instantaneous tunnel vision.
