Would ARC be Aircraft Resource Center?  If it is I've wondered the same thing myself.

You build models Shane?

yeah, just getting back into the hobby.  i have a semi-ambitious goal of trying to model all the AH planes (Ah2 ones since the officially approved skins will make it somewhat easier to find decals).

here's a list of ah1 "pilots"  as an aside...

http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95562

been slowly acquiring the necessary kits, some i'm still looking for.

i do think it is sabre as the ARC sabre uses the same avatard.

I just joined ARC, FSM and Hyperscale in late feb. mostly just reading for references, tips and stuff. tip: i'm *not* shane there. :)

if i ever get around to getting a digi-cam, i'll post some pix of my workspace and finished models (when i get around to actually finishing them  )

always had an interest in ww2 props, god knows how many i blew up with firecrackers years ago.   with the occasional car thrown in for good measure.

currently working on 2 cheapo monograms to brush up on techniques with NMF and cameoflauge. a p-51 and p-47.

who knows, maybe in a year or 2 i'll attend a con and give some to HTC as a bribe to allow me to continue to be shane. :p  or offer some as a door prize or for sale.  or just hang on to them all and in 10-20 years offer the collection for an insane price for some nostalgia freaks.

in any case, it's a fun hobby.

here's my stash so far (all 1/48):

3 revell razorback jugs for practicing stuff on. one will become the d-10 jug.

2 revell 51d's - also for practice.

one revell p-38j to perfect my alcad2 nmf  skills on.

when i get "serious" i want my painting skills to be as good as i can get them, both airbrush and regular brush (detail work). the paintjob makes or breaks a model, imho.

now for the "AH" planes...

revell:
ju88-a4 (promodeler)

Hasegawa:
p51d
p38L
p47d25 (2) - i have the brazilian aftermarket decals, the 2nd will be to model a jug flown by a guy who flew them in italy in ww2, earl miller (he played Aw3, too which is how i "met" him, and posts on another forum i frequent - bigweek)

Tamiya:
f4f-4
f4u-1a

Fujimi:
110b/c

hobbycraft:
hurri2 - can be built as b/c/d model, probably go with the d.

academy:
la7 (but want the gavia, 3 cannon option) can be either la5/7.

accurate minitures:
sbd-5
tbm-3
p51b

amt/ertl:
a20b/c
a20g

airfix:
mosq VI

the hardest kits i think to find will be the yak9u and la5fn (unless i use the academy la7 as a 5) and maybe the FM2. i'm basically starting out with the american iron. the most expensive will probably be the lancaster.

for chits and grins, i also picked up the revell pby-5 (who could resist it when it was 1/2 price?) an accurate mintures b-25c/d, and an amt/ertl a20j.

heh, don't even get me started on the tools and paints.

sorry for the rambling, but this was as good a place as any to sit back and take stock of another fine mess i've gotten myself into. :D

Cool, fellow model builders! !

ICM from the Ukraine makes a 1/48 YAK-9T & U. Can't comment on quality as I have never seen one of them in hand.

Revell's 1/48 B-26 isn't a bad kit and with all the aftermarket kits out there can be made into a regular museum piece.

Tamiya's 1/48 Fw-190F-8 is a killer kit. I built one as an F-8 and converted another to a 190A-8.

Tamiya's 1/48 A6M2 ZERO is an older kit but still above average.

My current project is to build 1/48 scale models of the German Aircraft that were to be on the never completed aircraft carrier GRAF ZEPPELIN. Got the Bf-109T and JU-87C Sea Stuka going now.

Would also like to make a diorama useing one of those 1/32 scale TYPE VIIC U-BOAT kits that are out but I can't see dropping $2,000 for it.

BTY: Anyone interested in all the kits I got in the closet for sale?

yeah, i'll have a yak-9t otw before long... no yak-9u that i saw anywhere on their site.  yak7u, sure.

I know i did see a yak9u offered by someone, but can't recall where.  probably an OOP kit on some site...

i'm also eyeballing the revell b-26, seems to be the only game in town for that scale anyway.

what ya got in closet?  I might be interested.

you can also list them on Hyperscale, ARC and e-bay if you really wanna get rid of them.  advantage of HS and ARC is you can either offer for sale or trade.  I'm working a deal from HS now for a dml 190a-5 with some PE.

i lucked out with an e-bay deal for the fujimi 110b/c. i see it going for around $16-23+s/h on the hobby stores websites. I nailed it for $13 + $5 s/h.

Dang, I've got a ton of built 1/48th stuff F4U-1a, F4F4, F6F, P-39D, P51-D, P47D-30, Bf109G-6, Bf110C, A20G, A26, Fw190A8, SBD-3, TBD-1, TBF-1, B-25 converted to a PBJ-1, B17G, Ju88, He111, a B-24 converted to a PB4Y Privateer, tons of tanks and other GV's and more I cant remember, plus a couple of boxes full of unbuilt stuff.

You guys are going to make me dig all the stuff out and (re)start yet another time consuming hobby. :)

Sorry, Shane, but that's someone else.  That is a cool website, though.  I used to build a lot of plastic models when I was a kid.  Between my best friend and I, we had an army and Navy that was larger than a goodly many countries in the world:).  Always wanted to get into R/C modelling, but just never had the time (or workspace, or money, or...).

After I got home I got out my built stuff and have a few more that I missed:

A6M5
N1K2
SB2C
Ju87G
Another SBD-5 (converted to a USAAF A-24B in the markings of the 531st Fighter Squadron of the 7th Air Force which flew A-24Bs from Makin Island in the Gilbert Islands against Japanese controlled islands in the Marshall Islands)

I dug out my yet to be built stuff and here is what I have:

Ju88G-1/6 Night Fighter AMT/ERTL-wow, wouldnt it be cool to have one of these in AH?

PBY-5 Catalina Monogram Pro Modler

P-61 Monogram-another one that would be nice to have in AH

F7F-3 AMT/ERTL-probably not bad for AH to have one of these either

F4U1 Bridcage a VERY old AMT (non ERTL) model which I'm going to do as Ed Olander's plane, one of VMF-214's aces, or one of Pappy's -1's

F6F-3 ARII

P-51D "Miss America" Reno Air racer that I am going to convert into an F-6K photo-recon version.

Now I'm gonna have to get some paint and a new airbrush to replace the Paache that I have had since '77, which I got for my birthday when I was 9 and just started building models. :)

Hold onto those models, my friend.  I have almost my whole collection from when I started building models in 5th grade, and my sons love looking at them.  The oldest and I tore down and rebuilt two of my '68 Camaro kits, stripped them to bare plastic and modernized em, and he LOVES 'em.
I just wish my old planes had not gotten lost and/or torn up.  My aircraft collection is pretty bare......only a Monogram 1:48 B-24 Liberator,  Monogram P-38, Monogram A6M5,  and a Tamiya 1:48 P-47D "Razorback", which I had to wait almost 3 months on as it stayed on backorder forever.
My pride and joy is a Monogram 1:8 '79 Pontiac Trans Am, which I have decided to paint just like the real version I owned a couple years ago.  Damn things were expensive new (the kits, I mean), but I cannot believe the prices these big kits are bringing.  I paid $150 to a guy in Minnesota two years ago, and the only reason I paid that much was that he did a LOT of leg work and located one for me, still in shink wrap, brand new, looked like it belonged on a store shelf.  I haven't figured out just how and where to display it, but it is gonna be detailed to the max.
After watching my sons go bonkers over the old models from my childhood, I am determined to keep each and every one of them, if for no other reason than to give them a cheap way to learn the skills of modelling.

Just getting back into myself, mostly so far just been reading and gathering tools.  Although I've compiled a few partially finished "practice" models :)

Right now I'm working on a couple Italian birds, Hasegawa's Mc202 and Classic Airframes Sm79.  I also have Pacific Coast's Mc200 and will grab their Cr42 as soon as they release it. I like the paint schemes on Regia Aeronautica aircraft.

It most definitely is a fun hobby, not sure though if I have more fun building stuff or buying stuff. :D But it can also be a very frustrating learning experience, but I guess that's what makes it interesting.

Off to check out a new hobby store(well new for me) this Saturday can't wait to see what I find there.

Good luck on your AH2 list of models!

My favorite part is modifying things, making custom markings and detailing the engines on radials. Every aircooled radial plane I have has the cowl cooling flaps cut out and replaced with sheet plastic so they are in the open position, its looks very cool and is a small thing that adds a ton to a model. If I do that, then I spend a long time on the engines, I add pushrod tubes (small guitar wire) sparkplug wires (painted sewing thread) and lots of other little doo-dads that are on an engine. It really looks cool. I also buy generic sheets of decal letters and numbers and use parts of other unused sets to make my own markings of what I want instead of whats in the kit.

Pretty much every model I have has been modified is some way so that I make it "mine" and not just slap it together from the kit. Man, Im going to my model shop tomorrow. :)

BTW Shane do you know of any modeling discussion forums? I've got a 1/48Hasegawa SBD 5 I've been working on for quite some time. My first attempt w/an airbrush. Right now though I could use some tips on dealing with canopy frames. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

as an interesting aside (learn something new everyday), I rec'd a fw190a8, so naturally i open the kit (AMT kit) and at first glance, i'm going... this is 1/48?? no way it seems kinda small...

take it out and compare the lower full wing span against a pony i have on the workbench... hmm it's smaller... a fw smaller than the already small (for US iron) pony?? is that right?

do a little checking, damned if the fw wasn't smaller than the pony. had a shorter wingspan by about 3 feet and a shorter length by about the same. did some measuring and conversion and i guess the fw i got is more or less "right" in it's dimensions.

learn something new everyday.

i guess the "master race" was a bunch of runts.  :p
