LTAR is doing their best to talk HTC into bringing this veh to AH or AH2.
If there is a God they will give us our veh.

fun perkride
-
you guys can hit planes from 3.5k out with an osty(and thats a lead shot) what do you need that for?
-
Because you can?
From what i've heard, it can get 40 or 60 shots out in a few seconds, but then it's vulnerable for 10-20 seconds while it reloads.
-
Those things used to tear my a** up in Janes WWII Fighters. I still hate seeing pics of them.
-
Thanks Delerium for the link fix;)
Guess thats what happens when ya dont pay attn to what yer doing!
As far as the rest of ya's, we {LTAR} need this vehicle to help protect our friendly air fields and townships from the ever-lurking theat of evil attack aircraft and such!
Have a nice day :D
-
I always liked to man these in AW. Much superior rate of fire to Osti and superior weight of lead and range to M16.

That would be 80 rounds. Each of the four guns are fed by 20 round box magazines. If HTC model realistic reloading this vehicle will be a "hangar queen".

I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that there were many more of these dudes in WWII than Ostwinds.
did a quick look - figures are down the page under Panzer IV section:

-
the latter third/half of the war or so, each panzer column would have these nasties front, rear and scattered in the middle

Moil, when are you guys gonna hold classes on how to kill in osties? Only thing I manage to kill in them are me.

Red Tail, your more than welcome to ride with the LTAR's to learn the ropes about the Ostwind = {Eastwind}
And for Furball, yes we are often refered to as "ltards" but with over 7500 squad kills, we might not be AH only "tards" ??
{find another squad with over 7500 kills & we'll talk}
The Wirbelwind = {Whirlwind} is armed with 4 20mm guns that are box magizine fed, with 20rnds per magizine. The Wirbelwind uses a Panzer IV chassis and has a gun platform on top.The crew consists of 4-5 men. Driver, Gun Capt./spotter, Gunner and two loaders. A good gun crew could reload both barrels in under 20sec's keeping a constant stream of fire into the sky.
Wirbelwind and Ostwind were fitted with very similar (especially designed) open-top (Wirbelwind's turret had 9 side panels and Ostwind's had 6 side panels) turrets mounted in the place of standard turrets. Ostwind's turret was nicknamed Keksdose - cookie tin. Main difference was that Wirbelwind was armed with quadruple 20mm Flak 38 L/112.5 guns while Ostwind was armed with single 37mm Flak 43 L/89 gun (both could be used against ground targets as well). 20mm Flak proved to be less effective than 37mm Flak and was eventually replaced by it. Both were produced by Ostbau Works in Sagan, Silesia in limited numbers due to the material shortages and the fact that Ostbau Works moved to facilities of Deutsche Eisenwerke in Teplitz and Duisburg due to danger of being overrun by the Soviets. Overall from May to November of 1944, only 87(105) Wirbelwinds were made, contrary to only 44(43) Ostwinds produced from July 1944 to March of 1945. Both vehicles were issued to Flugabwehrzug (AA platoons) units of Panzer Divisions. There were never enough of them to equip frontline units, which were in the need for adequate mobile AA defense. Both proved to be very effective against low flying aircraft. The interesting fact is that prototype Ostwindwas combat tested by 1st Waffen SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler" during the Ardennes Offensive (December 16 to 22 of 1944) and returned to factory undamaged.
Thats yer history lesson for today kids. See you on the battlefield

I was only joking...
But still... as not to refuse the challenge...
418 Sqn RCAF Hornets 2TAF
wing 1: -
Fighter Kills : 2958
Bomber Kills: 204
Attack kills: 1881
Vehicle Kills: 1173
Total Kills : 6216
(overall squad rank 1)
Wing 2:-
Fighter Kills : 1944
Bomber Kills : 67
Attack Kills : 993
Vehicle Kills: 1047
Total Kills : 4051
(overall squad rank 2)
Overall squad Kills 10267

4wing =441= - 6801 Kills
4wing =416= - 1241 Kills
8042 Kills Total.
And NO, you guys can't have the wirblewind... if what you are saying is true, and that thing has a constant rate of fire without the reloading, it would be almost impossible to attack from the air, and would even be a HUGE ground threat even to tanks close range. If you perk it like a 262, then maybe, but not free.
-
they make the ostwin look overdone
-
I thought u said we would talk if i found a squad with over 7500 kills?
What we gonna talk about?
-
hmmm....
I've got 1345 in the last 4 months....been playing since 1999 (with afew breaks)....so....48 months times 336.25 = 16,140:aok
boy I love new math:)....but probably have 7500 easily

First off, congrats on the # of squad kills:aok
Thats awesome!
Second, the Wirbelwind doesn't have a high rate of sustained fire, it has to be reloaded when the magizine becomes empty.
Keep in mind ea magizine only has 20 rnds ea, 20rnds per barrel times 4. Furthermore, you cannot change out the magizine until both guns on one side are done firing or empty. Which makes the crew vaunerable to attack, ESPECIALLY if you have the sides down.
I do however like the idea that it possably be a "perk" vehicle like the Tiger, that way you have to earn it to use it. {which lucky for us, LTAR, it wouldn't take long at all, with over 2000 veh ponits I'll choose the Wirbelwind} :D
-
Oh ok, thats fair then, if it cannot sustain fire. I was misunderstanding your last post where you were noting how many crew it took to man, and that it could keep a constant rate of fire in the air. I've seen you guys scatter out of that vh the second it pops with like a dozen osti's and it looks like freakin Bagdhad videos with all that tracer fire going up :D If there were 3 more guns per vehicle out there, it would just be a wall of fire. I'm cool with it, if it works how you mention. :aok
on your kills as well... I can only take credit for like 250 of my squad's though as its been a hectic month and I've been trying to learn more ACM stuff. Getting shot down quite a bit
Anyways, continue on with the discussion, if you need me I'll be back in the peanut gallery.

No reason to ask wirbelwind with reload handicap if you can have

hehe just what we need, an armored M16 with uber cannons.
Perked GV ride #2 :lol
-
Hahahaa
Boy, it looks like I stired things up again in the GV dept.:p
It's so funny that a lot {not all} of guys claim and boast about killing us GV guys and how EASY it is {which at times is very true} so I request a little something to balance it out and WHOA!!! YOU GUYS CANT HAVE THAT!!!!
Now come on, if it's so easy to kill us, take down our hangers and carpet bomb us with your B26's & Lanc's, then we should be able to give ya one hell of a fight back or make ya think twice about that 300' bombing run?
If my memory serves me correct and from watching enough History channel, I have yet to see actual footage {and I've seen a lot} of bombers capet bombing GV's at 300' above the deck!
Thats all for now, thanks guys for all the great posts:aok
P.S. who's that standing in the front row of the peanut gallery? sit down please
-
Okay, you guys can have those Wirbelwind-o-deaths if you promise not to shoot me with em. :D

Well if they modelled realistic reloading on the osty, where's
the truck convoy they'd need to carry that many 37mm? :aok

damage model?

We've all looked. HTC has looked. There isn't any source that claims the Ostwind carried less ammo than it does in AH. Everybody has been skeptical. There simply isn't any evidence to back up the skepticism.
Unfortunately.
As to damage modeling, Another guy and I were plwying around in the AH2 Beta, me in a Mossie and him in an Osti, and I started straffing him with just the .303s so as not to actually damage him. My .303s took out his main gun.

I have to agree with MOIL more GV models need to be incorporated into the game. I know that the game is mainly a flying sim but if your going to have the Vehicles you should have all of them. Let's face it WWII wasn't just about the air battles.
you will probable attract a lot of NEW players who like to play GV's that they can't get in this game. A bonus for HTC.
Never Give Up Never Surrender

The Wirbelwind carries a loadout of 1250 20mm , 1000rnds of hull machine gun ammo.
The Ostwind caries a loadout of 1000rnds 37mm and 850rnds hull machine gun.
I will put a link on here with the specs and ammo loadouts for both.
