Flew 1 fighter sortie last night and managed 7 assists. That has to be a personal best for me. Anyone else ever been bitten harder by the assist bug? Ouch!
-
What plane?
-Sik
-
D pony... but heck I'm not particular
-
I've had some craptastic vulches in a 109g2 (1x20mm) that probably got into the 7 assist range.
Frustrating as hell.
-
Steve should fly the 109f4 in the main..
Good luck keeping 4 cannon dweebery off your falling, flaming, tailess carcass that you just made 4 passes at to finally chop his tail off......
109 = assist master unless you sport gondolas or the 30.
1 vs 1 thats a whole another story with the 109.. :p
I broke down last tour and flew the butcher A8, It never felt so good to be bad...
Fight fire with fire..

Fly a P38 and aim for the skull;)
-
Had 5 in a 262 last tour :aok Now thats bad luck.
-
Vulching with a 109 is a no go here. Biggest waste of ammo in the game.
-
Ahh, I like flying the 202 just cause it's so much fun to fly. But getting kills? Better not have anyone else around, cause it takes a while for the 202 to finish 'em off. I've been in that assist range before with it.
-

I'll co-sign that! I had a 202 on my F4F's arse at about 250 out and he was hitting me all over. I got away with minor damage and managed to land my kills over a sector away.
:D
-
WTG Tarmac.
Geez, Howitzer.. it would be tough to get 5 assists in a 262 on purpose. LOL
-
Having a craptastic run of assists is somehow an accomplishment? Heh, you must be one of those "the glass is 1/32 full" guys. :)
-
lol steve. Not to be a 1ups-man, but i distinctly remember having a flight with 6 consecutive assists, for a total of 3 kills 8 assists, and it wasnt even vulching.

Yeah, with a 202, it can't just spray n pray. You gotta get em turning and pick nme to pieces on things like wingtips
-
Consider all those assists like a brave counting coup. Just showing you were there and coulda terminated them.
-
while im not to botherd with assists, there are some that really P*** me off... for instance today, i came up on a lonely P51B, while flying my Spit9 (IM SORRY! lol). I opened up at 200-300 with my cannons only, the right cannon hit the right wing, and the left cannon hit the tail. Both fell off, and the plane then blew up.....
Assist on goose something or other. I mean HOW THE F***?
-
The 51B flew with much honor, Lag-son. The Spit, well...........
At least you admitted you were in it.:D
Poor Goose probably survived a great fight only to fall to the spitflower.
-
Yeah fly with friggn slap.:D
-
Sounds like my luck last night Murdr!
As for the 1 upsmanship..don't sweat it.. that's what the thread is for. :)
-
p51b is a good assist plane.. normal for me if i get 2 kill i have 2 assists aswell

Oh yea. Ive done that several times. Most recently the other day.
It ouched even worse cause several of those assists are on specific pilts I want/ed to get kills on.
Personally I think you should get at least something in the way of points for assists.
One time I was in a tiffy and spotted 4 planes hot on the tail of another countrymen. I slid in behind em and they were so busy racing each other to get the kill on the one guy none checked their 6.
I came in and nailed all 4 one after another.
End result 1 kill and 3 assists
Landed, looked at score.
I was not pleased.
-
Nah, I've never gotten assists after blowing off a planes wing and having a LW come by and spray it as its tumbling to the ground - must just be you, Steve :p
Don't puff out your chest - just kidding :)
-
12 assists in a d11 jug ... I was a winging them and the horde was blowing them up for me :)
-
Hands-down, the assist meister are the 109s, w/o MK108, w/o gondies. It's a great useful plane for point defence, immediate air coverage and when there are multiple 109s around one really notices how much defending becomes easier.
But the damn frickin' armament usually means that the 109s will work their prettythang off to bring higher planes down to deck levels, where either the La-7s or Spits are waiting to finish the enemy off, depending on whether the target decides to turn or to run - whichever case, the 109 rarely gets to kill anything.
I think the highest assists I got was about 9 in a G-10.
-
Lethality of the lavochkin 3 cannon set compared to its 2 cannon set always seems more than the 50% extra implied by the No. of cannon............. but it could be just me certainly my assist rate shoots up when flying the La5FN compared to the La7........... particularly when shooting at heavy stuff.............
Yet the Yak 9U with only one such cannon and a 12.7 mg whilst having less rounds seems to produce a higher ratio of kills to assists when I fly it.
How many folk actually know their convergence setting each time they choose a ride?
-
I fly the FM2 and the yak... I probly have more assists than anyone short of a dedicated 202 user.

-
I had 9 assist flying the A6M2 then I ran out of bullets.:)
-
Tilt, what does convergence have to do with the Russian nose guns? No wing guns there, right?
-
contrary to somes belief, convergence affects nose mounted guns ( mainly cannons over machine guns) in the neighbor hodd of 50 to 75 , meaning if you set machine guns in the nose at 500 you would need to set the cannons 50 to 75 further out to hit at 500 with the machine guns, I have tested this theory with Yaks, La7's p38's so I would assume it would be the same for the FW's and 109's as well and al other nose/cowl mounted gunned planes.
The distance of convergence is not as substantial between 200 to 500 but over 500 it starts to grow. Most people that say convergence does not matter have prob gotten used to the way they aim and are not really looking at the distance counter at all, but are honed in on the sweet spot by the way the size of the target looks when they pull the trigger! :)
-
I think its some sort of server overload. Last night I hit a spit V at d400 and less 3 times with P47's 8 .50's. No damage....none. On the 4th, he blew up in flames. Happens to me all the time. I'm the assist king.
Funny though, when I went to the con a few years back things died like I do usually. ping pang BOOM!
-
Almost 2 weeks back I landed 8 assists in a B-model pony, very next mission I upped a 262 and landed 6 kills... I don't like to share. :D

Re Lavochkins I often wonder..............
If you set them very long then the shells should never be more than 400mm apart (in theory). If you set them very short then after the sweet spot they begin to diverge wider and wider.........
However many an AH la pilot will still fuss over a setting somewhere between 250 and 400.
My comment re convergence was a generic one unrelated to my observations re yaks and lavochkins
-
I know my convergence every time i get in a plane bcause i set them all to the same thing.;)

Hehe and his assist rates goes up when I'm around since I usually end up steal my squaddies kill
ack-ack
-
I usually get more assists in the 9t than the 9u due to the fact that it only take 1 hit from the 9t to bring a plane down, but some other person could put 50 rounds in and not damage them.
-
Flew a 202 a few times, it's an assist machine.
-
Suprised no one mentioned the KI 61.
Beautiful plane, love to fly it, might as well be firing Nerf balls at them for all the good it seems to do me.

I've landed 7 kills in said assist machine... its the pilot, more so than the plane. :D
