Yep, will they be added to the flag?
Lada, I'm from Croatia. :)

no
Before the 10 new member were added the EU had 15 member but only 12 star on the flag ;)

Isn't a Lada a crappy Eastern-Bloc econobox?--and if so, where's the Rice-burner after-market industry that should be there to transform it into a crappy hot-rod?
I'm calling shenanigans!

How insensitive and uninclusive. ;)
-
no it's not insensitive it's just that the Euro parliement member have trouble counting past 12 ...
Actually they use their finger and 2 pen to count, but adding 13 pen to help them would have been to costly :D
-
But I think its actually a serious concern down the road, espercially with the marginalization of power and influence I have heard some of the new entrants are facing. They may be in trhe club, but are they really considered equals?
And those stars on the flag, well they know they dont represent their nation and that could be a point of trouble and resentment at some point.
The US flag is nice this way as it manages to preserve the tradition of the 13 founding states in the red and white bars but gives each state, and thus each newly entering state its own regonition by a white star in the blue field.
Have there been any proposals or requests to add new stars as new member countries join?

Some are more equal than other country ...
For example a polish voter as more weight than a German one ...

Dunno ,but it's not supposed to be a nationnal flag so ...
It's more like in the US there is a flag for the country but each state got one .

I know no tradition nor regulation concerning EU flag

I've one proposition
(http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/33_1083745738_eus_flag_web.jpg)
But it look so uninspired ... ;)
In fact I would prefer a red flag with a gold star in the middle but I've heard there some country already using it ... :D

Grun, can you explain why "stupid Europeans" ??
BTW I don't want you to write down your political convinction, neither explain why you think EU is a crap; nor I want to debate with you if US is better (?) or other amenities.
I just want to know why , if someone is acting in a way you don't share, it must be "stupid" in your opinion.

HEY STRAFFO F*** you ! :D
I think they don't plan to change the flag, not untill the 10 new countries are ready to cover the cost of it themselves.

Hi Saint,
I took the Eurostar to Brussels a couple of weekends ago. Beautiful city (the Tin Tin exhibition is great).
lol! I thought the neighbourhoods around Waterloo train station (UK) were bad, but after going through some lovely countryside, all I could see from the train when we got to Brussels was vandalised buildings and the local sewage works!

its very relative Saw.
We expected to get some money from Eu
We have chance to get some.
Eu have big big chances to get them back by many ways, for example if we will brake some strict rule.
And you can be pretty sure that our mega total fatal pro american socialist goverment will do it. Last week minister of economic admited, that right now we already broke initial agreement. And next big step beside we will make in next few weeks.
I think there will be big big storm in money flow between Eu and new countries for at least 2 years.
Most of minister deparments here didnt even prepare material, whitch will tell people how to get some money from Eu....
dont worry saw, it wont be so hot.
migration ?
I think this is very overrated problem, since most of non educated, useless people dont even speak foreigner languages, they can not move in big numbers. And people whitch are educated are wellcome.
give it time and let see how people will deal with it

Hell yea thre's our Fuhrer telling you frenchies off again!!!! :lol

*cries in a corner*
Orel, well, if we start with the 8Bn € sent to each new country for the agricultural aid... there's a start, but if I were you, I wouldn't invest it in flags :)
Ravs,
Glad you liked Brussels, but I think like anywhere the surroundings of the railtracks are pretty ****. (I think Stringer is still affraid to come back, you should ask him about the Beer museum, much better than the TinTin one, or so we hope...)
-
Saw.
As your most famous export I demand that you put a picture of Tin Tin in your avatar!
Sadly did not have a chance to drink more than a couple of beers as my wife got food poisoning and we had to cut the trip short. Not Belgian cooking, I hasten to add, but the English breakfast on Eurostar!

Ravs,
you scared me a bit when I saw that food poisoning line, you had breakfast on the Eurostar? I remember paying 2€ for a mars bar... now I know it's expensive AND dangerous :)
Next time travel by plane, it's way cheaper (60 quids for a round trip) and it's much faster...
Let me know if you plan to come back, I'll gladly lay guide :)
About TinTin, it's no... Beer much more important ;)
-
This is the second time she's got food poisoning from Eurostar food.
I would really like to go back to Brussels to see, eat and drink more - I didn't even get the chance to eat any Moules Frites! I prefer the train because I'm nervous about flying in commercial planes.
I will definitely be in touch the next time I'm in Brussels and look forward to drinking some good beers with you - thanks for the offer Saw . Btw, same offer if you are ever in London. I shall introduce you to 'Bishops Finger'.
Ravs.
-
Rav - how much is a return to Brussels these days? I did it in 1998 but don't recall the price.
Hehe, I had intended to go to Paris, but the World Cup was on - hotels full etc...
-
Wife got the tickets as part of a birthday present and we travelled posh class, so no idea about the cost.
I think its about £250 in first and £100 in standard. If you havn't been to Brussels I'd really recommend it if you like beer, chocolate and good food.

u shouldn't be nervous about flying ravs, if terrorsts hijack ur plane and whack the pilots just gang up on em retake the plane< this is the hard part actually> then use your online WW II fighter pilot experience to bring the plane in safely to a hero's welcome. Just as long as you dont have any stress related flashbacks and try to "vulch" the field you'll be A-ok :rofl

lolol!
I just hope the controls have a button with a 'g' on it to lower the undercarriage. :)

LOLLOLL you won this one :D
yeah Lada is russian car manufacture
They were famous these days, but today they only sell some 4x4 here. They are cheap and realiable, but not much confort on board :)
edit.: Lada is name for girls in eastern europe as well.
-
Ravs, Beetle,
Just so you know... I'm not currently in Brussels, nor in Belgium. But if you let me know in time, I can go there during the week-end easily.
Should I be scared by that Bishop Finger thing? I lived in UK for about 3 years, and i don't recall anything like that. (But I DO miss horse radish and Marmite...)

Rgr that. :aok
Now, if you want to hear the latest cockamamey EU scheme, I have a good one for you.
In its blinkered quest to pretend that all 25 countries in the EU are all the same and have equivalent economies and market forces, the EU has just awarded £200 million to the fishing industries of the 10 nations who joined the EU last Saturday. Sounds OK, but there's just one small problem. Three of those countries are landlocked and do not have a coastline, and therefore have no fishing industry to speak of.
:rolleyes: <-- sometimes one is not enough
