Title: P38 wreckage found off French coast.
Post by: beet1e on April 08, 2004, 10:15:01 AM
Newspaper source (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;$sessionid$FFEJ0WEA1NU0DQFIQMGSFF4AVCBQWIV0?xml=/news/2004/04/08/wstex08.xml&sSheet=/portal/2004/04/08/ixportal.html)

The wreckage of a P38 has been found off the Mediterranean coast of France. The constructor's number 2734L suggests it might have been a P38L, but I could find no mention of this.

Various reasons for the crash were put forward, including this one:

But one of the most enduring is that, at 44, Saint-Ex, as the French call him, was simply too old to fly an aircraft known to be difficult to handle.
Ah yes, I knew there was a good reason for why I suck in P38s - amongst many other types, of course.

Known to be difficult to handle? But, that can't be! That is in complete conflict with statements I've read on the BBS here!

Maybe HT should pork the 38, eh? :D

Yeah, but you're talking about the AH1 "dumbed-down-flight-model-to-woo-the-noobs-and-keep-em-sweet" version. Just wait till we get the AH2 "right-lads---back-on-your-heads" ultra-realism version. :D

Hmmmmm ... you must be privy to the development team news at HTC.

So you are saying that the current AH I flight model was "dumbed-down" on purpose by HT and Co. so that the noobs can be "wooed". But now, with AH II, HT and Co. don't care to "woo" the "noobs" anymore. Very interesting theory !!! Would love to see HT give some feedback on this theory.

Or .... could it be that the AH II flight model is more complex than the AH I flight model.

If I remember correctly, the AH I flight model watches 4 points on the wing, and the new AH II flight model now watches 16 points on the wing.

How much time have you put in in the AH II arena Beet ?

I tried the 38 in AHII off-line before my computer croaked.
I LIKE it. It's gonna be a great ride.

Actually I found the 38 in AHII to fly quite well
