So far, every map we've seen come into the game has one critical flaw! They all have an asset sucking sponge somewhere on the map.
Pizza was different. Pizza offered a role for every user at any hour. Furballs, endless milkrunning, endless furballs, captures galore, teeter-totter land grabs, GV fights that rage for hours, and what do we get? We get festered!
Pizza map was a creation of genius! It truly was a change of pace from the standard fare.
HT, please return AKDessert to its rightful place in the map rotation.
Polygons don't bleed, so what can it hurt?

Pizza wouldnt be nearly as hated by many I think if the skin were to be changed to a color easier on the eyes...

Yep, I agree with all of that. Sometimes I'd log on for a few minutes and look for a Vbase under attack, and go to the FG to defend it. That was a lot of fun! For me anyway. Not for the guys attacking the base. ;) I agree, Pizza offered the best GV battles - no other map comes close. And the air-to-air was helped because the battle would be between two bases, which is fair enough. No interlopers porking it up from a third base.
I shall be aggrieved if Pizza has been retired, especially in view of the fact that an extra week of the old furball/children's maps was added to the rotation. :mad:

pizza embodies everything that is wrong with the current "strat" system... buncha far fields with 25% fuel.. great map if you like to tour in a peeeee 51.

Maybe it's cause he can make a map that everyone likes and fester has never been caught in huge flight sim scams or cheated other players?

slo... there were plenty of fields that had no furballs at all on festers map. you had the choice to go there. Are you saying that given a choice.... people will go where the fun is? Are you saying that we need maps that stop people from doing what they want so that they are forced to do what you want?
as for living in the past.... I see no evidence of change. I see the same arrogance and drive and basic dishonesty that I have allways seen in the man.

There were plenty of other bases on that map. Why didn't you go fight for those bases and leave the middle part for the last base capture. Hell you don't even need to capture it, leave it as the last base.

I never thought I would see anything worse than BIG ETO in Air Warrior. (which by the way was also a total failure) I was wrong...
I understand the designers of Pizza were under very tight restrictions on what could and could not be done and I also understand that it had to be done because HT wanted to experiment with game play--hey sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. For most players, what pizza introduced, did not work. But I think it was an important map for the evolution of AH. I think Fester's map would be far less enjoyable if he didn't have a "what not to do" template to refer to...
But let's face it the vast majority of us are here to fight... pizza offered very little of that. The majority of the time you would spend "sneaking" undefended bases or trying to anticipate the "sneak" and foil the capture. Fun for about 15 minutes but in the larger scheme of things a total snooze. I also know that 90% of our squad would log off as soon as pizza loaded.
I hardly ever saw a furball on it except for a few CVs that would be sent into battle (as most CVs were used to circle HQ to protect radar) Speaking of radar--How much fun was pizza without dar? I mean you literally could not find a fight--each base flashing would have a single P38 porking the town or an M3 trying to steal it.

Few whine about pizza and try to make thier perception into HTC. Pizza has alot of fun things, Enjoyed GV fights at spawns, Flying thru cayons is great. What is a shame here is not even 1% of All accounts whine that pizza sucks. And some join bandwagon of it sucks because they hear it sucks on ch1 and think well I'll join in.
There is not one map we have that is bad. All have thier good and bad points.
Fester no doubt you deserve for taking the time to build maps. Your maps are built to your playing style which is fine since you designed it. Even you have no right to say some one esles map sucks.
Unless 2000 people come on this web page and give callsign and say pizza sucks I think ones calling pizza bad are the minority by far.
This bbs doesn't even come close to 10% of players in game. Most don't care which map they play. They are here for the fun and friendships they make.
I would like to see it go back to old way of map change every reset to dif map thru map collection. And only reset map if not changed in 2 weeks. The reason for 2 weeks is Your maps fester are the hardest to reset with 3 hanger gv bases ( we could go back to changed every reset if you put gv bases back to 1 hanger) then maps like yours could be possibly reset within a week. Now don't get me wrong not saying your map bad with 3 just alot harder to reset within reasonable time.

Oh... and pizza does indeed suck. Horrible map.. perfect for timid voss types.. the only good thing about it may have been the GV part.. I don't know cause I never do GV's.

No disrespect Rod, but notice you don't mention any great fights. There are aspects of pizza that are cool, i.e. what you mentioned. But when those aspects come without the usual AtoA combat then the map needs to be revisited.
If they moved half of the bases closer together or even on one freaking slice, this map might join the likes of festers maps, in acceptance levels.
If you guys that love pizza so much would realize this and help affect the change so that everyone can enjoy it then we wouldn't be having these conversations.

I have to disagree here too. Festers maps are the only ones that allow everyone the choices to fly anyway they want, because they were designed with that in mind. He even went as far as to accomodate others by moving the bases on his first map farther apart. So if anyone has a valid opinion it is Fester.

Wish they would post the total numbers of players for each map, to lay the myth that 'Pizza is actually liked' to the sword.
Its not scientific, but I haven't seen anywhere near the number of players last night that I saw on OzKansas the other Friday night.

lol saw pizza map full no one could get in. amount of players doesn't mean map good. guys on a friday wouldn't know what map is up untill they came in lol.
I heard alot of complaints about festers new map, true not as much as you hear from the few whiners about pizza but only been up once. Every map has its good and bad points I've seen great atoa in pizza lastijng for half day same two bases. It just depends on players in game. I flew very little on festers map but heard alot of complaints IE strat potatos dream furball island bullsht kills game amoong others. My point is play maps no need to whine or complain about map. unless 2000 guys say change it never again I say shut up play have fun.
?take a look at who is saying pizza sucks same 20 or 30 guys. It's like watch ch1 Its the same 30 guys complain over and over about la7 or spits nikis dweeb planes ( not same 30 as hates pizza just example) Those 30 or more guys are less than 1% of players.
Could careless what map is up, Ho, what plane others fly, gangbangs (happens to all sides) Could careless how high 1 team flys, could careless if spawn is camped, And I bet majority feel same way. Here to visit people I call friends and have fun. may it be from 35k bombing or spawn camping or viewing porn in tower.

Some people complain about the maps because they have valid points. Others complaion about the people that complain about the maps, because they don't have a point and just like to complain.
AS for the same people complaining making it look like more people complaining, lolh. Please. The brilliance in that one says it all:rolleyes: Was it fooling you Dred then you figured it out, the big plot. :lol
So Beet can't answer the questions, can you guys?
1) Why do 90% of the fields have to be a sector or more apart on Pizza Crap?
2) Why cant there be an even 50/50 with half the fileds a sector or more apart and half the fileds less than a sector apart?
3) What would be so horrible if half the bases on Pizza Crap were moved closer together.
4) Why would that be such a big deal?
5) Why cant this map be fixed so that everyone can enjoy it?
How about some valid points to some valid questions.

Well I agree with Overlag, WldThing, DREDIOCK and Rod367th. There's way too much whining about pizza, usually from the same <1% of the AH populace, and the same lame excuses get trotted out over and over.

How about some valid points to some valid questions.
1. As mentioned elsewhere, the flight time between pizza bases is about 6 minutes in a P47. If two sides were fighting and the fight was midway between bases, each side would have about 3 mins flying time to find the combat. Indeed, I have seen exactly that, and pushed the opposition back to their base. It cracks me up when folks say they don't have time to deal with that, but a simple check of their score shows they spend an average 3˝ hours in the MA every day in some cases.
2. Ask the AKs. They designed the map, not me.
3. Because then we'd have the same meaningless arcade fragfest that we have on the small maps. Believe it or not, that is not something that everyone wants to see, despite what you may read into certain BBS posts.
4. To balance the moving together of fields on the pizza map, I would expect to see fields moved farther apart on the small maps. No way will that happen. And the slide towards furballcentric arcade gameplay will continue. We've already seen an additional week of small maps added to the cycle. We've already reached a situation whereby some of the larger maps reset to small maps for days at a time. So the week when the larger maps are supposed to up just becomes yet another small maps week. And still you whine. I can see the writing on the wall. The furball fundamentalists won't be satisfied until they have everything their own way. The pizza map is the best map for all the reasons WT says in my blue sig text. And I don't want to see it ruined just because you can't stand to see it up 2 days out of 42 - which is how long it was up in the period leading up to last Thursday.

hmm... if the people who enjoy furballing say that there is no action on the pizza sucks map and there are 30 (I say a lot more) then that is more than 1% of the players... Why then do we not get whines except from a few on the other maps?
Pizza sucks map wins hands down for amount of people complaining about it. there is a reason.

1. You are embelishing quite a bit in this answer. Yes there are some trips that quick, but the majority of the trips are twice as long as that, and longer. Don't try to qualify/justify your point with examples that strengthen your position ... look at the total.
Your super sleuthing of Delirium's online play does not give you the right to use "they" and "their". Again, you are taking a very small sample and applying to the whole which is something you do a lot of.
2. AK don't own the map ... HTC does. They designed the maps to HT's spec .. back then. It is quite evident now that HT has loosened up a bit on base placement.
3. I agree. Smalls maps are a fragfest. Not enough room to spread out the amount of players that participate on an average. The small maps are over-saturated, and that sucks.
4. Where is the slide toward "furballcentric arcade" gameplay evident ?

I think that this group was more than statisfied with OZKansas and so was every other faction. This map is what all maps need to strive for ... something for everybody EVERY time they log in.
I DONT hate AKDesert ... I DISLIKE AKDesert. With some tweaking it could be a very playable and enjoyable map.
The "tweaking" would be to obtain balance and not lean towards any one specific type of gameplay.
What I do like about AKDesert is the "mountian" feel which no other map presents.

The slide towards furballcentric gameplay is a trend arising from an ever increasing proportion of time in the MA in which small maps are up - even during the weeks when another map should be up. I addressed this in my "small maps - a creeping process" (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=110465) thread in which you posted. I'm not the only one whining about this. Furball (gawd, what a name!) has a thread going about this right now.
Yes I do see that having a furball designated area as on OZK is a concept worth trying. (For new maps. I don't want to see old maps tinkered with.) That's why I ran that poll: I was curious to know who did what on that map, and the proportions of who went where.

Dont' bother. I have been flying this map since its introduction. Take my word for it ... it is not a "time" friendly map.

He made a statement and you used his stats to then justify the "they" and "their" plural to your statement. You must find more that one persons stats to justify ...

The slide towards furballcentric gameplay is a trend arising from an ever increasing proportion of time in the MA in which small maps are up - even during the weeks when another map should be up. I addressed this in my "small maps - a creeping process" thread in which you posted. I'm not the only one whining about this. Furball (gawd, what a name!) has a thread going about this right now.
Wrong. It appears to be furballcentric ... what it is is oversaturation.
Yes I do see that having a furball designated area as on OZK is a concept worth trying. (For new maps. I don't want to see old maps tinkered with.) That's why I ran that poll: I was curious to know who did what on that map, and the proportions of who went where.
There is nothing wrong with tweaking/tinkering existing large maps inorder to BALANCE gameplay ... key word ... BALANCE. I am afraid that there is no tweaking/tinkering that could help the small maps. They are and should be a thing of the past.
We probably could have had more big maps in rotation at this point, thus eliminating these small maps, but the beating that the map makers have taken on this BBS I am sure have caused them to hit the "bit bucket", which is a shame.

I'm sure I could, given time. But this comes down to figures of speech, which differ between the UK/US. You won't have heard of an excellent TV series in Britain called "Boys from the Black Stuff", which immortalised the phrase "Giz a job" - abbreviation for "Give us a job". The gentleman who said it only wanted a job for himself and no-one else, but "us" instead of "me" is a common figure of speech. Also they/their is often used when gender is not known, and does not always signify plurality of the subject. "The person withheld their number" is the message I get on my phone if someone calls from a withheld number. In America, the passive voice might be used, ie. "the number was withheld" - better, IMO. So I stand by my use of they/their, because Morpheus could be a woman for all I know. ;)
Hehe, sorry for the English lesson, but what else is there to do on a wet Sunday afto when a silly small map is up in the MA.
I hear many people refer to the small maps as the furball maps. Why else would the furballers whine about the large maps like pizza & BI and clamour for the small maps?
Still, we're in agreement about the small maps. They ought to be retired. And I'm all for balance if it really is balance you mean.

LOL - Yeah im getting somewhat lazy to fly any prop planes, so i jump in the Hurri rack some kills up, save up for a 262 - fly it, get a disco :( (back to 30 perks) ... Rinse and repeat :D
