Title: Stall Sound?
Post by: Downtown on September 30, 1999, 09:41:00 AM
Could like HT and Pyro take some of their empties.

Rig some setup to them involving Hydraulic jacks.

Tape a real sensitive microphone to the beer can.

Pump the jacks and stress the beer cans.

Record the sound of the aluminum beer can getting stressed.

Slow the sound down with a computer sound image editor, and then create the stall sound file?

Actually, I like the stall sound.

Sounds like your cables shakin every which-a-way, which is very realistic.

The stearman I flew made the same kinda sounds.

I found the stall sound in AH cool for the
first few times, but after a dozen or so
sorties last eve, it was getting to me.

The sounds in AH are .wav files and EZ to
change. I just went and grabbed a stallhorn
.wav file from MS CFS and substituted it for the AH sound. Now I have what sounds like a
stallhorn and not an ouzzi. Tho, for all I
know, the tin rattle sound may be correct.
I must admit to never having flown a Spit in
real life.

Maybe this will help.

Sorry bout that downtown  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I just have it up for the beta stage right now...makes it a helluva lot easier to remember what I have for a system.

This thread was more intended to give HT and Pyro an excuse to drink beer.

Though I wonder how you would hook hydraulic jacks up to a beer can to pull it apart.

It's easy!

First get three jacks, 4 pieces of plywood, a hinge set, and all the beer cans you can find (findin the best sound will be hard).
You should make a box with a hinged top.

Mount three jacks, one on the floor, and the other two on the walls.

Leave slots open on each wall so you can pump the jacks. Also, stick a microphone through the roof after you've set the can and jacks up.

Stress and record away!

There doesn't seem to be a away to adjust individual sound volumes yet, so I just used the sound recorder app in windows to load up the stall sound from the aces high sound folder and lowered the wav volume a bit, then saved it.  Vi-ola !  Stall sound is less annoying and blends better with the rest of the soundscape.

And fill the beer cans with ping pong balls.

Never forget the ping pong balls.... they are absolutely necessary to get the right effect!
