Title: P-47 Toughness
Post by: MrSpanky on March 28, 2004, 12:46:52 AM
I has just wondering if anyone had any information about the toughness of the P-47 models and how they compare to each other.  Thanks.

All the P-47s seem to be equally tough to me: i don't think there is any difference.

The P-47 is a very sturdy plane. It has reinforced fuel tanks just like the F6F. The P-47 is just behind the F6F in strength and durability.

The difference between the hellcat and P-47 toghness can be seen at carriers.  An F6F will survive a dive bomb run - that is, if you're trying to survive . The P-47s die at 20k, 12 miles out to a 1 ping auto ack shot.

In my experience flying and shooting at the P47's and the F6F, the F6F wins the sturdyness battle. P47's are pretty sturdy but not quite as sturdy as they should be IMO, atleast not judging from WW2 combat reports.

Jug to Jug all modelles are about the same.

I'd have to chime in that the F6F is slightly more sturdy than the P47.  Though it seems to me that the F4F-4 is even tougher still.  The only thing I can think of since I imagine modelling of how hard to kill a plane is has to be one of the most subjective parts of the game.  You can't really messure it like you can speed, climb rate, etc.  Both AC (F6F and P47) have a reputation as being very sturdy, well built, tough planes.  The edge I think the F6F has at least in the minds of the folks at HTC (pure speculation) is that the Hellcat is a NAVY plane built to take the rigors of carrier operations whereas the p47, while tough, is not.  I read an article where they dropped a F6F with gear down straight down (wheels first) off a 21' scafold and the landing gear held.  I doubt any AAF planes could do that.

The P47 itself, all models seem about equally sturdy IMHO.

maybe because its the fact that its more easy to hit a jug then a F6F

you know the IL2 is the strongest single ENG plane in the game but its so slow that its a easy target

what bother's me tho is how 4 out of 5 flights i take up a jug they end in pliot wound can some one tell me why i get more pliot wounds in this plane then anyother i have flew

Ive flown both aircraft and their both tough...

The P47 imo is tougher...  with exception to pilot wounds... (not counting the d11 razorback..)

All aircraft with bubble cockpits seem to get more wounds then aircraft with no rear glass..

where I think the f6's claim to toughness is in regards to its smaller size and better manueverability..  Dont get me wrong the f6 tail section / rear fuselage seems damn near as tough as the jug, I noticed more weakness in it wings and wing roots..

I have no scientific evidence to support this claim but this is what i have noticed..

2 cents..

DoctorYo

PS:  I receive very few if any wounds in D11..  Now that jug is tough..  And yes im Biased...

DocYo, F6F is BIG fighter with wingspan wider than P-47.

(IMHO)
The P47's feel weaker than F6F. This is from my  Hurricane Mk1 h2h-point of view (lethalitys =1).

I use the d175-200 converge. Aiming to the tail section or to the wing tips.

The P47 and F6F cockpit glasses are equal weak:D
