It's fantastic that he beat the record (against England as well damn it!) but I agree with Greig and Ponting: he should have declared earlier and given his team time to bowl England out. Not much point being in the record books if you let the other team force a draw, especially when they are ahead 3-0 in the series.

Cricket?

Yes, it's cricket, Nilson
Was fabulously done. I'm so glad he didn't declare.
The Windies must have been so dispirited to have lost the series so convincingly. They were thrashed in first three tests.
They really needed something to perk up their morale and give their supporters something to cheer about. Lara probably thought that breaking a record would be better for morale than maybe winning a test in a series that had already been lost.
Not to mention the fact that Lara's decision put Lara in the history books!

I'm convinced that cricket isn't really a game. In reality it is a huge practical joke played on the rest of the world by England. The rules are incomprehensible and they hold these "tests" regularly just to see who watches so they can have a good laugh.

lol...have you actually looks at the rules?
They aren't incomprehensible, they are actually quite easy. Much easier than trying to figure out the offside rule in hockey or how to distinguish an offensive vs defensive charging foul in basketball.
Wtg Brian....he sure gave the Windies something to be proud of. They needed it badly after the thrashings they have received recently.

Lol MT! I don't know what you mean!
Here are the rules:
1. You have two sides: One out in the field and one in.
2. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.
3. When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
4. When both sides have been in and out including the not outs,
That's the end of the game.

West Indies (Lara especially), being 3-up, perhaps just needed that record to enhance their pretty ordinary record of late...

West Indies were 3-down, not up.
England hammered them in the first 3 test matches.
