The lag and warps tonight was unbeleiveable.
When I say lag I mean somone would be comeing at you head on, they'd pass... Ok everythings cool. NOT... Before you know it you are leaking oil and every other thing, missing a wing and this was 10-15 seconds after the con passed you... Thats lag...
Every time you'd be on someone they'd warp.
Everyone was complaining... This isn't just my connection.
I have never seen a night when it was this bad. Once in a while you can expect a warp or two, that's just the internet and the way it goes. But tonight was down right out of line.
Ok
My whine is finished.

there's been much worse, take my word for it :D

I was wondering how the code is written, ie. the role that the map code plays in damage assessment. For example, if you're flying near a field, with lots of field damage in your field of vision, that's having to be rendered on your screen - and that of all the other players in the area. Is it possible that the "map code" (if that's what they call it) is working flat out and swamping the server? I became suspicious because the BBS is on the same server, and they had it down for maintenance this week, which gave me a hunch that they were trying to fix something to relieve bandwidth.
The OZK map was tested in its own arena, but there's no test like release into Production. That's the acid test.

Out of 2 years playing, I havent.

I'll back Morpheus on this one - I'd never seen it so bad. Skuzzy should be ale to tell us if it was 'net related lasted night.
I don't think I've heard of maps causing connection problems - I would think lots of activity on the map would impact your frame rate, not your connection.
-
I've only been playing for 4 tours, but last night there were periods where the warping was unbelievable. This had nothing to do with my system or internet connection --- in fact, my squadmates were seeing the same thing.
-
XJ and I were winging up for nearly the whole night, he'd be on someone's 6 and they'd warp..
he'd ask... where'd he go? lol...
We were seeing the same thing...
He'd jump all over the sky for about 5-10 seconds then return to his righful place infront of XJ's guns...
It was most anoying.
-
tied for first worst warping:
-the hosed bias code :D
-the day and a half when some internet company's cables went bad, vox + text just died, incl. kills. Latency delta went flat to the bottom of everyone's net status. Just about everybody logged.

Thats pretty mach what the conversations with my squadies have been for the past three or four days. "where is he now? He was just in front of me. Boom you are dead" For example, I had an F6F at D200. I lined up for the shot and the moment I pull the triger I start hearing engine noises all around my plane and the F6 is gone. "Hey, where did he go?" wellcome to the tower.
I've been in the IT bussines for about 15 years now. When we have problems with lag and customers complain we blame the NET or their network, or their computer cause you don;t know what other programs they are running, bla bla bla. The truth is, the problem is with the server. HTs line is always that the problem is somthing else. Its never their software or the server. When you experience lags or probs like that that effect multiple people, you cannot blame their connections, net, computer etc. There is a prob with the map or the server.
-
im gonna remove about 6 carriers form the map (the hq fleets)
watchign them in play shows they are always in transit to the fight so they will be the best ones to eliminate and with so many cv fleets being tracked by the server it could be a cause.
will keep tweaking till its kosher.

Dedalos, Your full of crap. We never just " always blame" the users connection.
But the real fact is 98% of the time it isn't us. , and is totaly out of our control.
If 1 or 2 users sundenly are having problems, but everone else isn't, You realy belive we should look if it is our problem?
When a problem shows up, that is fairly wide spred we start looking if it is our problem, if it is us, we state so, and do our best to alivate the problem
When somthing changes like a map and we start hearing about considerable lag change we go out and find out whats up. So exatly how long has this map been out?

since friday.
ive had pretty good connects and dont see much lag except one day when the bbs and everything was lagging but that was my end.
but i suspect the server might be loaded to hard with tracking as many fleets so i need to remove some.
-
Its the porn on the server, time to make some hard coppies on disk and clear out a little space!
-
I thought it was a new virus out on the web or maybe that sooo many people were in one place in planes and GV's at Furball Isle.
Yeah it was pretty laggy last nite. This 109 in front of me did the craziest zoom out, curly q's in the sky and then disappear, all in about 5 seconds. It was the best lag show I have ever seen. It seemed like a lot of people were complaining on Furball Island.
Still a great map though! :)

That's the same thing we've found out at SOE.

HT is quite correct (like I would say anything else :D) Whenever people complain about connection issues, the very first thing I do is log into the server and check to see how it is acting.
I log into the game and see if I see the same problems (we go over the Internet to get the servers just like everyone else).
I am going to log into the game tonight to check it out as well.
By the way, you are aware a new worm/virus was released to the Internet? It has been on the news as well. I believe it is a variant of the NetSky worm that caused quite a few problems just a few months ago. This one is supposed to be worse.
-
cmon Fester don't reduce the CVs, if you do that please change one circle of VHs on kaos island (middle island) to a fields.
-
I have a cure for viruses.
It involves me the little nerd who made the virus a small room and a fireplace poker:D
-
i dont want to reduce cv number but i may need to if the number of cvs is related to warp issues.
will see how next map is.

Indeed they all did return to their rightful place. And despite all that lag they all managed to catch our bullets and fall ohh so splendedly in a firey ball into the brick wall we call water. Fun Night Tho:aok

I have a hard time beleiving that any of the problems we've been seeing are "MAP RELATED"...
The type of warping and spikes in varience I've seen while talking to Skuzzy tonight about it, only tells me that it is with the internet or my computer doing something in the background.
HiTech,
As far as you guys go (HTC Staff) This thread wasnt to "bash" you guys and your service which you provide to us. Every time I've called HTC, with a problem (which most often isnt with the Game even!) just a computer problem, you guys go above and beyond that of which you need to. Anyone saying otherwise is full of it.
Skuzzy comeing on line and talking to me in person about this problem is a perfect example of your obove and beyond service...
-
I get warps, but they are minor. I don't take the game that seriously to be that pissed off with a few warps here and there. I don't usually get them but if I do I dont go stomping my feet around because I missed a shot on a P51 and there goes my hit percentage.... HTC does a fine job at dealing with their customers and their suport is great. HTC I assume as been busy latly working out OZkansas bugs and AH2. I think they are doing a gread job
Also I'm sure morpheus's warps and puter probs are far worse than I have ever expirienced so this is not directed toward you. You are excempt from this :D
-
smooth as silk tonight, probably internet virus clogging up the cloud
-
Not fer me:(
Although, not to the severity of the night before. And Im not trying to be picky here.
I am waiting till the map changes to blame it on that.
And I dont even want to think about having a virus yet.
Don't these computer GEEKS have anything better to do than create uselss viruses:rolleyes:
And from what I read about it, its origin is China. Figures:mad:

I don't have any understanding as to how a map can cause warpiness.
That said, there seems to have been a lot of warpiness that coincides with the introduction of this map.
Of course that doesn't mean that map is the cause --- could be some other event that coincides with the introduction of the map, e.g., internet virus, etc.
As far as the map goes, I love it. And if there's a little heartburn with the introduction of a new map, so be it. It will be nice to have another map in the rotation.
Obviously, if this is a map related problem, it's something worth fixing.

MoRphEuS: I Didn't take your post as a bash. You were just stating what you saw.

100% agree...

I was just going to suggest that.
A wait and see attitude is the best move.
Personally I think its web related as i've been noticing some other screwy lags, bumps hiccups and the like on my other webrelated activities also. which suggests to me its not just HTC
My guess is you are going to see these warps in the other maps as well

I think you need to read the post again. I said when you experience problems that effect multiple people, it s the server.
However, since you think I am full of crap, I have compalained only about three maybe fouur things in here. Your answer, when I got one, came in the form of a personal attack, and blamed everything from my computer to the French, to Iraq and the sun spots over Peru. Never the game. It is OK to have bugs as long you try to fix them. Nothing is perfect. Except VOX maby (oups, my bad, thats my computers prob. Sorry about that)

Wait didnt Pfunk complain about how the map was laggy and you guys jumped on him and dismissed what he said?

that the map was laggy wasn't the only thing he said.
and dedalos just likes his scapegoat to be htc.
more satisfying than some burried cable or stuffed router he\s never heard about.

If you really think that's all pfunk said then you need to go back and read through that thread once more...
There are certain ways in which you go about addressing issues.
Pfunks way was a perfect example of how not to address a problem.
Also, what he was brought to the table were allegations of bases being bugged, planes being bugged, spawn points being bugged ect ect ect... And in all those allegations offered absolutely no evidence for any of his subjects regarding bugs on ozkansas...
My evidence was that of a witness... In this case XtrmeJ who was flying right along side of me, seeing exactly the same warps I was seeing.

forget it. My bad. I should know better. Obviouslyy we are all using the same burried cable and our systems got infected by that new virus. I appologize.

i think festers map may be pushing what AHI can do a bit to far...but i dont think he should "waste" time changing it... its miles better than anything else we have. We could do with fester helping to fix the other maps really ;)
