Title: Power Failure
Post by: Morpheus on April 26, 2004, 06:55:33 PM
I've heard and seen many different things about this concerning power failures or outages while a computer is running...

Skuzzy do you feel this can cause damage to a system while it is running?

The reason I ask is this happend to me. Everything seems "ok" with the system. Did a few checks and nothings coming up bad. But... Just to be on the safe side I worry.

Generally speaking you usually will get away with a power outage.  It all depends.

The power coming back is where the damage usually occurs as that is when uncontrolled surges are possible.  With the ATX power supplies, they usually will take the hit and die leaving your computer ok.  Not always, but most of the time.

As cheap as surge protectors are these days, it never hurts to have one.  Your television and stereo equipment are more likely to be damaged than the computer.
Just remember to replace surge protectors once a year or so.  They take less surge as they age.

Ok well what exactly happend was came in the room, turned on the light and the light blew which also tripped the breaker on the fuse pannel. This so happend to be the same fuse that my serge protector was on which powerd my system. Tho nothing is malfunctioning with the system the time was screwed up when I rebooted...

Obviously this happend due to the power drop but could this also have caused unseen damage? Please say no:( Or atleast not likely:(

Thanks Skuzzy I appreciate the fast timing you have here.

I still have a few questions for you but I'll ask them over the phone.
