Title: For all those crying "cheat"
Post by: AK30Sopp on December 26, 1999, 01:53:00 PM
I flew for a few hours today and was shot down several times.  I managed 1 kill and 1 assist while being shot down about 20 times.  I'm just taking my time trying to get a feel for the flight model of the game.

Later in the morning, someone was on my 6 while I was chasing another plane.  I began to do some evasives while the other plane removed my aileron slowing my roll rate considerably.  I was still managing to evade somewhat for nearly 30 seconds when the pursuer took out my verticle stab and engine at the same time.  I managed to recover the plane with some negative g action and actually set it down in one piece (minus those that were removed) for a ditch.  It was my most spectacular landing of the day.

As I was re-planing... someone was asking who the p-51 was.  I said it was me.  He then said:

"I hope you enjoy the screenshot"

I don't pretend to understand the technical aspects of this game when it comes to packet delivery.  I do know this one thing... I didn't take a screenshot.

I have the privilege of knowing just how wrong this individual was... while he simply assumes I was cheating, I KNOW FOR A FACT that I was not.  I cannot explain what happened to cause him to jump to this conclusion, but I do know that it was not "induced deliberately".  For him to come out and say it was is presumptuous and arrogant.

Those of you that think you have it all figured out... you do not.  Please stop acting like you do.  When you call someone a cheater you are insulting their character.  Think about that before you do it.  Know what you are saying before you say it.

Bad connections all round today. Don't take it too much to heart, people just tend to take this game waaay too seriously and take every single warp or bad connection as a cheat.. sigh.

Sounds like a skilled landing, anyway. God knows I can't keep em under control without the vert. stab  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

So, he didn't say anywhere that you cheated? he just said something about enjoying screenshot?
Maybe he took his own screenshot of your shot up plane which looks cool?

Actually, I wish that were the case fishu.. but alas he started with "timely warp" then proceded with the accusation.  He was talking about me taking a screenshot not him.

I did not read into the situation.  It was spelled out clearly for me.

Well, as you certainly remember, I was the guy on your 6 and what happened that I implied you were cheating is in fact pretty easy to describe: the moment I started to hit you, your plane stopped and changed heading (so much, I saw your nose with blades turning). I overshot and saw you ditching. Till that point the fight was absolut smooth for me. Well, certain things make you say hmmm, and certain just piss you off. It was the latter for me, because I saw this happen already too often, not just in this sim...
I'm not taking this too serious at all, that's why I appologize if you felt insulted bar.

I ask you to think next time Xela.  If I was going to use a cheat.. maybe it would have been just a tad bit better to use it prior to losing 2/3'rds of my control surfaces.  You had been trailing me for 30 seconds or more quite close in most of the time.. everything was just fine.

Whatever happened after that happened.  What gets me is that you felt the need to get on the radio and make it an issue.

On top of all that, you still miss the point.  You seem to have your head burried in the sand when it comes to this topic.  You cry cheat then say you don't take it seriously.  I'm sorry, but I take being insulted seriously.  What happens in the game is one thing, what people say to you about it is another.

I can't help but notice that others got on private coms with me to say this was normal coming from you.  Maybe its time you started trying to figure out what's wrong on your end.  There is a saying "If it seems like its everyone elses fault.. it isn't everyone else".

So.. go on and insult the people flying the P-51 (I flew every aircraft today) and anyone else that does something you cannot figure out.  Once again, you simply confirm my suspicions that some people are just plain immature when it comes to social interaction.

...Oh.. maybe I should add a smiley face to the end of that.. Doesn't that give me the right to say whatever I want and then dog the person I insulted if they get upset?

I can't help but ask you to re-read my post.
I'm not saying things without thinking.
You feel insulted, that's ok, just as I feel pissed off when I think somebody cheats. I don't see any reason to go on forever. You think.. whatever, I reserve the same right.
And tell the guy who told you on private that this would indeed be my normal behaviour to go on private with me or to stfu.

Never argue with an idiot.  They will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I should have remembered this before replying to your post.

LoL!  DJV, I gotta remember that quote.

Don't sweat it bud.  Did you see the "dweeb" films I posted?   That guys went into a rant on open channel after I shot him down screaming that I do nothing but head-ons.  The review of the film showed no real head-ons but it made him feel better to claim that on open comms.  Of course, after his second whooping (most all of it from dead six)he got alot quieter. ;o)

I think these guys scan the bbs for any new excuses or complaints and anytime they get shot down or lose a kill they run their finger down the list and pick one to broadcast:

"nice warp, enjoy the screenshot?"
"try flying a REAL plane mr.ufo-uberstang!"
"stick stirer.."
"hey lord vader, is that your ack-star?"
"uber-spit"
blah blah blah

heh.  I think this topic is WAY over-modeled.

A short while back on the Dawn of Aces NG we started a top 10 list of reasons of being shot down.

1: nice warp
2: fly something besides the uber :insert plane here
3: Please relog, you are all over the place
4: Damn flying tank, he wont die!
5: man 1 ping and I am dead
6: Rammer!
7: MY "insert plane" is undermodled
8: HO Dweeb!
9: Gangbanger!
10: Vulcher!

This way we could reduce radio clutter by just yelling out the pilots handle and the excuse code. IN any case a good list would give ample excuses so we wouldnt have to hear the same old ones time after time after time.

DejaVu, buddy you are out of line here.  I suspect you are quite young. Xela was not being inflamatory but apologetic and friendly.  Chill out kido, take a break from the game and quit sneekin' coffee:-)  It will help your nerves and your attitude :-)

Yesterday, was really bad conx, it never had been this bad, almost unplayabe.
I saw strange situation too;
I was pinging some P-51 and got good hits on him, but suddenly, *poof*, he was gone, no kill messages, nothing. Accroding to my previous conx, I immedialty checked beacon (green), checked radio bar(new messages came constantly) and my country planes around me, thay seem to move normally.
Could be that P-51 had bad conx, dunno.

Btw, xela, I've heard you're cheating, because you're way overmodelled, I've noticed that few times yesterday  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

A lot of weird stuff goes on: some of it is due to it being a beta, some of it is "Normal" and will always be with us, and some of it is due to cheaters.  The fact that it's free at the moment means that there's no financial commitment to exclude those who just wanna raise hell.
Yes, I've laid in on the cannons and dewinged planes, only to see them disappear in mid-air.  I've seen p51s "Dance" in my gunsight.
Are these cheaters?  I dunno.  I sure as hell get frustrated, and I do let my frustrations show on Chan. 1; (e.g., "Hmm... Anyone else see that one-winged bish george disappear?","I got that one on video, XXXXXX")   I don't openly accuse folks of cheating, but I confess I've insinuated it more than once.
On the other hand, I've been on when I've had green-beacon megawarps (Bird of Prey style).  I've been hit and while augering AH has crashed.  I've lost my Hstab and, perhaps thanks to the imperfect ground modelling, managed to set the bird down and walk away.  None of these activities has garnered me the accusation of cheating.  Of course, when these things happen, I do my best to tell my adversary exactly what transpired.
The only time I've been accused of cheating in this game was for doing vertical scissors in a FW.
People get frustrated.  If yer honor is challenged on channel 1, make a brief defense ("you got me vstab buddy") and then take it on private.  If someone is then insistent about yer bein' a cheater, they're just making an prettythang of themselves in public.

Rosco:A short while back on the Dawn of Aces NG we started a top 10 list of reasons of being shot down.

Lol!  I got those printed out now. :0)

Xela,  Not trying to start trouble with you dude.  Its just that when we play these virtual sims we don't get the chance to meet and look people in the eye and shake hands.  The only way we know each other is by our handles and our reputations.  Especially when you carry a squadron designation on your handle you not only have the responsibility of protecting your own reputation but you are representing the reputation of all your squadmates.  So you can see why someone would react to such a thoughtless off-the-cuff accusation on open channel.  So in the future please give it some thought before slinging accusations like that.  I know DJV;  He'd rather knaw off his flying arm rather than engage in cheating.  Anyone who isn't a know-nothing newbie has seen enough packet weirdness on the net to know that warping is not an immediate sign of someone cheating.

So, before hurling a charge like that on open comms in front of 80 other pilots you might stop and ask yourself if cheating is the ONLY possible explanation for what you saw.  If its not, you might give the guy the benefit of the doubt.  Someday, you might be shown the same courtesy.

Regards,
Wab

Ok my last reply.
It's quite easy to cheat and from my flying experience it's a problem, not a serious one yet, but I have no desire to experience again what in WB was for some time common practice with certain squads/pilots. When AH started this problem was not present for me, sure warps, but not those as described. Please watch the 2 films in the zip-file, I used one of the methods not yet described on this board. I did it twice in both, figure out yourself when excatly. As film "offline" shows, this has nothing to do with your connection quality - thx go.. err HTC for gun camera, which I will use more and talk less  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) You're right wrt benefit of the doubt, but when in a smooth fight a little warp just happens when needed most, what am I supposed to think? I would glady be wrong with my assumption! I understand what you guys are saying, just want to make sure I'm understood too, and lastly I speak just for myslef not for the squad. http://members.xoom.com/iwai/film.html (http://members.xoom.com/iwai/film.html)

Argggggggggg.

Can we have one sim where nothing degrades into a slanging match?

WB,AW3, FC/BoB, Janes, MSCFS. DOA. RB1, 11 and 111 etc etc. Same arguements over and over.

Lets keep AH combat related eh?

The first online non whinge Combat Flight Sim is to much to ask for but at least lets come up with some fresh arguements  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
