Title: 109G's and scope for dive bombing
Post by: Fishu on October 07, 1999, 07:05:00 AM
I've read some about 109G2 and G6 models under service of Finnish Air Force, and seen picture where was 109G6 viewed from left side and in the description was about scope on the left side of plane, what was used for dive bombing purposes. (perhaps that big hole on the left side of plane, bit front of cockpit?)
Anyone else aware of this kind of features?
Never seen in any games it being working though.

Me too. Maybe because no one has ever tried to model the Finnish dive bombing version of
the ME109 in any sim.

That same scope is also in german version.
After all, those ME109s were brought from Germany to Finland as they were.
If I remember correct, the Me109G6 on the picture didn't have even finnish marks yet.
Usually only 20mm pods were removed of them if they had ones.

You're talking about the supercharger air intake? I haven't heard of any dive or glide bombing devices for 109, FAF or LW, well ok leaving out the 70deg colored line in the side window.

FAF had some funky looking gun camera installations and after the war equally funky looking laser gun installations.

I Don't exactly know where that scope were in that picture, but description said about it helping on dive bombing like was it about 45 degrees or some.
It was on the side of cockpit, didn't see anything too intresting myself though.
It was enough new for me that I did memorize it  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
Meant of it was to help pilot see target more clearly through nose.
I Guess it was some german made, at least it was 109G6, quite fresh one.
