Title: Mmmmmm.....Donuts
Post by: Cobra on December 28, 1999, 10:20:00 PM
Ok...this post isn't about donuts. (Mmmmm...donuts)

Just logged off tonite and wanted to comment that it was a good nite to be on.  The most fun I had was the ribbing going on from all sides.

I know it's a flying sim, and we are here to "fly", but it is also a fledgeling (sp?) community and I hope there are more nights like this.

Anyway, very little whining tonight and some good-natured fun.  (hmmm, very sappy)  And when I run into any of you, I'll shoot you down..(that's better)

The point..As important as the Flight Models is the Community that "flies" them. (but I want good flight models!)

Hey!  I was there!  I was there when Cobra Logged off.  I typed "Cya Cobra".  Then I got shot down!

So while Corba was typing his message, I was in flames.

That is like, so cool!!  Huh, Huh, Huh, Huh!

Whith the emphasis on realism, I dont understand your "and very little whining" comment. I was a soldier for 3 years in the late sixtys. And I can assure you that soldiers consider it a right, nay, a duty, to squeak as much as possible. You should go play quake. They probably dont whine there.

What the hell is quake anyway?

Sorry. Mind drifted a bit there.

TT,
All I can I say to your post is.....Mmmmmm
Cheese.

Ok, I can say more....I don't play those other games, I "fly" sims.  I never said folks can't whine, did I.   I just said it was an enjoyable time in the sim last night.  That's it, no hidden meaning or agenda.

TT I was a soldier for 5 in the 80's. I understand your right to whinge  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Im sure the soldiers in the 60's whined a lot more tho, cause off duty they had to wear those bell bottom orange corduroy pants with the yellow and purple flowered vests and a big yellow button with smiley face on it pinned to their chest to pick up the "chicks"   : (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif))

Curse you Cobra!!  What did you do to get the Knights all riled up around F5 and F6??  I dont think I EVER saw that many up at one time....at least not on our side of the mountains!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

That had to be some of the toughest flying I've had in a while, just trying to stay alive while outnumbered 3 or 4 to 1.

I now feel for the Rooks who have usually been forced to deal with a two front war.  Think we were down to only 4 bases by the time I logged.

It wasnt the civvies so much, as how you looked in them with a GI haircut.

And that smiley thing didnt come along till years later.

And dont knock the bellbottoms. They were groovy.

I was one of the Knights flying last night and I had a blast!!  Lord, one time I took off from f5 flying my c47 (going to cap 2) when all of a sudden a big red BLOB shows up on my radar!.  Next thing I know there are 4 ponys diving on me.  I vainly try rolling to the right, and then my wing comes off and I'm falling. Next I took off in a pony, I stared for a second then fliped on my gun cam, because there were about 20 little blacks dots on my screen. I'd never seen so many cons in my life. I was promptly shot down.We attemped to fight off the superior numbers but were beaten back.  The same b17 that had taken out our guns was strafing (sp?) out field. f5 was later caped and we moved on to f6, and the ARMADA was following us. I loged off soon after this but I have to say a good time was had by all.

No wonder you get shot down when you do CAP in a C47  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Agreed there was definetly packed last night. 40+ rooks, about 25 Bishops and about 20 Knights (the time I checked). It seemed to be a pretty much all out war though (all fighting all) so no complaining here.

We (Bishops) was down to 3 bases at a time and 2 being Capped, but got it turned a bit and could start attacking F5 that Knights had captured. It was very loaded but all acks was brought down and I then almost drove in in my C47. Most fighting was some height over base so I hoped I could sneak it. As I was almost at base I saw a N1K taking off right in fron of me. I lowered wheels and started to land and braking. In the HO he took my right wing and gear and plane turned a few rounds before lying still. I saw I was only some 100m from Map room and poured the drunks out, by a miracle they made it.

That was a very lucky takeover. Left right after that as my throttle wouldn't come off maximum, so don't know how it ended.

Hoping it will work tonight

LOL....seemed a little different from our [Bishops] perspective!   After we finally got F5 back we figured we would try to take the rest of our territory back and make a move on F6.  As soon as we get in close, a WHOLE SWARM of Knights up from F6.  No sooner than I see the dots do I have em buzzing about me.  Salutes to Cobra, Ghoul, Zoomski and all the other Knights out there last nite.  Sorry if I cant remember all yas' that killed me but salute to all ya too!

Dingy,
Credit goes to Camel for organizing us down at F5 and F6.  He did a great job!
And though I normally fly Bishops, it was great fun all around.

Had a blast reading this thread.. even more fun flying last night. I thought I was gonna have ta haul out a fresh sack of depends when venom started with the "Ok; we killed yah.. so now we get yer wimmins" Spins on that went on fer hours... LOL it's STILL funny.

I guess the key is not taking ourselves or our immediate situation all that seriously. And even TOWD was fun to harrass.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I kinda like this new community.. lots and LOTS of great flying talent abounds here and a better reparte than abbot and costello could EVER hope ta come up with is par.

Yep.. gotta say it.. take MY wife.. please!

SC-SpOOk..

Well hell yes we griped in the sixties.. in many cases thats all we had ta hold our heads together! And I'd say we refined it to an artform equaled by no other standing army at any time; anywhere.

Yah gotta understand.. you see the kewl pics and say "Those were the days... " Hey; lemme tell yah bein a grunt in the sixties and early seventies wuz no cuppa tea.. gettin the babes to NOT spit on you fer bein a 'baby-killer' was the highlight of my return to the world. Nothing made sense; and it was hard to convince anyone that a soldier had honor.. and the words were passed; "Don't wear a uniform off base".

I decided to wear my Class A's at my wedding. It was off post, in her home town. (both our familys men had all served with pride and honor) My bride was hit with a rock thrown at ME. I spent my wedding night in jail. The horses bellybutton that threw the rock spent it in a hospital; and my wife was in tears for weeks.

Only amongst our fellow grunts did we EVER feel safe. Those were days I'm much happier NOT reliving. Truly.. we were 'Strangers in a Strange Land'. So yes;.. we could and did gripe.. but we had REASONS outside of reason. A tradition thankfully not current in todays Volunteer Army.. certainly not on the same volume level; and not for the same reasons.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Cobra,

For the first time, I really had fun last night.
Oh yeah fellow Pony drivers, If you see a F4U on a head-on with you, duck! Fool took me entire tail off, and kept on flying!!

I was sorry that I had to go fly with my AW3 squadron, and told them so.

As far as this whinning thing. When I first went in, it was free love, halter tops & hot pants. The only thing I whinned about was Disco. The funny thing is I still have the same hair cut, I guess I've grow old in it.

In the old army it was whinning, in Clinton's new action army its "Expressing your requests through other than normal channels"

In regards to the community:

The more static a game (oops SIM.. *puting on flame proof suit*) get's so does the community usually.
Best example is FC (i know that most of you folks spent some time there too).. so my biggest hope for this one is that it's development progress NEVER stops !

BETAS .. they have ELAN .. they draw community, and this one promises to be GREAT!

LOL..Towd

Really this wasn't a post about whining or lack of whining...I originally posted this because I happened to have fun in the sim that night.

Hell, ask my wife, ask the folks who work for and with me....I can squeak, yell, complain with the best of them...(at least that's what they tell me)...

Anyway one last note...Have a Happy and Safe New Year!
