Title: NOE
Post by: AKcurly on May 30, 2001, 05:18:00 AM
Is it available or not?  Tonight, we did some sneak captures and when we flew below 500 feet on the water, the bar counter didn't register (as advertised.)  However, when we moved towards inland bases, in many cases it was impossible to stay below 500 feet.  Unfortunately, the bar counter did jump although we were approximately 200 feet above ground.

It seems to me that 1) for the sake of realism and 2) gameplay, that radar should not function near the ground.

On the other hand, the ground has always been overmodeled in AH.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

The concerns about a group of F4U1Cs making a NOE attack on HQ are valid.  The remarks made by me (and Darling's thread) concerning NOE are valid.

It seems like to me the best way to resolve this issue is to remove HQ's function so far as it controls arena wide DAR.  Of course, if you would get rid of arena wide DAR, that would solve all issues.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I still like the idea of seeing only the dots in your sector and no dots in enemy sectors, but nothing else!  I like the idea of being able to see the radar situation of all fields from the tower (provided the radar is up at the fields you query.)

Man, this could be really cool!  NOE to an enemy base, pop up and rocket down the local radar.  Now, the enemy would be blind.
Here, I'm assuming the version of DAR described above.

AH is about field capture for most of us.  Anything which enhances the ability to capture fields without denying valid opportunities for pure dogfighting should be given serious thought.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I wouldn't like it not showing for GVs.

If we assume that HQ represents Command and Control, then destroying HQ should shut down a country's global DAR, sector bars, and inflight local DAR.  Operational local DAR should be available in the tower.

Just surround HQ with enough ack that an NOE jabo attack would be VERY costly, and let HQ continue to be a strategic target for high altitude bombing.

Not a bad idea. Making the HQ protected by very strong short range ack would encourage level-bombing-only attacks of the HQ facility.
