Title: Warbirds
Post by: Reilly on March 30, 2004, 03:15:21 PM
Hi All

Hello to all ex warbird pilots It appears with the switch to AH from WBs 2.77 by Wings of Death, that the Avengers may follow
Just a few  questions we were wanting to know,1 is there easy mode and real mode available      2 How do the graphics compair to WBs 2.77      3 Are there any connex problems for pilots from UK and Aussie land ( ie pingrate)  Any answers to these questions would be most helpful in making up our minds,It would be helpful if ex WBs 2.77 pilots could participate in these answers

1)  there is not easy mode, but you can enable auto takeoff and combat trim.
2) download it and compare the graphics.
3)  in the US, conx are very smooth, don't know about UK.

Flew Warbirds mostly as "Ghostt" from 96
to 2000. First 2 years mostly H2H & Fighter Ops, last 2 years mostly Online main & HA.

While there is no "easy mode" per se, there are a couple of things that new pilots can use to help get them up & flying.

Stall limiter, while this works in the main it is only available forthe first month. Then turns itself off.  While this may prevent stalling it gives NO advantage in a stall fight, as it hobbles controls too severely.

Combat Trim is used to help keep your plane trimmed all the time. Does this by accessing a list of trim settings for given speeds per aircraft. CT is in common use, and again is not used by good pilots. You can do a better job with manual trim, or even the autotrim.
While helpfull again this prevents you from reaching the full potential of control available.

Graphics are very comparable, perhaps better.  Come try it for 2 weeks. Its free, see for yourself.

Not being from down under I'm afraid I can give you no help on connect issues.

However if you have questions I would suggest you contact HTC's net guru.
skuzzy@hitecreations.com

He'll be able to let you know what the score is better than I can.

Also you should be aware AH2 is (IMO) getting close. Now would be a good time to make the jump. Improved graphics, terrain, flight, damage, gunnery model.

Last, as the AH lead trainer, if there is any way in which I can help smooth your transition, you need only to ask.

billj69@btinet.net

Hope to see you up soon

I know the stall limiter worked for me for 3 months before I turned it off manually.

It never turned off automatically.

Rooks are considered "alt monkeys"
nites are the "underdogs...and  "ussually" dont cooperate with each other" however they fight like corned badgers
Bishops: well they are bishops ...default cntry for newbies big on base capture with horde< not to be confused with the MASSIVE RJO HORDE the Rooks have on sunday nights>

RJO=rook joint ops

Hi Reilly,

101 "Red" Sqn, Israel also made the move from WB 2.77 to Aces High. Actually, when WB 3 came out, we gave it a try, but were disapointed, so we moved over here to Aces High which is alot closer to the spirit of Warbirds as it was created. The move was a bit painfull, since we had to say goodbye to the MAC players (Aces High is coded only for the PC).

We have players from the UK and from Israel, the connections are rock solid. I know of an Aces High player whose from New Zealand - I think its Vulcan, you can ask him about how good his connection is. If I remember correctly it was quite good, as he's an excellent pilot, especially in the Typhoon...

If you guys need any help at all, don't hesitate to ask, we'd be glad to help out with any questions you might have while flying....
You can find the 101 Sqn pilots flying with the Rooks.

Speaking of the Avengers, are you guys familiar with a pilot called ?  is he still around ?

WELCOME!!!

You will definitely find MORE WarBirders here then in WarBirds.

I was there with the 157th Swamp Foxes, then with the 31st FG and daddy= for a total of 6 years.  I am not so sure why I waited so long.

500-600 in the MA 7-9 PM US.  Heck, there's usaully 300 on Sunday 9 AM EST :)

Yup a bit different and everything has it's problems and problem children :)  I'll bet you'll like it

Atmosphere is not jello.  You will feel like your flying in helium for a while.

Your gonna need to re-tweak your joysticks.  100% across the board ain't gonna work!

The joystick mapper is a PIA for newbie's......patience!!

In-game comms are good....most of the time.  Turn hardware acceleration down to Standard or Basic in dxdiag.

CYA Up!

Hello Reilly, :)

The WoD is having a blast in AH.  The number of available options are overwhelming at first glance, but definately maintainable within a very short period of time.  I had a very long talk with Stoesy and Butch yesterday morning via RW and gave them a lot of information about AH.  I will gladly do the same for any of the Avengers.  I don't know it all, as I have been in the game for less than 2 weeks, myself, but I do know the things that made it easier for us to make the adjustment.  Don't hesitate to look me up in AH Main Arena, you can private message in the same manner as in WB 2.77 (my callsign is Mystic99).  I will gladly help yall out in any way that I can.  Should I not be in the game or should you have very detailed or lengthy questions, don't hesitate to email me at...

wingsofdeath@hotmail.com

I will reply back as soon as I possibly can with the answers, and you can forward them to all of the Avengers.

I know greyarea and a couple others from Ireland have been flying for years with no problem and there is a pretty big UK group (flossy etc). I didn't fly WB much...a bit in 97 I think...but transition should be 3-4 hours of stick time. I was one of the original trainers here and worked with 15-20 guys converting from WB's...they flopped around a bit early on but within an hour or two they were back to 85% or so...

Another couple hours and you could gage exactly where they fell in the pecking order...the really good ones could hold there own or wax me...most were competitive and the baby seals were still baby seals.

Get your squad togeather and go fly in DA 1 vs 1 2 vs 2 etc for an hour or two. I think you'll find you get up to speed much quicker than you might think.

Added at edit: Truthfully the flight model will be the easiest part of the change...flying in a 600+ person enviornment will be a tougher nut. SA is much much more important than ACM in the main arena here...probablt the opposite of what your used to in WB's.

Get your whole squad in on AH2 early.  It's the wave of the future with HTC and it looks great so far, even unfinished.  The more you run the beta, even doing squad nights with the beta, the better it will be for your squad when AH2 hits primetime.  Sure, beta testing can be frustrating but now is a great time to transition to AH and AH2 because AH2 beta is far enough along to start actually using it.  Skins, learning the new FE, new features, etc. area all things that a good AH2 player will need to know.  You guys just might report a bug and make the game better for everyone.
