Is the model gonna be a fediddleed up in AH2 as it always has been here? Have never seen any mention of it. (As far as that goes, any comment at ALL, other than.."what GV problem?") Im wondering if quality of computer or connect has to do with endless 1 shot deaths, or the opposite thereof against enemy, or no hit sprite at short range..? Gv's arent the only thing I like to do here, but they're a big part of it, and Im about ready to go WW2OL, or SOME other game that is, at the least, predictable.
And refrain from the "this is an air-sim" bs---if ya are gonna do somethin, do it right, or not at all.--If they yanked gv's outta AH, as many pure-fiter types wish, heap many peeps would quit...(hmm...many said pure-fiter types would prolly wish fer that too;

I'm one of those "pure air to air types" but couldn't agree with you more...cept of course your whinning bout the 1 shot deaths (kind of remember you dinging me twice on big island) 1 shot flanking shots from 2.0 (frigging aimbot:mad: j/k)....
Seriously I "hate" having GV's in the game at all....but I'm messing with them more and more....simply since the current setup devalues alot of what I enjoy in the air to air game and they are a part of the "scoring system" (I'd never admit they can be a blast:aok ).
However, the truth is that they are beginning to eat at the integrity of the game in many players eyes. Listen to the vox chatter and it's clear that a significant % of players are openly using words like "cheating, hacking, wall hack, aimbot...etc" repeatedly. Like you I attribute it to the "GV war" being an afterthought in AH1. But even today I had a situation where I hit a PZ (I was in PZ) point blank (~600yds) in rear facing 5 times before he died. I've had this problem repeatedly...often it seems with the same players. Over the weekend I was in a tiger and had to hit a PZ 6 times from ~1200yds to kill it. I've had some great "long range" battles with other PZ's ~2400-3000yds and I'm used to the occasional "snake eyes" roles that can go either way...but when you see a guy consistantly killing at ~2800 yds in a pz in 1 shot you have to wonder a bit.
As much as I'm looking forward to AH2 this is a game with a bunch of underlying issues that make it vulnerable...and sure 80% of the player base will tell you "don't let the door hit you in the prettythang"....gee those guys said the same thing when I left AW in 1999 (and Im sure the WB guys said the same thing)...gee where are those games/companies now. Speaking as a business man who built two companies into multimillion dollar entities before I was 40, your greatest risk comes with success. As a "loyal" subscriber I'd hate to see this game go the same way. It would be sad to see the part of the game that means the least (it is a flight sim after all) be the straw that "breaks the camels back". Personally I'd say ~30% of the player base would test drive another option it it appeared on the horizon tomorrow.

Yah, I concur that although stuff happens that often LOOKS like hacking, that sort of thing simply cant happen in AH--but it doesnt change the axiom that, if you are gonna do something at all, do it correctly.There are quirky things that happen, TOO often to be ignored. I wouldnt expect AH to commit badly needed resources to piddle with gv model in AH1, but I DAMN sure expect them to do same for AH2. I really dont think I would stay here for AH2 if that part of game remained same.

Well GV are essential whether or not you use GV's at all. Now I'll admit every now and then I use a GV but I'm mostly a pilot. But reall pilots had to watch out for attack from the ground aswell as the air, it makes game that much more realistic. And besides I used a M3 to captured a base because it's a alot more stleathy. If I'd used a C47 I'd been spoted and killed plus M3's can defend themselves if they are spoted.

Ground Vehicles have long had issues. Maybe they'll be fixed in AH2, maybe not.
The whole "I shot playerX Y times in the back from Z yards and then he turned around and killed me in one shot!" argument is strictly lag-based I think. What I think happens is some guy on a crap modem hops in a tank... trundles along, gets bushwhacked... You pop a round into him, you see a flash, you send a packet to HTC server saying "Hey, playerX just took a 75mm AP round to the rear"... HTC server sends to playerX... HTC server sends to player X.... HTC server sends to playerX... packet gets dropped. Rinse wash and repeat. He finally notices you, turns the turret around. HTC server sends your computer a packet saying "You just got hit in the head by a 75mm AP shell". Your computer says "Ok, thanks". You go boom.
I am absolutely convinced that dropping packets will render some GVs practically invulnerable as long as the guy has a crappy connection.
The shooting through walls thing is an incredibly old bug. You can shoot through buildings and hit vehicles behind them. Usually due to clipping issues you can SEE through buildings to know where to aim... thus all the "hacker" cries. It is a bug, people take advantage of it.
As far as "Player X hit me from 324526247625 yards with the first shot and killed me! Yea... some people ARE that good. It takes a lot of practice shooting the tank guns, but it is possible to land hits of 7k+ (or so I am given to understand, my max is probably about 4k). Adjust the sight upwards, fire a ranging shot.. see where it lands, then use the range bars appropriately. Plus if some tool is camping a ridge or a spawn... he has more than likely got that spot zeroed in. He knows exactly how far it is to you when you peek your little head over that ridge... so he knows how far to shoot to drop a shell on it.
As far as the damage modelling... yea, it is broken. It has been conclusively proven that the Panzer IV is far more vulnerable to strafing than it ever was in real life. The Tiger de-track epilepsy dance has been around since it was introduced. The M-8 is just worthless, as is the M-16.
But as has been said so many times over the years... this is a flight sim. Ground Vehicles were put in for fun. If you are a hyper-realism freak like me, you won't like the GVs. But most people don't care that in real life the Panzer IV was all but immune to Hizookas and .50s. They want to point their Spitfire at a tank and watch it blow up.

The trick is to put your mouse over where you just fired for the long range shots.
That way you have something to judge off of.
