Title: Cleaning my Computer
Post by: BlckMgk on April 03, 2004, 10:56:06 PM
Can anyone point me to some links/programs to clean my computer up, mainly registry, and pop-ups/spyware etc.

A few weeks back there was a thread with some good tips and links, I just can't find it.

Thanks in advance folks (these things are driving me nuts!)

Ad-Aware for the spy ware clean-up. http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Google Toolbar for the pop up stopper. http://toolbar.google.com/

And I use EasyCleaner for the registry. http://www.toniarts.com/product_details.php?prod_id=1

http://www.endpopups.com

The best blocker I've found.  Its very functional, and has features like allowing certain windows to pop-up as opposed to disabling the whole program.

One other thing, be sure to go to Control Panels:Administrative:Services and find the Messenger service and switch it from Automatic to Disabled.  Then click it and hit stop.

This will stop the popups that happen when you're not even using your web browser.

That's Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative for XP users.

fill up the sink with hot soapy water. Submerge several times, scrub it with a soft sponge, then place it in the dryer on gentle.

don't forget a dryer sheet for that fresh scent.
