this is my only concern I have left to gripe about with ah2. every other concern i had has been eliminated. planeset is full sky looks great. fog has been lifted. the new clouds are excellent.
but the terrain is so dark and low contrast even with bumpmapping off.
things are pretty dark at high noon and when the sun gets lower it gets really dark!
this is what we see most when flying. the terrain and the sky. and its just not nice to look at the terrain in its current state.
ive heard players saying it looks like transylvania.
to me it seems like the sun in aces high burned out and stopped shining.
its a kneejerk reaction but every time i log in to ah2 and fly "ick" is the first thing i think when i see the terrain lighting.
weather it be adjusting the terrain bitmaps or changing the actual lighting code somthing needs to be done.
again, they sky looks great
the planes hold up ok even with being very dark
but the terrain is a dark and eery unnatural looking monotone dreery place.
please add contrast and lighting to it.
upping the gamma does not cut it. it washes everything out and though lighter it just looks worse.
i want it to be as bright as the ozkansas map at default gamma settings please.

I though this version was a little brighter than the rest. I think bump mapping is the culperate and since it is disabled this version, the terrain feels better. I dunno, I'll go take a screenie and post... lets compare. It looks just like Wotan's screenie from his "WoW" post.

what id like to see is terrain as bright as the ozkansas map or on baltic map.

Agree, terrain is too dark.
On another thread I posted that CTD when increase graphics detail settings which in default are around the middle.
Did that because I found the rolling curtain of terrain detail disconcerting.

Right, I agree.
So it's not the lighting but the choice of terrain tile colors? or.. ?

I'm all for 'brighter' lighting if possible. This pic doesn't seem as dark as the previous versions though.
