I have Windows ME OS (POS) on my newest computer. I want to install the latest version of FrontPage that will run on ME, but cannot find a reliable source that confirms what version of FrontPage will run on ME. I have found sources that have conflicting information. One source says that FrontPage 2003 will run on ME, most other sources say it won't. This source (http://www.bgsu.edu/offices/its/microsoft/sysrequired.html) doesn't list ME as being able to run FrontPage 2000, but I know that they are not terribly reliable as they list MS Office XP as able to run on ME and I know that the side of the XP box does not list ME.
I'd be happy with FrontPage 2000, if I knew it would work and was priced reasonably.
I'm half temped to buy FrontPage 2003 student and teacher version for under $100 and Windows XP student and teacher... but I'm too poor to blow $200 furiously.
I did check the MS website, but couldn’t find Jack about older versions of their software.
Any suggestions?

Are you just wanting it for it's web-editing capabilities or do you want front page server capabilities too?
I must recommend that you avoid Frontpage 2003 AT ALL COSTS. Some features are decent, but most advanced features requires that the web site be running on a Windows 2003 server in order for the extensions to be supported. W2003 server runs about $600 for a license.
There's simply better options out there. Numerous better options.

P.S. To get a feel for this oppinion, try to find where I've ever bashed MS on this site (I haven't). This software is crap and bordering on criminal with it's un-announced system requirements.

have to agree here. I do alot of web work (small site stuff) and FP extensions are a pain in the prettythang to deal with. You can probably find a better editing suite out there for cheaper. Unless its the server extensions your after.

I guess I should explain where I’m coming from. I teach computers at a K-8 Catholic school. Our computers run on XP and the only software installed is Office XP. My curriculum is just the basics: Windows, Power Point, a bit of Excel, and a lot of Word and Word web pages. Our school web site has a few hundred student-made web pages. The one big problem with word web pages is that AOL users can’t view Word made web pages properly, pictures never show up and various other things get scrambled. I’ve come to realize that I should probably make the critical pages with FrontPage to avoid such conflicts. I have FrontPage 2000 on my desktop at work (only machine in the school with FP), but I also do a lot of work at home, hence the need for a HTML editor at home. I want to keep things as compatible as possible between my home PC, work PC and student PCs. I don’t need to do anything fancy.

If that's the case, I'd stick with Frontpage 2000 at home too.
Stay away from FP 2003.

Ditto 2000, a very easy well designed html program. Try outfront.com, it would be a big help to your students. I use outfront to host my site. dd841.com. I use windows xp home with 2000 with no problems.

Or you could use 1st Page 2k (http://www.evrsoft.com). It's free, does a half-dozen different programming languages (javascript, html, xml, pearl, etc...) comes with 475 built-in scripts, quick table maker, and all sorts of other goodies. Plus you ALWAYS end up with clean code that works on ANY browser.

If you just want something that works: Dreamweaver ... preferebly MX, but pretty much any version is fine.
If you want to learn: Notepad, Edit Plus, vim, or HomeSite.
DO NOT USE: Microsoft {insert product name here}.
