Title: New Matchbox diecast aircraft (new P-38 too)
Post by: Widewing on April 03, 2004, 01:56:48 PM
I found a Corsair I didn't have in our local Target. Matchbox has released a 20th FG P-38 in unpainted aluminum and a P-51D in the colors of the Tuskegee airmen. They also offer a P-40E in the colors of China Air Task Force's 23rd FG. Also on the store shelf was a gorgeous Fokker Dr.I, which I didn't buy. They also offer a Spad XIII. What is nice about these is that they have fixed gear and the weak stand can be tossed out. Finally, I'll include a photo of the latest Jug issued as well and a few other minor finds.

This is the Corsair, an F4U-1A to be specific. Look familiar?

This Jug apparently served in the 9th Tactical Air Force in the ETO. It is extremely accurate except for the canopy frame, which is completely wrong.  :(

This Mustang was flown by Lt.Col. John Meyer, commander of the 487th FS, 352nd FG. Meyer scored 24 kills in the ETO, and added a pair of MiG-15s over Korea.

This is the 20th FG P-38 from matchbox.com.

This is the Tuskegee P-51D. It's from Matchbox.com.

This 1/72 scale Gee Bee R1 Super Sport is from Maisto. It won the 1932 Thompson trophy race piloted by Jimmy Doolittle.

This is Corgi's 1/244 scale F-4B in VF-111 Sundowner colors.

Gee Jester, when I told you I found a 190 in JG 3 colors last year all you said was that you'd rather build your own!!  LOL

Some of these have been out for quite a while.  Col. Meyer's Petie has been sitting on my shelf for over a year.  Bud Anderson's Old Crow is about a year old.  Same with my AVG P-40 and Boyington F-4U Corsair, all by Matchbox.  They make really good models for the price.

Yup, some have been around a while. However, Matchbox is offering new paint schemes on a regular basis. Likewise, they are doing Korean War jets and WWI fighters too.

There's a new F4U, a new P-47, new P-51, new P-40 and a new P-38. The older ones are getting harder to find. I have 15 of them, with two on order.

My regards,

Widewing

The one that I have (109G-XX) is Hartmann's.  Very nice piece.
