I know I was at a fever pitch for the new game back in October, but with so much time passing, I seem to have lost interest and not kept up with the goings on at HTC.
Did they give a ballpark date as to when AHII will be completed?
I'm downloading all the updates, but I'm just uninspired because there is no one on to fight most of the time.
Thoughts?
-
I can't wait until we see new planes again. The biggest thing I'm looking forward to (besides new planes) in AH2 is being able to choose your plane's skin. A more complex damage model is a close second.
The graphics update will be nice, but nothing more than a small plus.
-
I agree with Tarmac, im not much of a beta tester, i mean i stop in to check out the new DM and skins etc sometimes. But i dont really keep track of all the info on it.
Once its out im sure itll be worth it, and once new planes start comin again, i think more people will come back with renewd interest.
-
I think you guys have spoken for me.
I check the boards, but it's hard to get excited about patches that fix bugs.
So what about the time frame?
-
neg no time yet, just the usual "2 weeks".
-
I'm from over the hill originally where they released a half baked WBIII that split the community in half and never recovered.
I'm REAL excited with AH2 and it's progress. I'm seeing framerates continually improve and features and planes being brought up to top shelf BEFORE it becomes a choice as to whether you can continue to play the game, upgrade, or pack it in.
It's not going live until it right.
I wouldn't have it anyother way.
AH1 is quite enough to hold me over until its "right" and goes live.
Muck ya bastage let's get down in the fur for some ya-ya's
:)

I check the HTC news every couple days hoping for some exciting news. It's a disappointment to see news like we just got today. It seems like the same old, fixed this, tweaked that, changed something else.
It seems there is still a LONG way to go before AHII will be released as full version 2.0 and then it will be even longer for the so called "Tour of Duty" aspect.
The things I want to see most still seem to be missing from AHII and like has been mentioned, there is nver anyone to play against in the beta.
My major complaint still is the P-51D flight model... it still won't stall or spin, even when you try real hard to make it. To me, that says the whole FM of AHII has flaws. If AHII doesn't make an FM that requires players to know something about E management and combat tactics, I will probably end up cancelling my account.

i am muck..the crash landing fm is kik assssssss
when ever you wan tot go battle in AH2 ..when u see me in AHMA..im down

I'm terribly excited for AH2. The new FM alone is more than enough for me. I'd like it to be out sooner rather than later, but i don't mind waiting untill it's ready.
-
Excited?
Like others have said, it's kinda hard to get excited about patches that merely fix minor bugs.
It would be a lot easier to get excited if we had a vague idea of what's coming, like for example in that thread the other day where people were whinging about the graphics looking the same as AH1......when HT dropped in and mentioned they'd got searchlights and other cool stuff that'll work with the new graphics engine. Now that perked me up a bit, ok........no screenshots, no official announcement, but HT letting slip something we didn't already know! Woo!
Shake dem pom poms!
ok stop now.
It would keep a lot of peoples interest up if HTC actually told us anything, anything at all. We've been waiting since early 2003 for a FAQ as well.

I'm excited!
Really am.
I've played most betas and had many good fights. Even though the FM is not final I feel that the FM is more organic than that of AH1. I find plenty of things that keeps me excited!
I'm easily amused.
-
I try to remain calm at all times or I might have an "accident".
Nopoop said it all for me.::D
-
WARNING The following is the view of a single pilot and does NOT reflect HTCS officail position.
Ht doesn't tell me anything he doesn't tell the rest of you guys. However, it seems they've been cranking out a LOT of those patch's recently.
I'm guessing but I'd say we are weeks, or month or two away not years.
I do know they are working hard on it, and its a HUGE project. Like nopoop pointed out a bad release can screw up everything.
It will come soon enough.
-
Its Getting close
Must have been a weak moment but that was seen in reply to a statement online in AH2 that it looks ready for prime time.
-
"AHII is around the corner..."
Skuzzy said this in the MA the other day. He then suddenly remembered to pull out his Politician Talk Manual and went on:
"I never said how big the corner is, jodgi..."
:D
I tend to remember the first line.
-
"The second age is upon us!"
-
Players can accelerate the development process for us by testing the patches we put out. The more people that test it, the easier it is for us to fix things for a wide variety of platforms.
Also, Midnight, if you feel there are bugs with a particular flight model, you need to post your findings in the AH2 Bug Reports forum with real proof and not speculation. If you have done this already, then disregard. ;)
-
You can't expect folks to be excited about something that is dragging along at the same time AH1 has stagnated beyond recent memory. Getting information is like pulling teeth which makes it all rather weak as far as setting expectations and player participation. I don't bother to download the new versions anymore since I don't get the impression that if I had a legitimate concern it would be addressed. Basically, it's a lame horse across the stable from another lame horse. I'd try something else if I knew of something else.
-
I'm afraid I am guilty of forgetting all about it till it comes out. It is a massive project for a minority interest ergo no big development budget. It HAS to be right when it does come out. SO if it takes years it takes years. I'm a long way from being bored of AH1 after 3 years of it.
Sorry I'm not testing the Beta. I don't really feel qualified.

I've always been a huge fan of Aces High but have to admit I'm flying less and less. No matter how good they are, most endeavors sooner or later start losing their appeal when the novelty is gone.
Because Aces High players naturally are intrigued by WWII hardware, Aces High never seems more vibrant than when it introduces new aircraft and vehicles, ideally a couple a month.
And that has not happened for a long time.
Aces High is so excellent as is I'll probably stay indefinitely even if nothing more is ever changed. But ... it's only human to have an insatiable appetite for more goodies.
-
new flight models those are the things that interest me most.
skins, icons and the other little improvements are something I enjoy trying out.
new graphics - this can be a exciting, but until I get a new vidcard, I won't be able to enjoy much of those. Graphics comes second to the FM and gameplay anyway.
If there were more people in the areana I'd fly there more (yes it's a circular argument).

Interesting, I'm just now getting excited about AHII. Now that all the planes are released in the Beta, I've been enjoying taking them up, even off-line.
It's true that I haven't seen more than 2 people in the Beta arena at any given time, but I have to wonder about that. I mean what can/should be done to get that arena populated, and who should be doing it?
We've got enough folks posting in here about how empty it is, perhaps we should start making an effort to get together (as the 13th TAS has) online to give the game a workout. At the very least, I'd nominate the Friday in between Squad Ops as a good night (although it's only once a month).
But, beyond the player vacuum in the beta arena, I'm not sure what all the negativity is. We have a fairly functional product which includes nearly all of the aircraft in the current inventory, the improvements in terrain functionality (if not graphics), the new fuel system, and the choice of skins with certain aircraft. There have been great strides in getting the ATI video problems resolved, and while bug fixes aren't fun, they are necessary.
Maybe it's because I didn't get too excited until all the planes were thrown in, and yes, I did think that devlopment would be faster than it is (But what do I know? I have no software development experience). I'm having fun with it. Although I haven't been much good at finding bugs.

I just ran a quick test on the pony's spin capabilities. From 8.5k alt, banked into a 30 degree right bank, nose up to hold altitude, throttle to zero. As the speed came down I put in more nose up to maintain altitude, used heavy rudder into the turn to keep the rate of turn up and used aileron to counteract the rudder to maintain my bank angle. She kicked over at about 103-105mph and entered a spin. I let it stabilize (about 4 turns) then recovered. Recovery was quick and easy.
FM is just fine for the pony :)
Cheers,

Because at the times we are on, there is hardly anybody in there..... I prefer the busy MA. If I'm going to fly in an emptyish arena, I'd rather beta-test AH2. :)
-
I am excited about it Muck !!! ... just wish more were.
The 13th TAS has been devoting at least the 1st hour of our squad night to flying in AH II and have been trying to get others to participate. Usually we get a decent showing. We even split countries, within the 13th, to try and balance numbers.
Why don't you see if you could garner some support with the MAW and do the same on one of your squad nights. Post when you are going to do it, and I will be there, and probably bring some more of the 13th with me.
All these procrastinator's that are "waiting" are gonna be in for a shock when HT throws the switch and AH I is put out to pasture.
He is going to due it eventually, and I believe, sooner than most expect. They will then be FORCED to fly AH II. At that point, for most, they will be whining that their computer can't handle it ... the FM stinks ... the DM stinks ... blah blah blah. Meanwhile, they now have the chance to test all this new stuff out, and voice their concern and/or findings before the "cement" has dried.
I think that EVERY major squad should try to get some squad night participation going on in AH II.

i don't seem to have any trouble both stalling ANd spinning a 51. As a matter of fact I just got done doing several "spin" tests in 51's and spits and I'm most impressed.
As Ht said try turning of stall limiter

We've been talking about it in the MAW too, Slappy.
I understand the gunnery, let alone the FM is quite different in AHII and we need to get used to it if we're going to be effective.
Tonight is a MAW squad night so I'll bring it up then.
BTW, I'll work more on reporting bugs, but I'm not very good at it.
Some exciting things I've found since the last post, including oil spills, Bent Props, etc...the damage is interesting...but why is it, when I am looking for the "Laser Ack" to nail me in AHII so I can see a hole in my wing, I could de-ack the whole damn field and never get a scratch....AH1...I'm dead in the first pass!!

Hey Muck AHII is awsome compared to AHI.
There are still some things that need to be worked out, stuttering and such, but it is still very playable. Some real good fights as well since the crowd is smaller and you don't have to fly forever to find a fight. (Thats on our sqd nights anyway. If you don't go over there with the intent that others are meeting you in there it's pretty baron)
It would be great if you guys brought everyone over there, I would definatly meet you guys out there for your sqd nights.
The new FM is much closer to realistic than AHI and the affects are great. I have been waiting weeks to see the blood and I finally got hit in the brain, it was awsome!!!!!
I can't wait for HTC to get the bugs worked out and for them to make the cut over. I wish more people flew in there in time I guess.
-
I'm looking forward to AHII. AND to TOD :)
Downloaded every patch and reported anything I see not right. Even began upgrading my system. Had to wait for the funds etc. but got a good machine for AHII now.
Fly from time to time in the AHII arena but very seldom anyone in it :(
-
I'm in no hurry, as I'm new to AH-I. (No good at it yet, but is fun and has a lot of potential). Just want HTC to do a good job on AH-II, and not rush it.
I have submitted a bug report or 2 for AH-II, but lack of experience in the AH-I baseline makes my input less valuable in some areas of the beta.

LOL, no offense. I always get a little kick out of things like this. Really no offense intended.
Has anyone complaining ever programmed, or built a game, or anything along that line? I get the feeling that the normal response is no. It's not a pisssing contest. It actually takes a LOT of time. It's not like some mystical magician walks into a room with concrete ideas and whips out a couple lines of code and it's all better now.
While you may stick to your idea it may take several roads to get there. There are so many ways to lay down code, almost infinite. You might end up with a whole page of code to make one execution from beginning to end. Yet when it's done and you step back you suddenly get struck that if you just put these few lines in it would eliminate the whole page and optimize the code. So while it's easy for some it's just not that cut and dry. There is a lot of experimentations and process of elimination to what works best.
With the quantity of things that need work, then to top it off with new additions, it's hard for me to imagine how someone would feel it's taking a long time. The only thing that tells me is impatience flourishes. Only because they must not know what all goes into it. Totally oblivious.
HTC must be complete workaholics to complete the work they are in such a short time. Do some here realize it takes some companies months for new updates yet HTC turns one out every few days or a week? That is incredible dedication, and a lot of work. You could be waiting months for a huge update, rather then seeing it evolve step at a time. IMO their approach to this is the best way.
The only silliness I see in all of this, and please don’t make me throw a string of cuss words in here,…………….. TURN ON THE MOTHER WRENCHING FLAPS COD DANGIT!!. What’s with this no 100% flap usage? You have a stall limiter, now turn on the cod dang flaps. That is in part where SOME immersion and true aspects of piloting is totally lost. Give the dang pilot control of the plane, all of it. IF flaps usage bothers some too bad, that’s a HUGE part of piloting, learn it.
Why say things if you have a good idea they wil change?
Thanks for your time, I now return you to your regularly scheduled program…

Anyway my bet is a Christmas release. That is realistic. Meantime have a nice summer and forget about it. Also think of the cash you're saving not needing that new kit for AH2/ HL2 :aok
-
Fogold is right I think. The only downside of it all is a lot of people upgraded video cards too soon (read too expensively).
-
My guess is sooner than Christmas, based on the frequency and content of the patches, but then, what do I know? LOL
-
Sadly, ÁH2 has already obsolete graphics (same league than AH1) and a full of bugs graphic engine, waitting so many months for that is a bit frustrating even knowing that it is still in bete stage. Now, my only excitement, if any, is about flight model changes.
-
Well I took a break from the betas back around 10. Logged on today and was amazed. Seeing Pyro in the arena on a Saturday morning has me thinking its sooner than later to going live. I'm exicted now. 2 weeks!
-
Are all the planes currently in AH I also in AH II? If so, what changes, if any, have been made in the F6F-5 flight model?

i agree 100% with you bozon except you forgot to mention the DM.
with all the respect i have to HTC, the current dammage moddel is completely arcadish, shooting planes and causing wings to fall apart from 600yards, cliping the entire rear fuselage of a B17, destoying tank turrets with bullets.
i hope AH2 will improve that

You will be extremly pleased with the F6-F ... I know I am. It feels more nimble in AH II.
