Got a pair of old analog gameport CH Pro pedals which work somewhat, I can use them with AH thanks to calibirating system in AH. They spike some (got damper set at about half for ruddder now) and they react far too good to the left. If I move the pedals about 60% to the left it gives out 100% responce while if I move it 60% to the right it gives out about 60%. 100% to the right it gives out 100% so it works that way.
Would it help changing the pots? What exaclty are "pots"? I opened it up once but can't remember if I saw anything special. If it would help to change the pots, so it gets back to "tip-top" or almost atleast it would be great.
Where can I get pots?

I have to pull mine a part every couple of years and spray the pots with WD40 . (they are due for it now also)
because they are on the floor they tend to get lots of dust ect in them
seems to fix spikes etc pretty well
small tip - be careful pulling them apart - hang em upside down between something so the pedals can hang freely

Another solution to the spiking problem is to get a Analog-USB converter. I have the radio shack one that cost about 16.00 and I believe it's part number 16. I've been using it for several years and no spiking to speak of.
Hope this helps:)
