did you do the start /run / dxdiag

after installing dx9.0b ???  and sometimes you have to refresh /reload some of the games so it reconizes the new ver. of dx.  you cant back up to the old dx without reformating.

This belongs in HS, not GD.

But as you're here... I had that problem just after I'd built my system. I had not set up the BIOS quite correctly. The clock and multiplier settings meant that I was overclocking my CPU. Not by a huge amount, but enough to cause the problem. CTD, or in some cases CTD/auto reboot.

Since you mentioned it
Planning on trying my hand at building my own system sometime in the next couple months.
Just how does one set up the  BIOS correctly?

Funny you mentioned botu the restart buddy of mine had that problem. never could figure out what it was. Now we know.

Too bd that was 5+ years and two systems ago:lol

DRED,

One thing you need to do before building any system is to acquire the mobo manual, and read it. Most of the good mobo manufacturers will store their mobo manuals in .PDF format on their website.

To answer your question about BIOS settings, I found the answer to my woes on p55 of my mobo manual. Well, that's not quite true. I suspected that the CTD problem was either an overclock problem or a memory problem. The directions on p55 helped me to verify my clock settings, and realise that this is where the problem lay. I've reproduced that page here so as you know what to look for.

Which mobo will you get? Many of us have this Asus A7N8X-DLX and I think we're all delighted!
