Title: Setup for April 16-22, 2004
Post by: eddiek on April 15, 2004, 10:55:59 PM
Gentlemen, it is mid 1944............
Welcome once again to the Burma, where the Japanese and American forces remain locked in bitter combat.
The Japanese, with their squadrons of seasoned pilots in their nimble A6M "Zero" and Ki-61 "Hien" (Allied code name TONY) fighters, have managed to thus far keep the Americans at bay.
Equipped with effective but obsolete P-40E "Kittyhawk" fighters, A-20G "Havoc" low level bomber/strafers, and the odd squadron of B-26B "Marauders", the Americans keep finding themselves on the losing end of one aerial encounter after another.
But help is on the way..........
A new fighter, the Republic P-47D-11 "Thunderbolt" has just arrived in the theater.  Fast at hi altitudes, the big fighter (nicknamed the Jug by USAAF pilots) is untested against the agile, tight turning Zeroes and Tony's.  Will it make a difference?

Terrain:  BURMA
Time period:  Mid-to-late 1944

IJAAF/IJN: A6M2
A6M5b
Ki-61
N1K2J (to be added later in the week at select bases,
but widely available toward week's end)
Ki-67
D3A1
B5N2
C-47
All the M's

USAAF: P-40E (available all week)
P-38L (available later in the week from select bases,
then more widespread as the week goes on)
P-47D-11 (available all week)
B-26B (select bases only)
A-20G
All the M's
C-47

Players, please note:
This week will be ran in a time-compressed manner, i.e., one day=one month.  For example, each day in CT will be treated as one month in the RL battle that took place.
The N1K2J and P-38L will be enabled at select bases at first, then as the week progresses, I, or other CT staff members, will enable them at more and more bases to reflect their increased availability in the theater.  I am debating adding either the P-47D30 or the P-51B on Wednesday or Thursday, probably from select bases in the case of the Pony.  That is the preliminary plan at this stage.
Downtimes, numbers of troops needed for captures, etc, will remain at CT norms.
Thanks, and I apologize for the lateness of posting this announcement.

Sounds great. Will give me a chance to actually fly the Ki rather than falling back on the n1k :)

P-51 Mustang DID got to see action over Burma in Spring 1944 and they shot down some Zero.  I know there's USAAF 311th FG and 530th FG Squadron was equip P-51A/B/C during 1944 before they get P-51D model.

Please added P-51B to that setup as a request :D

Aww man... I'm stuck, I was hopin it would be a german vs american setup this week, not really into much of the USAF vs IJN. Eww.. But, i guess that's the way things go, at least add the corsair to make things like the black sheep squadron happen ! lol. Anyways, we'll give it a try.

The D-11 is superior on paper to either the tony or the zeke, but I think it will require a superior pilot, such as shane or EddieK to make it actually happen in actual game play.  If you don't have that kind of skill in the D-11, you're going to be easy meat for that better turners on the IJN side of the ledger, or your going to make 450 mph passes until we all fall asleep.

The D-11 in this setup wont be much different than the Tiffie was in the last setup.

Really an interesting concept, the plane match-ups look excellent.

One question:  Would it not be wise to do something to make base capture difficult/impossible?  Else, sooner or later, won't it be likely that one side has super-planes while the other has derelicts?

looks great

i agree that base capture should be tricked up somehow. or wait, here's an idea, turn it off and just fight! had a great fight goin late wed night early thur morning. about 5 on 5 and we were all having a blast! then some freakin milker comes in and captures one of the bases with gvs. result, no more opposing bases were close to the fight and everyone logged.

wow, you milkers are so cool. i bet your score is real good.

Wasn't an insult Stream , was meant as a compliment that you didnt need the pony against the jap planes.:)

Hawk, I thought you were the stat man. I was going to post the stats of JG54 vs VMF 312,  A6M5 vs Typhoon, and SpitIX , N1K2 vs Typhoon, and Spit IX, Ki-61 vs Typhoon, and Spit IX. However I wasnt trying to start a chitfest this morning, so I won't start one now. You ought to check the stats before you crow too loud , ya lil banty rooster.:p

Yeah I know... My flying has fallen off lately... due to the fact I don't fly AH as much as I used to... We are actaully looking into other avenues to fly in.

No hard feelings...:aok

Hey no sweat Stream. The first sentance in my post was a whine  about having to fly Jap for two weeks in a row, so I can see how the second one could be confused.:)

Personally I'm glad to see the 325th in CT. :aok

The flying jap for two weeks in a row is like a 14 day root canal however.:(

Post by: eddiek on April 17, 2004, 08:31:50 PM
Tomorrow, Sunday, I will enabling the N1K2J at select bases.
Also, I will enabling the P-38L at select bases.

Next step up from there is gonna be on Tuesday sometime, when I will enable both the above planes at all bases for their respective sides.

Still debating adding the P-51B Thursday sometime, will have to watch and see what develops in the meantime.......

Enjoy folks!

The set is working very nicely as a concept eddiek,  the disparity in the performance between the AC is a bit frustrating.  this may work very well in an ETO scenario as well

I've never been able to do anything but die in a 38.  Expected the same last night.  I was shocked in my ability to get kills in this setup against N1K's, Zekes and Ki61's; even in 1 v 1 situations.  COnsidering the last time I flew 38's in the ct vs. 109's and died constantly, I'm scratching my head, but I'll take it.

Eagler, I think you keep forgetting not everyone flies a 109 like you.  Many of us can't fly that luftwaffe iron worth a damn.
Title: Final planeset addition/modification........
Post by: eddiek on April 22, 2004, 01:51:10 AM
Since Thursday is the last day of this setup, I am adding the P-51B to select bases only.
P-47D11 will be "phased out" at the same time.  Doing this to keep both sides at 3 fighters apiece.  Considered adding the P-47D30, but it would give the USAAF an overwhelming edge in fighter-bomber capability, with it's mega-ordnance loadout.
Bear with me on this last planeset mod, folks........just testing to see how it all works out.

Cya up!
