Title: Heads up for AGW/WBIII board browsers

An ugly pop-up program is on both boards. You don't wanna go there. Doesn't activate until the next time you go on line.

Changes your homepage and adds six or seven desktop shortcuts of which two can't be deleted until you figure out how. Those two continually change your homepage and send you off to pop-up spam land. Had to reboot twice. On the reboot it's still there..

Registery edit and enditall won't accomplish it. A tip toe dance with alt control delete with a trashcan full will get you back out. It puts stuff everywhere.

It was fun, but I'm wierd. A friday nights adventure.

You need this (http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot).

And this (http://www.metaproducts.com/mp/mpProducts_Detail.asp?id=18). It'll catch .exe files embedded in web pages and let ya cancel the download.

I used to hate trying to get that **** off my system.

Companies and individuals that display predatorial behavior should be removed - i think anyway.

Welp quig, it busted out laughing at those programs.

Adds 2 programs to the startup registry and 5 to your programs.

I didn't wanna do this today...

What are you saying? Those programs I posted are spy ware?

All RegProt does is watch the Windows registry for changes.

And Download Express is a download manager that is supposed to increase you download speeds. I use it because if you go to a site that has a file embedded in it, DE will catch it as soon as it starts to download and allow you to cancel it. But any download manager should work.

I'll re-install and see if I can figure out what you are talking about.

Nooo !!! Quig your programs are fine.

They just didn't work with this trojan horse popup over there.

Had to test them :D

Been so long since I had to mess with the settings I forgot to mention a couple things.

You need to right-click on any link and select 'Download using Download Express'. When it pops up, click Advanced>Integration. In the file list box add these: SYS, INI, BAT, DAT, HOSTS

Then click OK and close DE.

Set up Internet Explorer like this:

Click Tools>Internet Options>Advanced.

Un-check the boxes next to 'Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)' and 'Enable Install On Demand (Other)'.

This is a non-issue with properly configured/protected PC.  If you didn't get hit there you were going to get hit from somewhere else anyway.  

Recommend for prevention:

Zone Alarm Pro (Firewalls are no longer optional equipment)
SpyBot (the REAL one from germany)

For After The Fact:

HiJack This (only if you savvy enough to know what you should be deleting)


Something new I been using for a month or so:

The Ultimate Trouble Shooter (answersthatwork.com) examines your startups and services and references a database about each.

(Spyware etc. been bringing in an extra 200-300 a week for me, and these are the tools I use when on a call)

Just quit using IE as your web browser and Outlook as your mail program. IE alone has dozen or so vulnerabilities unfixed at any given time.

What DocYo and fats said. IE is a virus, not a browser, and unless you know what you're doing it'll let anything through. Use Mozilla or something based on it. FireFox is the best, with Mozilla a close second and Netcrap a very distant third. But all are superior to IE.
