Title: which nvidia drivers for ah2?
Post by: Orig on April 04, 2004, 04:00:51 PM
Which nvidia driver should we be using for AH2?  There are reports that 30.82 doesn't work anymore, so how recent will be sufficient for those of us with GF4 cards?

I noticed a pretty severe performance hit going from 41.09 (the best for my computer in the past) to the 5x.xx series, so the lowest version we can get away with is likely to be the best unless we're forced into the 5x series.

In any case, please throw out a hint or two.  I just upgraded to winXP from win98SE and I'd like to spend time getting my joysticks working again, not fiddling with video drivers.

I'm running the v56.64 Detonators from NVidia's site. They ironed out my flicker problem. I'm still running Win98SE. Only reason I haven't switched is so I can keep running my old CH stuff.

I lose almost 2000 points in 3dmark2001SE and about 5-10 fps by going from 4x.xx drivers to 5x.xx drivers.

My analog CH pedals (attached with a generic analog wheel) didn't automatically detect with my winxp upgrade, but when I went in and manually added a wheel and rudders, they worked just fine.  Works under AH too except the 8-way hat on my saitek stick is only recognized as a 4-way hat in AH for some reason, even though it is calibrated as an 8-way hat in windows.

But your analog sticks might work ok.

the 5x.xx series is for the FX cards only. per skuzzy if you dont have a FX card and install the 5x.xx drivers your Fr drop in the bucket

I'm using 56.56 with my Ti4600 and I haven't noticed this at all.

For my TI4200 the omega 45.23 was the best until the 56.64.

I think 56.72 is the latest -- just got it for my Ti4400.

Im using:

NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
Driver Version: 6.14.10.5216
DX 9.0

Is that good for AHII or I need to update?

I just upgraded to the Latest driver and noticed a considerable difference in performance for th worst in both AHI and AHII

In AHI
Was getting a relitively stable 77-80 fps with occasional dips to the upper 60s before the new drivers

And now with the new drivers I get a very unstable 30-60 with occasional spikes to 80

In AHII in beta 19 I was gettng an unstable  27-45 FPS Which is still a drop form the 57-61  I was getting in beta 17

Now after having to install the newer drivers because of the clipboard bug in 21 I am getting an even more unstable 12 -25  though more often in the teens, with ocasional rare jumps to 40 fps

http://www.omegacorner.com

Get their drivers and install them in performance mode. I've tried almost every driver for my Ti4200 and those were the best.

You have to do the setup in Select Joystick.

Hope we findout which drivers we need for which card.  I've tried 3 so far and get blue triangles along the edges of the terrain tiles with all three.

Had this same problem with my SW FFB2 when my hat switch started showing signs of wear.

You need to go to (in ah):
setup > stick mapping > views > change front right view from unmapped to HAT1 UR > change front LEFT view to HAT1 UL > same for back right and back left.

Btw, as for the performance issues most of you are expiriencing with the latest Det drivers, check the global Quality and Permance settings.
Some numb nuts has left Image Settings at Quality, just stick it at high performance and then tell me what thats like.

The newer driver wasn't noticeably better, it's just the first one that wasn't worse than the 45.23. I just went to the 56.72 no noticeable change.

yeah ... skuzzy .. help please.

when i got my Ti4600 all sorts of odd things have happened.

fine with win98se

upgrade to XPpro (i KNOW xp sux for gaming)

driver up to 41.09 as per skuzzy. (told the 5x.xx are for the FX series).
XP says i have a Ti4800 (everywhere i look) where the box and 98se said a Ti4600.

get the flicker in AH II now

i never went above DX8.1b until now either.

FR not great with sliders just above 1/2 in AHII now. (mid 30's-low 40's)

my rig is an athlon XP1900
768mb ddr2100 ram
Ti4600  (or 4800 depending on OS and driver it seems)
40gb seagate barracuda as main drive
20gb WD is a secondary HD in my rig (only mp3 and movie storage)
MSI MB with recent BIOS updates and drivers.

i "should" be doing mid 30's FPS with sliders maxed out from what im hearing. i have ZERO apps except saitek x45 profilier running in the background, and all non-crucial services as per skuzzy have been stopped alltogether.

on my vid card antiailiasing is off
anisotropic filtering is off
performance is set to "balanced"
direct3d "enable fog table emulation" is on
mipmap set to "best image quality"
vsync is on

if i mess with the antialiasing i get hosed graphics (thin blue edge on lower and left of screen) and hosed FR.
if i mess with anisotropic filtering i get no noticable effect in AH>

what should i change to get rid of the flicker in AHII and these awsome FR's im hearing about????!?!

I Test with a ti4600, using 56.72 all seems well.

Now if I could only figure out the zbuffer bias with GF2's I would be a happy camper.

Any of the 56.xx drivers caused me to lose  around 10 FPS, from 35-40 to 25-30. I was using 41.09 until the clipboard bug, and I moved up to the standard 45.23 with the same FR as 41.09 and it also fixed the clipboard bug. I tried the Omega drivers and saw no difference fom the standard nVidia drivers.

BTW, Im using an FX5900 128M.
