Title: GeoCaching the El Paso Mountains
Post by: Sandman on April 30, 2004, 07:34:29 PM: Spent the morning out in the El Paso Mountains geocaching with my wife.

A sheep herd was at the base of the El Paso cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=f80cf0a0-105f-424c-acc7-1a926c8e9969). It was a beautiful morning and the sound of their bleeting was kinda musical. They didn't quite know what to make of my truck.

This one was at the top of a jeep trail. Fun ride up to the Capt. Kidd's Jeep Cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=5bdc5d38-8864-4c10-8e83-52decdfc5432).

This last was just a quick pic while we were looking for the right trail to a third cache. On the way, we chanced upon a stray sheep some 2.5 miles away from the herd so we turned around and went back to tell the herders.

So what's the deal with the cache thing? Do you take whatever the guy put in that ammo box, and leave something of your own there? And does geocaching make you feel like a Pirate? :)

You take something from the cache and leave something, generally. More often than not, I'm interested in simply finding the cache. Frequently, I take nothing, leave nothing and just sign the log.

I'm on the hunt for a good spot to place a cache.

You travel out to somewhere, following directions given to you by someone else, leave something and then pick up something else.

Post by: deknuf on May 01, 2004, 08:08:29 PM: Cool, it just looked like you did, my apologies. Many areas around here have been ruined by mindless rednecks and metrosexuals in their Hummers. Some of the best trails have been closed due to them going off trail and ruining the environment

The pic is from the end of the trail so there's some vegetation around the "parking area". Not a lot of traffic at the top so there's not much evidence of wear.
