Title: 1092nd Eng Battalion Returns home
Post by: Nefarious on April 07, 2004, 02:28:25 PM
Left 530 Am from North Carolina, drove from there all the way to Salem WV while driving through all the local areas as well.

I've seen my dad arrive in home from plenty of times, but never from a War. Until I was 9 years old when my father returned aboard the USS America from the Red Sea in 1991.It was also the last time he would ever return home, He retired the same year after 20 years of service. Back then it didnt seem like a big deal. But today, I'm 23. And as I saw the 1092nd return on a bus escorted by local/county/state police, even the FBI! (We have a FBI center outside of Clarksburg). It felt so much different.

I had a smile ear to ear as me and my girlfriend waved to the Bus as it drove by. I waved and every soldier on that bus looked me in the eyes smiled and waved back. I could see everyone of their faces, They looked thrilled to see much so support from the small city of less than 2,000.

I dont know how exactly to describe the feeling, maybe it was a little combination of the weather today, Sunny and Warm or the recollection's of seeing my father in his dress whites fighting through the crowds of people to see his family.

But I do know one thing for sure, It felt good.

Welcome home 1092nd!
