Found it on the warbirdsaeropress. com website.
Great photo of Steve Hinton and the P38J from Planes of Fame painted as "Porky" Cragg's P38G from the 80th FS Headhunters.

A p38 and Headhunter P38 as well! Excellent! You're hired! :D
-
Very nice indeed, thx Guppy.:)
-
Hehehe ... got up close and personal with that monster at last years con. Got some pictures and some of "Glacier Girl".
-
I got the info on Cragg from the American Fighter Aces album and he was seen parachuting down behind enemy lines, but was never heard from again.
:(
-
If I remember correctly, he was a Connecticut resident too, Slap.
-
TY Guppy, just put it on work computer and it looks great. ;)
-
Image of the original Porky II flown by Ed Cragg. Gotta love those small intake 38s :)
I'd be curious as to where the info on a chute being seen was from?
I've got the 8th FG history that includes the 80th FS Headhunters and the info in there says another pilot saw the 38 come out of the clouds spinning and in flames before crashing. No chute seen.
Info I have says Cragg was from Cos Cob, Connecticut

Apparently there is something in the water here that inexplicably draws us into P38s...
Just found out you live nearby Del, going to be joining us for our next rib/wings fest?
-
Interesting to see how high that guy is sitting in the cockpit...
-
I'd like to go, so long as I can bring something to at least make it appear I'm a good guest :)
Let me know when it is, I'd enjoy it. :D

Trying to get everyone lined up. As far as bringing something goes, we go up to a place called Wood's Pit in Bantam,CT.... they have everything we need! :D
Its a smokehouse, so their hot wings are smoked, then BBQ'd.. its a taste you won't forget. To say nothing of their beef and pork ribs, pulled pork, jalopeno corn bread, and on and on....
I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

I feel very fortunate to have had my picture taken with that P-38, and with "Glacier Girl" at the home of "Glacier Girl" in Middlesboro KY. Had the chance to talk at length with Steve Hinton and Bob Cardin (Bob was the project manager for "Glacier Girl").
I happen to know one of the "Head Hunters", Ken Lloyd. I hear from him fairly regularly via email. He did not arrive until after Cragg was lost. I'm not sure how much he knows about Cragg's disappearance.

LOL well... it was an exciting moment hehe
-
Slap what did you give that poor fellow to get him so excited that he would look like a circus freak walking around out in public?
Howdy 38 .
When you gonna come down and take a ride down the strip with me. The new engine is coming together nicely. Another month and will be ready to go in and then the tuning problems start.
Sorry for the hijack.
Great pics thanks for posting them.

Sweet pics slapshot, enjoyed them myself. Yes a very strategic placement of the so called "water bottle" indeed. You should be ohh so ashamed to be caught at your "happy time" whilst a picture is being taken of you at the most beautiful bird of all time. Yet you stand their unashamed in such a manor that you have disgusted me, but more importantly have disgraced that there P38. What do you have to say for yourself?
-
LOL J u cant discrace a bird like that 8), Smokin GL with the motor and at the track ... dont break anything hehehe
