i have been playing guitar for a few years and love every minute of it.
anyone else play any kind of instrument?
-
Talk to Nuke, the guy is a very good guitar player and has a good singing voice too.
-
Yea come and check me out this summer, im coming to play in LA with Paco and Di Meola this summer.
Or maybe not..;)
However i play some guitar, nice little buddy especially on hangover days, it gets your mind off from the things you did last night..:) I play other peoples songs, especially unplugged picking stuff, for myself. I would like to grow nice fingernails to get clearer tunes out, but cannot because of my work and hobby, which destroys them effectively.

Been playing for 20+ years. Played metal for ever and a day, now play a lot of classic rock with some contemporary stuff mixed in:

Metal Drummer 15 Years
Have the hearing loss to prove it!
But have played
Blues, jazz, Reggae, and Ska
Lately I have been playing with a group of Lawyers for fun locally, they really are cool guys outside of work and considering thier proffession. I just refuse to play the SkYnArD standards, they get bent out of shape but ohh well..
The best paying gigs I have had have been Reggae and Ska by far.

Been playing guitar since high school. Haven't played in front of a crowd since college in '89.
Didn't someone on the BBS play in Mindy McCready's band?
-
Played metal on bass for almost 10 years then switched over to guitar back in 1990 and went from metal to jazz  that was an eye opener :D Still playing guitar but I haven't been in a band or played on stage since 1997.
Now I just have a little accustic with plastic strings. Not very good for playing lead but it's great for classical or jazz or blues.
-
Sorry, I'm on the classical side of things. I play the piano and the violin but mostly I'm a trained lyric Soprano specializing in sacred vocal music (masses, contatas, requiems, etc). I have been known to sing popular music on occasion though...but you have to get me tipsy first. :D
-
I'm a semi-pro trumpet player. I play in a couple of different local orchestras and concert bands, and a brass quintet.

LOL you liar you are a skin flute pro not a trumpet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
tons of players here.
you must've missed the threads.

I've been playing the piano for about 25 years. Mostly classical, with some jazz, blues and contemporary thrown in for good measure. I've never played in a band, and the only concerts I've given were because they were required by some teacher or another. I play purely for my enjoyment, and if some family/friends want to listen in, their enjoyment too.
-
Played guitar and sing (poorly) for just over 2 years. I am not bad and have played a few spots here and there. There is a guy that plays in Mindy McCready's band (she is purdy, but as I understand it likes rich hockey players) and he played with Dave Matthews as well. I wont mention the name unless he does.
I have a Martin Alternative X geetar...i like it.
-
I play bass guitar a little and I played bass, baritone, trombone and drums in "The World's Largest Non-Nuclear Coast Guard Band" as Sr. Chief King called it.

Been playing guitar for 23 years after starting early in high school. Studied with Gary Hoey and Brian Alex (Rahilly). I did stints in metal, progressive rock, and alternative bands plus a 2 year gig in an acoustic duo.

Played guitar since college, but not hardly at all in the last few years. I did play a mean version of Metallicas 'Battery' and Anthraxs 'Among the Living' though this week to demo a Ibanez I was selling. Worked too.
It was fun to play again. I'm going to use the cash to put down on a Jackson, something I've wanted for years.
-
Jackson's are sweet. I just got one last year. Complements my Charvel nicely. One is the opposite of the other. Black vs white. Right vs Left headstock. Right oriented vs left oriented shark fin inlays. I just might have to post a pick latter. They look awesome next to each other... :)
-
i play and own a:
Guitar,
Mandolin,
Banjo, and
Keyboard(Piano)
Mandolins are sweet

I've been playing drums for almost 20 years now. Right now I'm playing with two cover bands because they make money money money!
Back in the Mid to late 90's I played with a band out of Milwaukee called Bender. That was pretty much the peak of my musical carrer. The Band got signed to TVT Records but unfourtanitly for me, I parted ways with them before they went on to do any cool stuff. I played drums on their one any only TVT realease. Out of the 12 songs on that album I played on 10 and didnt get paid one red cent. I'm still pissed off about that, but I'm more mad at myself that I didnt stick it out for two more months. The band did flop bigtime but it still sucks that I missed out on the Queensrych, Nicklebank and Three Doors Down tours.
One of the songs I played on was on the 3000 MIles To Graceland (http://soundbyte.linuxjet.com/Angel%20Dust.mp3) soundtrack.
I guess the moral of the story is if you belive in something stick it out. Dont listen to what other people have to say, I did and Imissed out on a lot of cool stuff.
-
I play trombone in a Big Band and tuba in a Pops Orchestra - been playing about 20 years now. Also lay piano and alto/soprano sax every now and then. I have a trumpet that I keep around too.
Anyone into Jamie Aebersold? Great stuff for jazz chops

That's pretty damn good biz. Why'd you quit?
My brother-in-law plays the Madison/Milwaukee cover band scene as a drummer. Just bars and stuff though.

Woohoo another mando-geek! :)
I own 3 mandolins (a weber and 2 finished kit mandos), 2 more stewmac mando kits (soon to be built), 4 fiddles of various sorts, and a piano. The kids play the piano and I attempt to play the fiddle and mandolin.
The mando is definitely a fun little instrument!

I didnt really want to quit, real life was kicking me in the bellybutton at the time. I took a job that wouldnt let me practice or play gigs as much as they would of liked. I was in a jam, either choose the band or my job. It was a good job and I was afraid to quit so I stayed there.
A year and a half later I was laid off and I was pissed LOL.
What's the name of your Brother In Law's band???

I've played a couple of instruments (brass), but not for some time. However, I'm a pretty decent vocalist.

woah! banjo and bagpipes are both really hard I heard. And not at all alike.
-
Banjo and Classical Guitar have some similarities...
Both require picking with fingers, two and a thumb for the banjo, three and a thumb for the guitar untill you bring in the pinky for a flamenco strum...
Bagpipes however, I almost break a vein every time I play. Hope I don't have an aneurysm. (sp?)
I think I need to figure out how to play with less pressure. I'm in better shape than some other pipers I know, and they can play for an hour after I pass out.
-
I played the Baritone and trombone all thru school, then had to turn in the instruments, never touched it since. I also played the doubled-belled uphonium... LOL only 3 on the east coast. It's like a baritone horn but has 2 bells, and a fourth Valve. The fourth valve changes the baritone from Bass cleft to treble cleff. Once in treble cleff, it's sounds like a trumpet with bass. One hard instrument to play Jumping from harmony to melody in 2 different ranges, all on the same sheet paper.
