God bless the Secret Service for their timely intervention (http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/West/04/27/artwork.investigated.ap/index.html)

Absolutely, imagine what unprecedented destruction he could have caused if he would have unleashed the enormous power of his anti-war drawing

This is clearly Bush's fault. Deth to Ameriika!

yep.. I think what you miss by not living here is that because of school shootings it has been made a requirement that all drawings and writings of this nature are reported. Secret service handles threats on the president. did they overreact? probly but they could get accused of undereacting if he ended up even knowing someone who made an assaination attempt.

Seriously. Good thing we ignored the harmless videotapes made by the Columbine students - CNN wouldnt have had anything to report that month.

Sure, just reflect on what kind of country you live in when everyone effectively has to be placed under stringent surveillance to warrant their and others' safety...
And at the same time many say that they utterly despise government interference but that teh Patriot Law doesn't offend them a bit. What an inconsistenties.

Is Grunny out sick today?

It's OK thud, some day you'll realise that the secret service responded to something that went through 3 layers of "evaluation" before they even heard about it. That's a teacher, an admin and a police force that decided it was prudent to turn this over to the secret service.
Damn those nosey government officials that responded to concerns and decided not to make an arrest.

Me thinks that the teacher, the admin and the police force haven't dared to endorse any responsibility...
-
gee thud... i'm not under stringent survailance... Bet if I threatened to kill the president I might get a little attention tho.
you don't live here and have probly never even visited... you really have no idea of what it is like here.

More government, F the parents. They can make the tax money to pay for this insanity.

If he had drawn a pic of the head of a classmate on a stick, I sure as **** would have wanted some authority to know about it.
-
The Columbine videos brought up were a valid point because in that case one could assume that the tragedy might have been prevented in case the videos would've been discovered.
To surface at the first place these would require some thorough preventive investigation. That is the choice you'd face with respect to that particular case.
As to the Bush-drawing, if a caricaturous drawing with his head on a stake, made by a high-school student warrants a secret service intervention...
Especially when both the teaching staff and police (why were they involved?) already are notified it is laughable that s-s resources are wasted on such an 'incident'.
-
You seem to have a serious comprehension problem thud.
The teacher thought it was a problem and took it to the admin that also thought it was a problem. The admin took it to the police who also thought it was a problem. The police contacted the secret service that seemed to conclude it wasn't a problem.
Where was the secret service "intervention" again? Nobody heard about it and decided to step in. The secret service was not monitoring high school art classes. Some teachers and police officers expressed enough concern to alert the secret service.

i do not agree.
they shouldnt be ignored
they should be lead by their family
They should be able to have a speach about their opinions and they should try to explain whats their point of view.
They should speak about their ideas with other and they should feel free to speak.
EDIT:
i remember very well when we used to study WW2 history, that almost whole class did agreee that german nation should be wiped out. We hated them a lot even after school. But time has passed and after few german friends, most of us realized how silly our ideas were. [ heya Ecke, Adri :D ]
Things appear to be so clear, when you are so young.

it will teach that little shyt a lesson thats for sure.

Post-columbine, this is simply how it works. If the teacher or admin does nothing about it, and something bad comes of it or someone gets offended, then they're diciplined/sued/fired - take your pick. The police getting the secret service involved seems like overkill on their part, but all I know about the situation is what I read in the article.

Oh no you don't TOB.
Skim Milk and SunnyD only in High School, remove the Dr. Pepper machines NOW! You'll need a permit and a Diabetic free card from now on or you can sue. If you don't, I WILL.
This is simply how it's going to work.

I'm confused. I'm going to go drink a dr pepper now.
