Hello...well, I want to say, first of all, that v1.05 ROCKS. I like almost everything new in this version!
But now, on the topic. I just have had a great fight against some rooks East from the Northern field of the center island (dont recall the number, sorry).
In it, I got in a P38's six, at less than 70 yards from him, while I had no cannon rounds left in my Fw190A5.
I then proceeded to unload more than 1000 rounds of 7.9mm trying to shoot him down, I am sure that more than 600 rounds hit square on the lightning before he died (the P38 is a so big target and with me stuck in his tail, and so near, no doubt I got a VERY high rate of hits (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)). I concentrated the fire on the engine gondolas, but when he died, he died from a broken stab.
And I wonder, is this accurate?. I mean, 600 rounds won't be an overkill?. I am sure that 20 or 30 rounds wont do significant damage, but even after I had shot 700 rounds I saw no noticeable effect. In fact I didnt see anything broken until the stabilizator broke off (and believe me I was so near I almost could see the bad guy's eyes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif))
I know they were labelled "peashooters" for a well known reason (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) but, hey! 600 rounds are A LOT of rounds!, and they were fired from VERY close range!
What do you think about this? (Sorry, no film (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) I wish I had it, it was an incredible fight)

I had a similar problem Luke. I was in a TBM and had Spitfire get directly behing me and below me. I aimed my bottem turret at him and proceded to unload all of my ammunition on him. As he never turned but flew straight the entire time I was able to put a constant stream of bullets in him as was evident by him lighting up like a christmas tree with flashes. Once i ran out of ammo in the bottom turret I switched to the top turret and dove so i could hit him with it. It took me half of the ammo from that gun to blow his wing off. I thought this was a little odd? It may be a new bug or something?

I remember in 1.04 that 7.92mm did work..
With funked, during H2H testings I just once opened fire on his spitfire from Ju88, targeted his prop spinner and what he lost, was engine and ... rear fuselage (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

During Winter War (November 1939 - March 1940) the finnish Fokker D.XXI pilots usually had to "park" behind a russian bomber and pepper the engines with several-second-bursts from their .303cal Brownings to get any damage done. I don't have the numbers here but I remember something like 200-300 rounds from point blank range per engine to get it to catch fire... I'm sure those engines were not that different in basic structure from the engines of the P38.
Later in the war when the russian planes had more armour the 7.9mm "rat guns" were considered practically useless. Are the P38 engines protected with armour plates?

Chasing a lone C47 in a SpitIX with .303s, I wanted to enjoy the kill because no cons were nearby. Concentrated on the right wing and I was firing from about D200 with high accuracy. It took 1200 rounds of 303s and no serious wing damage. Had to finish it off with cannons. I'd call them pretty much useless.

Ive noticed this with the 190a5 but then again i just flew a 4 kill ju88 sortie...
killed f4's a spit and a 190! they riddled me and i lost left aileron, flaps, elevator, but i sure as hell hit them a lot whilst rudder turning.i thought i got the damage the shooting deserved.I hit F4's wing at bend in gull wing with 1-2 second burst at 500-300 yrds and it broke off at that point i hit the spit as he attacked from 900 to 400 all on the engine and it burst into flames (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) other kills seemed correct also.
BUT and this is a big but, i have hit a c47 with 70rds (1-2 secs) of 20mm in 190a5 and it stayed up!.squad mate finished him and i got the kill but i hit all rounds on right wing root and fuselage with what seemed no effect..as i climbed away dumbstruck he was attacked and finished off.
have we gained in mgs only to have lost in 20mm? god i hope not.
also i hit a PT boat with all my 30mm in 190a8 and was told no damage??? im hopeing its lost packets/host but PT pilot said he heard lots of pings and i only fired 30mm.
see what you think try these guns out again...and please give 'honest' opinion (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Perhaps they think that 30mm HE does not do damage on wooden PT boat (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
-
dunno how porked PT damage is...
But I've died a dozen times to less than 4 pings from 303 hits on my PT...
Christ onna crutch, I even died to a TBM in 2 pings...

7.9mm has always been useless to me...
13mm is slightly better.. (takes approximately 2 secs firing to fry a con in a g10 using only 13mm.. and thats only if he's not paying attention (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) )
Ive also noticed its alot harder to hit with 30mm's now.
