I know a lot of you like to have your kids play this game online. I think that is fine, but it should be expected that they are going to occasionally hear or see some unsavory language.
I have a few suggestions that may make your experience a little better for the kiddos.
1 - Squelch channel 1. This is where most of the worst language occurs.
2 - Squelch known offenders on VOX. You probably want to put me at the top of that list.
3 - Turn down the VOX volume when they play. Under Setup -> Voice, turn the PLAY slider all the way down. You can turn it back up when you play.
4 - Set your firewall to block UDP ports 2000-5000. You can still play over TCP but you won't receive any VOX.
As this is an online game, there is no predictability about the subject matter or language. It's like letting your kids watch HBO and expecting not to see nudity or violence. It's just an unreasonable expectation that adults police themselves in an online environment.
-
All good points Havoc, however, lets not forget that there a quite a few Kids who play this game and have an account.
All kids are gonna hear swearwords, you can't turn on the tv or radio anymore without being subjected to them. I think context is more of an issue in AH. Lets at least try to keep it on a civil level.
Just mho.
Cheers,
RTR

If your kid is young enough that you worry about what they might see or hear, don't let them do ANYTHING online.

I think the things that really bring out my ire aren't really game related. Mostly I get mad when folks insult the country or religious groups, or gays or different races.
I think those comments are irrelevant to the game. I know a lot of guys get mad because they get shot down, but honestly I get killed so much I don't even think about it.
Oh well, it is the nature of the beast I suppose. I just don't think folks should be shocked when the language starts getting bad.

I'm old enough not to be shocked by anything (ok almost!lol). What bothers ME , not my kids etc, are people who insist on swearing at everything. It's a litany of "f" this or "f" that g"d" this and "sob" that. Attacks at other peoples flying, or what they should of done or lack of "6's". I listened to a "seasoned" player berate another, with enough violence and nastyness as possible, over the way a carrier was being commanded. Then others joined. It was pretty bad. And not necessary. I recently ran into a group of pilots at a base and joined them for an hour or so. They were the greatest guys to fly with. Nothing negative. No swearing. Good communication. I was shocked and it was FUN. Which should be the point of all this . FUN! And in that hour we took 3 bases and had some good air to air. I don't think the swearing is as necessary as others seem to. But squelching does work.

"I just don't think folks should be shocked when the language starts getting bad."
There is no excuse for the language that we see being broadcast on CH 1 ... I don't care how old you are. The level of language that is displayed simply because you got killed is unbelieveable. The norm is to berate rather than congratulate, when killed.
Most that lower themselfs to this behaviour, would, in most instances, think twice about what they say if these discussions took place in person. It's easy being a "tuff guy" in this virtual world ... with little or no chance of consequence for your actions.
I am not shocked ... more like ... disgusted.
-
It doesn't cost anything more to be civil and everyone benfits.
Profanity and a profane attitude make a game unplayable. Even with monitors and auto-squelch the Main pushes the limit.

Good Sportsmanship is almost gone in AH:(

Wouldn't it be easier just to squelch voice?

LOL, this is great.
Start a thread telling everyone what they should do to prevent them from being subjected to your inability to not type crap on CH. 1.
Screw the kids, right?

Was that you last night all over channel 1, hooked in by that lame "America Sucks" bait someone tossed out?

I still know of a few;)

Oh yeah I came up with a splendid idea. You ready?
Ok here it is.
When you are about ready to blow up because your bad self got shot down and you feel those nasty words reaching your fingertips... Back away fron the ENTER button;)
Or! Hey I just came up with another briliant idea!
Or how about when you are ready to explode on range channel because someone didnt give you a check 6 or stole your weak little vulch kill or shot someone you wanted to shoot... Back away from the talk button;)
These ideas tho far fetched as they may seem just may work!
-
I must miss a lot on CH. 1, it doesn't seem all that bad to me. Every once in a while, somebody gets out of line a little but it mostly dies down pretty quick. Usually if you want to follow a particularly juicy exchange, ya have to open the scroll box.
If you think about the 5,000 or so messages that probably scroll by as you are sitting there, if 3 or 4 are somewhat off color, thats not bad.
Now on our squad channel, we get pretty crude at times, but it's all in good fun for the squad, nobody else is privvy to it.

I've always liked your posts until now. You are asking people to use SELF RESTRAINT!!!?? Not only that you're asking people to BE RESPONSIBLE??!! And if that weren't bad enough you're asking to people to HAVE RESPECT!!?? I believe some people might have to look these up in a dictionary.

LOL
I hate squelching people anyways.
I am pretty laid back. If someone wants to spout off over range vox and make a fool out of himself or herself so be it.
Half the time when I would try to squelch someone it'd take forever to try and get their name right and before you know it I was in flames otw down to the ground because I want watching my 6.
Ch1 is another story. I hate squelching it because I like to shoot the breeze with my buds on the other side. Joke, laugh and have fun. Its most agrivating when one person steps in and ruins the party for the rest of the ppl because he has no self control over.
I understand that HiTech and his crew are extremely busy with AH2. But where are all the moderators? I mean I see someone say something on Ch1 that a year ago or so would have been a definat mute, but they just keep on talking...
Is the lack of moderators due to their own misuse? If so give me the POWERS and I wont let you down;)

Better yet
Anytime you've totally lost your cool.
Your feeling frustrated, & want to yell, scream, kick your heels & throw a temper tantrum. Try Alt F4 works every time.
Anytime your taking YOUR frustration out on someone else, Alt F4.
Anytime your running someone down because they don't agree or see things your way, Alt F4.
Walk away, cool down, say high to the family, etc. Then when your ready to behave like a human being, come on back.
AH will still be there.
-
Yep, I did say 'screw your kids' at 2am last night and I was trying to find a constructive way of dealing with it.
First off, I don't think this game is for kids. If you let your kids play, you have to be prepared for some bad language.
Secondly, it was typed and not on vox. Very easy to squelch.
Thirdly, who lets their kids play an adult online game at 2am on a school night? I think that seeing bad words is the least of your worries.
It is definitely unreasonable to expect gamers to police themselves. I find that the younger players are the worst offenders when it comes to bad language and insults.
Of course, I could follow my own advice and squelch folks that say 'america sucks', but that would be too easy wouldn't it?
Anyway, I apologize to Twitchy for what I said last night.
-
If you worry about AH then dont let them play games like Counter Strike etc...
-
There is no reason or excuse for the use of derogatory, foul, or abusive language. None.
It is disruptive and there is nothing positive it will accomplish.
Quite the opposite, all it generates is more anger, frustration, contempt, and causes others that were on the edge to go over.
There is no reason children should not be able to sit with thier parents and watch this game be played. If you feel it is inappropriate, then I would say to you, you are inappropriate. You cannot surmise a situation where using profanity or other abusive language is either appropriate or positive.
-
After an intense round of being vulched, sniped, or just plain forgetting to lower my gear on landing I will curse and swear. But you know what? I don't have my thumb on the mike key when I do it.
Nor do I feel compelled to type the obscenities going through my head.
Considering that swearing in the forum is an active choice and you can't really do it 'accidentally.' And considering that most of us know that there are young'n's in the MA, there really isn't much excuse for it.
I'm the first to admit that I can curse like a drunken Marine, but the fact is I can do it at home without broadcasting it across the ether.
To argue that just because you can't censor the net gives people carte blanche to be obscene, is wrong headed.
-
That is very true Skuzzy.
I guess my whole reason for starting the thread is to let folks know that there are ways to minimize exposure to the bad language if their children want to play.
I don't think we will ever get to the point that players don't use bad words or insult each other. I think it is the nature of online gaming.
I think the vast majority of AH players are pretty good online citizens, but it is pretty difficult to keep both insults and bad language from happening. I think just like using a web filter, players with kids can take a few steps to keep their gaming experience more wholesome.
PS - I just re-read my earlier post and I think I didn't communicate my point correctly. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask gamers to police themselves, I just don't think it's reasonable to expect that they *will* police themselves.
Also, I didn't mean that gamers should have 'carte blanche' to say whatever they want; I simply think that you will always have bad apples and good apples that stray to the dark side occasionally and you have to expect it.
-
My nephew (who flies under 'Canaris') plays this game mostly on the weekends has riden in the car with me while traveling through NYC so profanities don't really concern me in regards to him. :D
My real concern is profanity and poor sportmanship allows the community to erode further and does not help encourage new flyers to stay in the game. Lets face it, subscribers are the life's blood of this game, without them the game dies.

I must have missed that somewhere... I was not aware that AH was an Adult online game.
I think Skuzzy hit the nail on the head...
-
Okey dokey... I think I am done here. I dunno what it takes to satisfy you guys.
I come in, offer suggestions, apologize for my comments and it doesn't seem to matter. It seems that you hate insults and attacks in the actual game, but it's pretty much okay to throw them around in here during what I perceived to be an open rational discussion about how to help this problem.
While I don't claim to be an angel, I do think it's helpful to try and offer tips that folks might not be aware of if they want their kids to be able to play. It is apparent to me, though, that you guys are only interested in placing the blame for your poor parenting on the community, instead of using it as an opportunity to define what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior to your children.
Simply put, you know this can be a rather nasty game at times, yet you are the one who exposes your children to it.
So... have fun, let your kids play, do what you want. I will try to keep my language under control. The only guaranteed way of your children not seeing or hearing it is to not let them play. That's the best I can offer.

Ding! we have a winner!
Havoc, I have this vision of you as John Bulusi from the Blues Brothers movie, as he is hit by that ray of sunlight in the church. "I have seen the light"
I think thats all anyone really wants is an honest attempt to keep it clean and fun :)
-
People, there is nothing wrong with discussing this issue. If you have a contribution, then make it, but please do not attack another member of the community who is making a civil attempt to discuss this point.
When you do that, you are no better than the cussing maniac who is online.
Havoc, if you accept that bad or questionable language is part of online gaming, you have already allowed it to be appropriate to do.
I do not accept it. I reject it. It is a conscious effort to use poor, abusive or derogatory language on the part of the person doing so. It is also the conscious effort by a person to not act in such a manner.
Just as you find being attacked in this thread objectionable, I find it objectionable for it to occur in the game. You either chose to do it, or chose not to do it. There is no gray area here.
-
Fair enough :-)
LOL Grimm!
Anyway, I *was* out of line with Twitchy last night (morning??) and I will try to do better.
Now, it is time for me to fly and get killed mercilessly.

LOL, holy crap. Did you proof read that?
Sorry Skuzzy, but a perpetrator of ch.1 tardness coming here preaching parenting skills and giving us advice on how to block his and similar folks' ch.1 rants is just stupid beyond belief.
His point is that due to his and other's inability to not type, AH should have an ESRB of M or AO. Do you agree with that?
-
Furious, read my posts for the answer.
Also note, he expressed his opinion very well in an open forum and was willing to discuss the issue. I can respect that. Whether I agree or not, I will respect anyone who is willing to discuss an opinion without resorting to attacking members of the community.
I personally see nothing wrong in rational discussion and would welcome it across this board.
We have topics which should not be discussed as they cause more problems than a discussion would solve, but in this instance, I am glad he brough up the topic. It has been getting worse on channel one and people need to get it under control.
If in this, one person makes the effort to keep it clean, then it is a step in the right direction.

An occasional slip of the tounge while transmitting is one thing. When you get so upset that you let out a sting of expletives because you did a dumb thing and got killed or didnt look behind yourself and complain about a six call is another. Kids or not it just does'nt show much control or maturity. I'm no prude and have sworn on vox with regret, however some folks just have no control over what they say and should show a little more restraint.
-
In a game that is mostly dominated by adults, you may find one thing surprising: Most of the swearing I hear on VOX comes from people who sound under the age of 16. I was just thinking that, yes I know adults in this game swear, most of the swearing is coming from the kids.
Most of the personal attacks I see on channel 1 also come from the same people over and over. Not to name any names, but there are 3-4 people who pop into my mind when the words "kid in AH' come up. Those players are the ones who always complain when someone shoots them down or doesnt play the way they want them to play.
Also, since there is no way to "accidently" type an obsenity or "accidently" broadcast it over VOX I think there is absolutely no reason that abusive language should be used. As Adogg said, if youre gonna swear, dont put your finger on the VOX key.
-
If you would 'nt say it in front for your 6 year old, don't say it in the game.
-
would a 'voluntary sportsmanship' type concept work well if implemented at the squad level?
We have 94 in our squad now that range from NO VOX to WON"T SHUT UP.
Should squad leaders be accountable for policing the squads? or should mods come back in hot and heavy?
MODS did a decent job on the smackdown, but were very unfari and unprejudicial in their actions.
-
MODS did a decent job on the smackdown, but were very unfari and unprejudicial in their actions.
can you honestly say that and keep a straight face Havoc?
I have no problem being muted for saying something out of line and way over the edge... I think most would tend to agree.
I also think most would tend to agree that for the most part MODs do (or did) a pretty ok job at keeping the MA under control.
Skuzzy what happend to the mods?
I think we need them now more than ever... Atleast its the worst I've seen things on Ch1 since I've been playing. AH2 in the works or not implementing Mods back into the MA is a must in my opinion.
-
Why doing so prude hypocryt the outside world and television is much harder than online gaming and this.
??
-
It has nothing to do with being prudish. It has everything to do with being respectful.
-
It's just the fact saying "I don't wanna see my kids seeing bad language while gaming" is hypocryt
If u say so than blindfold ur kid and never let it go outside.
Not that it would look good if this board was full of crap talk
-
Let me get this straight, you're giving approval for profanity because kids shouldn't be sheltered?
As I said earlier;
My real concern is profanity and poor sportmanship allows the community to erode further and does not help encourage new flyers to stay in the game. Lets face it, subscribers are the life's blood of this game, without them the game dies.
-
It's just the fact saying "I don't wanna see my kids seeing bad language while gaming" is hypocryt
How can you say this bug? What goes for one goes for the other... There is no "hypocritical" way about this subject. What goes for one goes for all.
You cannot tell me that you are willing to allow your child (if you have one) to sit in front of a game or anything or anyone else for that matter and absorb the filth that spews out of uncontrollable mouths.
I had a bad night last night playing the game. (in comparison to other nights) I was swearing up down left right and everywhich way from sunday.... But you know what? Not once did I rip someone out over vox because I was sucking.
Last night towards the end of the night over A109 I was in a 109 with 9 or so kills in the bag. We had it capped but it was a weak cap. XJ and I were thinking about rearming. It was late I was tired... I was zoomed in on the town trying to see if it was down. When out of what seemed to be no where, HERE COMES Waffle in a... SLAM! what was that??? Hey watch where your going buddy!
I cant tell you how ticked off I was. lol... I think I was more ticked at the fact that I was getting so tired I didn't see Waffles nose cone being implanted into my skull until it was too late. And to make things worst! He was in a NIK!!! grrr I hate those things...! You dont know how bad I wanted to say something... vent... grrr 9 kills down the tubes...
Its called playing a game dudes. This kind of thing happens and no matter how ticked off and resentful you get toward the other guy or the other country nothings going to put you back up in the air faster than just shuting up, getting a new plane and not blaming the rest of the arena for your dumb mistakes.
-
LOL I don't know if this falls under irony or coincidence...
I am a terrible fighter pilot, and I have a stupid habit of wasting perks. At any rate, I have been on AH for going on two years and I FINALLY had enough to take up a 262 this week.
First flight went well, but I stayed high and just looked around. Last night I decide to go in and pork a town.
Suddenly, boom, I am dead. :-( ALL my perks gone!
I remembered my promise to watch my language, but if you could have heard the swear words going through my head, I am sure I would have been banned for life!
-
Got those who have difficulty controlling what they say or type when they're online...
http://www.tourettes.com/
No need to thank me. Just doing my part to help.
-
Bug ... why are you searching for some reason or justification for the trash and profanity that is spewed all over Ch 1.
THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR IT !!! simple as that.
-
but if you could have heard the swear words going through my head
I've been there bro!
Everyone see what Havoc wrote here???
Hey check it out... The stuff was going through his head. But yet it was not coming from his mouth or through his fingers and on to Channel 1. WOW...
Im not trying to patronize here Havoc. So please dont take it that way.
Amazing tho isnt it guys?! Did you see how the process worked and was carried out?
Allow me to list the individual processes.
Step 1. Havoc gets in what to him is a very valuable perked 262.
Step 2. He flys around as careful as can be for a while just checking things out and feeling his way through the sortie as any good pilot should do
Step 3. Pays mind to whats around him and is careful, yes carful not to get in a predicament that will get him shot down.
Step 4. Although he is careful mistakes happen and he ends up being shot down!
Step 5. (the real kicker here) He understands that mistakes happen, a game is just a game and nothing to get vulgar and rude over.
That wasnt so difficult gang now was it?
Please excuse me if you think I am being a bit... hmmm i dont know umm a bit of a smarty pants...
But most of you are adults for gods sake. So act like it!
-
Well, to be fair, I *did* logoff, curl up into a fetal position, drink 3 quarts of Vodka and cry myself to sleep. LOL

At the time my 2 kids can play this game
They are probably spoiled already in wrong chosen words.
This game wouldn't make any significant difference.
Just watch some movies, video clips or look at the news.
U can say u don't want bad language i respect that.
But giving kids for the reason is just uterly crap.

All good points. Here is one you can use. Before you tell me what I need to do, try staing off the game until you can control your self. After all, you would not use that language in front of my kids if we were both present in the same room, would you?
I had to leave my squad because it was imposible to play the game when the kids were any where near the computer. I don;t want to quit the game though so now everything gets recorded.
PS. by you I don;t mean you specificaly, but the people that can't control treir language.

I want nobody around when i play.

It's just an unreasonable expectation that adults police themselves in an online environment.
No it's not. It's perfectly reasonable to expect people to remain civil and to police their mouths while playing a game with friends.
It's also what you agreed to when you signed your "Terms of Service" agreement with HTC.

Well said Skuzzy, unfortunantly I do not feel comfortable anymore letting my 7 or 10 year old daughters sit with me and watch me play. Because I know they are reading the buffer. Even though this game is for me, my girls like to watch daddy play sometimes. It is sad realy that some people have no respect for others.

You are missing the real problem here. Curse words (at least FCA approved ones) are not uncomman on TV and such and may not be a big deal sometimes. It is the vulgar talk and crude disgusting comments that are unacceptable!!
"screw your kids" is definantly unacceptable and shamefull. I dont care if my kids hear or read "dam or hell" but dont want them subjected to stuff like "blo me, F- you or dikhead" get it?????
Even mispelled worse stuff than that is on the buffer daily!!!FBRaptor

I'm glad to see Skuzzy's position on this and I hope there may be some form of relief being considered to keep this from being thrown at us constantly. Havoc's tirade was not an exception, it is becoming commonplace and relentless lately.
The foul language and political rants (right, left and center) by foam-dripping, rabid whackos being hurled at us daily are the only things that detract from this game.
I suppose there are only 3 solutions:
1. Don't do anything
2. Muzzle those who are unable to act like reasonable, civilized human beings
3. Eliminate their tools (Channel 1)
I do think the O'Club on this private BB is a catalyst. I believe it is an unnecessary part of this board and may contribute to the political rants and bad-natured name calling. I just can't see what Iraq and the U.S. election have to do with Aces High.

I kinda like channel 1, though it is damn distracting at times.:D
Glad I don't participate much, except for , or gk on rare occasions. And I tell ya, sometimes I drink when I play AH, and I want a peaceful environment. I'm a mean drunk. Not really.
Because I'm an adult, and I play to relax, and I don't like it either. Cussing and belittling are contagious. I would never be in a squad that cussed on a regular basis. I don't want to make a habit of it myself, and I'm 46 years old.
The thing with age is you develop a thick skin, and learn by necessity to tune things out to survive...even in everyday life.

well said les. i am usualy of the opinion that if you cant make someone see your point using intelligent words and sentences then your opinion is probably wrong anyway;)

No it's not. It's perfectly reasonable to expect people to remain civil and to police their mouths while playing a game with friends.
It's also what you agreed to when you signed your "Terms of Service" agreement with HTC.
and i dont mean to pick at things but how can you have your view and your name at the same time? :lol

I'll use Leslie's quote as an in to the discussion. I was nine years old when he was in diapers he's still and old fart.
One thing that is being overlooked by some of the "adults" in this discussion is one of the definitions of being an adult. That would be taking responsablity for ones own actions.
That is lost on ALL of those that take part in the crap that sometimes comes across channel one and more than a few in this thread. There is NO excuse for what comes across channel one
If you GOD FORBID die on a sortie in this game, the responsibility for that death is completely and totally your own.
Totally. I isn't anyone elses fault that you died...EVER
Now "if" you are an adult, taking responsibility for you OWN decisions, the thought of spreading crap on channel one or in private would be nonexistant.
If it does, then your maturity level isn't up to adult standards..
That's something you ought to address. Step the maturity level up a couple of notches.
As Leslie said, you get older you let stuff slide. But it sounds like a grade school playground sometimes on channel one.
If I was contributing to that crap, I'd be embarrassed to call myself and adult.
When I get pissed, and believe me I GET PISSED, I log and throw the headphones..
My lady thinks I'm a baby when that happens but she leaves me alone..
It wasn't the gangers fault I died, it wasn't the La7 dweebs fault, it was my fault for the decisions I made on that sortie..
So I sit on the sidelines on channel one and figure out the mental ages of those that spread the crap..
And hope I see some growth.

Unless you get a disco with two kills.:D
Then its time to cuss. LOL Bad thing about it is other people in the room can hear you. That's why I live alone.

n.
An activity providing entertainment or amusement; a pastime
If you are getting angry enough to cuss and swear this game is no longer a game. Buy making the effort to cuss and swear on Ch1 and vox instead of the privacy of your own home you are attempting to ruin the "game" for others.
OK you're upset cause something happened and your game play is no longer fun. If you feel the need to vent about it don't touch your keyboard! All you are doing is getting others worked up and ruining their fun too. This is the kind of behavior that 2 year olds display. "I'm not having fun so you can't have fun either! WAAAAA" so stop it already and grow up!

Originally on AOL Air Warrior, the WidowMaker squad was formed mostly by AOL Employees (we flew for free! Neener! Neener! Neener!) and it was in our best interests NOT to curse, or act overly inappropriate while flying. You might not lose your job for getting a TOS violation while playing an online game, but it sure did reflect bad on you. In general, we attempt to fly with honor, and would help out the newbies.
That tradition has stuck, and you will not see cursing, or tons of smack talking on Ch1 by this squad. Granted, an occasional outburst happens, but those are usually policed by our squad. If a WM calls you a f*g on ch1 (or whatever) rest assured they are being warned on squad channel. I've personally apologized to other players on behalf of a squaddie (or myself on occasion) because this IS a place where children play, and it makes the squad as a whole look bad. IMHO I want squaddies who do their talking in the air w/ their skill.
IF you wouldn't want to say it in a Kindergarden class, DON'T say it on ch1.
I use that as a rule o' thumb when talking while flying. I have three kids, and they love to watch me fly. The LAST thing I want, is for them to hear or read some idiot cursing up a storm.
What I find amusing, is that most the rants on ch1 re. can be blamed on the pilot who's going off. Most the time you hear someone mad, and cursing on ch1 or vox, it's their OWN fault. Don't get mad at the other player because YOU did something stupid. I get a kick out of it. 'specially from the Vet's.
If you kill me, in general you'll get a g/k while i'm on the way down. I usually have it typed b4 my plane has gone boom.

p.s. nopoop, i ended up deleting 1/3 of my post, as we were basically saying the same thing.

Here is me beating a dead horse.
Again, I started this thread to help folks with kids, not to start a flame war.
I understand that you should be free to let your kids watch or play the game. You should understand, though, that just like *all* multiplayer games, they will see bad language, bad sportsmanship, etc. In addition, they will see representations of violence and killing, which in my opinion are worse for children than cursing.
Also, inserting yourself into an existing argument on channel one and saying your kids are watching is not going to defuse the argument, it will only escalate it.
Thirdly, this situation was started by someone writing anti-America crap on the text buffer. As much as you feel cursing has no place in this game, I feel that race, politics, nationality, sexuality and gender discussions have NO place in it and I will not tolerate that.
I did apologize to the person I offended on channel one. That was between he and I. I can do nothing further to "un"offend innocent bystanders.
If I say anything in this game that offends you personally, tell me and I will stop. If I don't, then please take a screen shot and send it in.
If you say racist, sexist, political things that offend me. I will ask you to stop and if you don't I will screenshot you.

I am sorry I thought this was a game!
And games are suppossed to be fun right?
Well what fun is it with all the anger and swearing ?
None !!!!!!!!
I do not have kids but If I did there Is no way I would let them anywhere around my monitor when im playing this game.
Sorry but the BS on ch1 is just way over the top.

this entire thread is hilarious when you remember that a lot of the people using the language are kids themselves...and its probably better than what they hear on the playground anyway

Well Vort, it's not "Hilarious".
We as adults (and I will include yourself,as you generally comport yourself beyond your years), owe it to our kids / younger siblings to behave in an acceptable manner. Kids aren't naturally mean or malicious. These are traits that must be taught, and are often learned through our examples.
Is it really too much to expect that we can enjoy something, and not worry about the "content" of discussions happening in text or Vox?
Now, all that being said, I agree that what they hear on the playground can be pretty nasty. However, they didn't come up with these attitudes on their own.
As an adult, I am expected to carry myself in an adult manner.
If I was to carry out my life in the manner that some feel free to "in game", I would be a pretty unsuccesful and generally ill liked individual.
I believe that individuals who need to belittle, or mouth off ignorantly, are not worth my time.
We don't need to be exposed to this behavior, wether we are children OR Adults.
Cheers,
RTR

Ok here is the cure......... first offense= warning, 2nd=send the offending party's physical address to the person that is offended, and let things go from there. Maybe even charge the flight to the offender! I mean HT has the c.c. # or checking account......yeah this might all be illegal but what the hey. I know two wrongs dont make a right but three lefts do!:D
