I have the demo from PCGAMER and was somewhat impressed. The AI seems to be pretty tame.

Well, I got the dreaded "Please insert correct cd-rom" bug/protection but nothing a no-cd patch can handle. Actually I had to enable my onboard soundchip to read the cd *temporarly* now it seized completely.

But the game is a blast! I play on *realistic* level - very, very challenging. In fact the best AI I experienced in a FPS. They use their senses like eyesight and hearing. They call for help when outgunned, they hide and use cover very effectively. They even try to flank you - with good success I have to admit. Plus, on realistic they have the same damage model as you. So best stay out of gunfights and try to kill em silently with aimed headshots. Some of them got bodyarmour, others have shields. They even use flashlights to find you. Another breed are the mutants - they are straight forward and fierce. You're really screwed without the shotgun. They jump like 10m and one or tow slashes with their claws are enough to take you out.

Another great feature is the freedom of movement. In the outdoor levels you can take whatever path you want - some are easiser, some are harder. You can swim around the islands or rush straight trough in a jeep - or try to avoid all contact by sneaking through the jungle. The indoor levels are more linear but still very atmospheric.

Greatest thing: GFX - absolutely stunning!!! On my Rig (Athlon XP 2.4 OC @ 2.3GHZ, 1024MB RAM, Radeon9700Pro, Audigy2) I can run medium settings smoothly or high settings at a decent framerate with some dropouts during firefights. You've never seen better use of bump-mapping and reflections. The lightning effects are just state of the art and enchance the gameplay. Sourround sound is very nice and gives you a real advantage while sneaking around the corners. All models are high poly and the textures are beautiful. Both outdoor and indoor landscape are so rich in detail that I sometime just stood there and admired the GFX.

Also very well done: physics engine. You can throw up your enemy by running into them with your car, push down barrels a steep pathway to run over a pack of mercs. Shoot up explosives and see bodies and parts of the architectures fly around. Jump down cliffs, fly a glider around the island, etc. ...

All in all the best FPS yet - HL2 has to put up a very good show to top it. The story

Runs fine on mine...excellent graphics, and gameplay...the multi is a real dog imo (the constant logging into UBI is a real pain)...

quite amusing taking cover behind a wrecked zero in the jungle....

Demo was very nice - real polished - a nice change from the **** alphas that companies are putting out as 'demos' these days.

I might head out and buy it methinks.

PS:  GREAT engine.  Really reminded me how much of a POS the Battlefield series is.

just downloaded it, you need a 9700pro or higher to run it decently at any resolution over 1024x768

I love it.I actually think the AI is pretty good-when you shoot the ones you miss will try to circle around and/or flank you.

Yup - and coming from good ol' Yurop. Germany to be excact. Those people who have it on their product ban list will surely miss something out. Oh, and the publisher is French - I know at least 2 guys here who won't play it... ;)

Well, anyway - looking out for the upcoming mods. Farcry rally will be one of the first me thinks - sure sounds funny!

Great games know no borders, Kirin :)

Just played the demo - I think it's fantastic.  It runs fairly well on a 1.2ghz AMD and a 9600xt at 1024.  I won't be buying it til I buy a new motherboard/CPU in a few weeks though.  I'm impressed :)

Game is great (MP specially). Single player story gets old real fast (once the mutant thingies show up).

Are you playing on the hardest level cyrano? If not - u missing something...  those mutants are a real challenge - each and every of them. 1 or 2 slashes and you're gone. And they take a lot of bullets - the shotgun is the only cure I know so far. Plus I know entered the level where armed mutants appear - OMG

The story is standard B-Movie science fiction, you're right... nice, stylish cut-scenes though.

I do not fancy multi so much (yet) since the netcode seems far from optimized and rockets/grenades really unbalance FFA for example. The maps are great though - and I like the shiny, reflection effect for the scoped weapons - no more invisible snipers... :)

Kirin, my problem with the mutants is the almost complete lack of IA they have. Most of them have very simple approach patterns, while the mercenaries develop some level of teamwork.

They are hard, for sure, but after you have killed the 100th, it becomes repetitive :)

This game has awsome graphics, sound and the AI makes it a challenge (eventhough I do not play in realistic mode :)).

I run it on AMD XP 2000+ with a GForce 4 Ti 4200. Settings are almost all low, but resolution is at 1280x960. I have a big monitor. :)

I can copy Kirin's review. Very accurate description of the game.  The levels are changing (inside/outside/dark/light). IMO the trigens (monsters) might be stupid and straight forward, but there always seems to be a mixture of mercs and Trigens and you never know when you get around the next corner if there isn't a trigen waiting for you, hiding or ready to jump on you or one of those with rocket launcher. Secondly, there seem to be trained trigens in this level now. OMG!

I'm at level 11 now and the fun factor is still getting higher. Quite uncommon for a FPS. ;)

Moot, the physics system is NOT from Max Payne 2 - we built it inhouse.

Glad you're liking the game guys! BTW I came up with the term 'TriGens' ;)

WTG Wilfrid, excellent game :)

My review gave it a 95 overall. The only downside was the less than inspired story :)

Great work! I spent 15 mins or so just shooting the shark and watching the results. Once I got bored with that I shot the chain.
Graphics overall are incredible. Would love to see a flight sim done to that level. I tried finding it locally earlier but everyone was sold out. Guess I'll play the demo a few more times. :aok

Cool!  Awesome job - I bought the retail copy this evening.  :D

Hopefully you guys will develop a strong mod following - that engine is far too good not to use.

PS:  Right before the handglider part, I had to satisfy my morbid curiosity to jump off the cliff.  I didnt make the water, but my bellybutton tighened up during the drop - the island just looks brilliant.  ;)

Two thumbs up!

(PS:  Fix MP lag pls.)  :D

An excellent combo is the MP5+infrared goggles...single head shots taking out a patrol before they know what hits them

Really enjoying the game multiplay but I can't play any further single play as the game crashes at one point.

****SPOILER DON'T READ IF YOU'VE NOT GOT TO THE REGULATOR LEVEL****

I'm at the end of the 'Regulator' level and the start point I'm at is right before you blow up the computer console where there is one merc and one technician in orange overalls and head out into the large courtyard area where the Merc's helicopter in. I can load this startpoint once but if I die and try to reload it ut crashes me straight back to desktop. I can complete this section and blow open the fan cage and walk through where it shows me the cut scene showing the mutated Merc's breaking free from their cages but then it crashes me back to desktop as the cut scene ends.

****END SPOILER****

It's frustrating as I've enjoyed the single player so far, not had a game make me jump like this since Wolfenstein. I'm using an ATi 9800 Pro 256mb card and used Catalyst 4.3 and 4.4 drivers, updated my Nforce chipset drivers too but no joy.

The other mild annoyance are the rockets in multiplay, been in a lot of games where people have just left when the rockets start firing as they unbalance things. The engineer's job is pointless after a few of these guys turn up and you have to be quick to get near these guys as they reload so quickly.

My system:

XP2500+  @ 2.2ghz (3200+ spec)
1gb ram
9800 pro cat 4.4's
nforce 2 board and using onboard sound

Fortunately I've never had lockups or kicks to windows, from the UBi boards Revvin you are not alone, seems most seem to blame it on video, but I'm not so sure thats the issue...

What you using for sound?  If you are using onboard sound, try getting just the audio driver and not the unified nforce drivers.

Worked fine for me, no CTD's or anything.

Finally beat the demo! It was tough. Hate the lack of quicksave though. It's a real drag to have to go way back every time. It makes you stop playing it in fact. Still, lovely looking game and it doesn't need totally top hardware.

farcry is ok. I'm having fun.  I get the really weird feeling playing this game that I am on a mini golf course. I guess its the ground . The palm tree and green felt grass give me the illusion.
