Almost as bad as being burned alive then having your dead bady beaten and hung from a bridge!

Not saying what these soldiers did was right but come on lets not forget that Americans have been treated far worse.

Remembering how Americans have been treated means nothing. We expect better of our people. They have violated our trust and deserve severe punishment.

Agreed Midnight and they did it at a very important time over there as well.

My point was that war will tend to bring out the best in some men and the worst in others.

As a twenty-year veteran, I too am appalled at this breach of the Laws of Armed Conflict and the Geneva Conventions.  In a addition to the perpatrators themselves, I believe severe consequences should befall their NCO's and officers over them.  The job we have to do in Iraq is hard enough (though I remain convinced, a necessary one) without playing into the enemies of freedoms' hands like this.  I can't imagine what they were thinking.  It is, however, not an uncommon story: Elite, professional soldiers make poor jailers.  On the otherhand, a conscripted army makes for even poorer ones.

The situation is certainly bad. Those who broke faith with the proper behaviours expected in conflict do need to be prosecuted.

On the other hand we are one of a VERY few nations who would even consider prosecuting our own offending parties. Certainly in the last century there was damn little action taken by other countries for the violations of their military.
