Go get an education.

Ham and pineapple.

That's good on pizza, but I prefer Pepperoni and Pineapple.

:D
LOL!!

You lucky, lucky, lucky bastards.
It does suck. Big time. I grew up thinking in feet and inches, pounds and ounces, miles, gallons.......I bought sweets by the 1/4.......then all of a sudden the bloody government says we've gotta use metric. Kids these days are taught in centi-bleedin'-meters, litres, kilo-bastard-grams. All I have to remember is 27 grams is an ounce........
I blame the Germans.

ROTFL This is a good one !!! :)
-
the only people around here who truly understand the metric to standard conversions are the drug dealers.
you want to know how many grams in an ounce, in a 1/4 pound? just ask the dealers, they know it better than the teachers.
-
:lol
That was hillarious! Thanks!

Lord knows my wife will never be a carpenter. I have told her for years that this {------------------------------------------} is 6 inches.

Everything will be easier when you'll switch to the Euro :p
Torque : :rofl :aok

Noooooooooooooooooo not metric money!!!
-
LOL Funked :D

Just cant imagine what's easy about thinking in parts of 2,45368764327600098 cm
i mean counting to 10 is universal or what ?
But the Euro really suks i'm still thinkin in guilders
So it's just on what u grew up with.

Very logical isn't it :)

The joy about Imperial measurement is that it's easier to make mental calculations with it - particularly division.
12 has whole number factors of 1,2,3,4 and 6
10 has whole number factors 1,2 and 5
I think that was the reason why Imperial was made the way it was because calculators had not yet been invented.

If it's easier (which I really can't argue one way or the other) I wonder why numbers are in base ten instead of base twelve?
And as for not having calculators - have you not heard of the abacus?
-
Well I find metric easier to work with, even though I 'think' in Imperial for most measurements.
The point about the ease of division was made to me by an old carpenter guy I used to know. But I think it all boils down to what you grew up with and find comfortable.
The abacus - fantastic tool. I wonder why it never caught on in the west? Wish I knew how to use one.

Ravells,
Look at your hands.

Yeah...but if I did division with my hands, I'd end up with severed fingers all over the place!

About your wish - RTFM ;)

I have to use the metric system and the Imperial system in my work. Much of our access control equipment is of Italian mfg. ( great products) and must be well versed in metric to obtain correct placement of the units and so forth. I carry two tape measures in my truck. Metric is superior due to it's base 10 I like working with millimeters it seems more precise. As a side note we did try some french equipment once but all they wanted to do was eat cheese and make love to the Italian machines next to them. when we installed one it didn't work. ;) the American machines kicked their arses and we sent them home.

You'll never convince us to convert to metric time!

Problem is you listen to the government. Gotta be more like us Yanks. We are a defiant lot. and we just refused to listen.
While metric is ued in some areas. Like the 2 liter bottle of Soda (pop for you johnny rebs) Though Cans are still measured in ounces.
Important things like Beer is also measured in ounces and quarts. Though most rednecks would probably rather have a 355ml can of beer as opposed to a 12 oz can LOL
By and large our edible products are all based on the old system
In others its been completley ignored such as in the construction feild . Lumber is still measured in linear feet. sheetrock still comes in 4'X8' sheets. Flooring and wallpaper is still measured and sold by the square foot. Paint by the quart and gallon etc etc..
We may eventually be weened off the old system. but at the current rate I would not say its going to be anytime soon.
Personally. I blame the french
Just be happy we dont go back to measuring by Cubits... hmmm then again....:)

A wise choice.. :D

Used to be a place in town that did a pepperoni - onion - cashew pizza. I have never found its equal.
-
I think I'd like Metric if it wasn't for the cost of conversion.
-
doing math and calculations is much easier in metric. but trying to put those figures into a visualization of what I've just figured is next to impossible for me.
so things like estimating clearance to bring parts in, or finding a good area to pre assemble parts really becomes a pain, you either have to convert it all back into standard or go around with a metric tape and measure every area.
I suppose I wouldn't have this problem if I'd been raised doing it metric but I wasn't so I'll stick to standard.
and why doesn't America switch to metric? because we don't have to.

Ah, I see it's 89 minutes past 4. Time for lunch.
BTW, the metric system doesn't get rid of the need for a leap year. Nothing does.

times does have something to do with circles

Wrong! Let's live one day at a time and make every day Saturday! No more calendars or leap years! Who's with me?

First step, I believe, has to be banning Mondays.

Just end all 1st and last working days.

First ban the first two and the last two working days. THEN ban the first and last working day.

Do I get a hogshead of beer and a hundredweight of Beef Vinaloo out of this?
