THE FRENCH WAR FOR OIL:
By KENNETH R. TIMMERMAN
New York Post
March 16, 2004
MANY Americans are convinced even today that the war in Iraq was all about oil. And they're right - but oil was the key for French President Jacques Chirac, not for the United States.
In documents I obtained during an investigation of the French relationship to Saddam Hussein, the French interest in maintaining Saddam Hussein in power was spelled out in excruciating detail. The price tag: close to $100 billion. That was what French oil companies stood to profit in the first seven years of their exclusive oil arrangements - had Saddam remained in power.

That's news? Germany, Russia, all wanted to develop their oil fields. But we found a reason to go in and do it ourselves.;)

You mean European politicians are controlled by corporations just as much as US politicians? And European citizens are swayed by their leader's propaganda just as much as American citizens? THAT'S UNPOSSIBLE!

For some odd reason, I remember saying this a while back...

I have always found the euro/pacifist "NO WAR FOR OIL" signs very funny. I suppose the euros literaly meant "NO WAR, FOR OIL."

No money down?
I told them to change these signs on my cards.
No, Money Down!

Kenneth R. Timmerman is a senior writer for Insight magazine. His book "The French Betrayal of America" is just out.

Do you know that Russian companies like Lukoil recently got back their contracts abandoned by Saddam in winter 2002/2003?
It's interesting to compare what is declared to what really goes on.
